One Chance’ challenges the notion of video games as ‘fun’. This thing isn’t really fun – it’s emotional, absolutely, and compelling, but it isn’t going to make anyone smile. It makes a person think. The game plays (in this case, ‘reads’ might be a more apt word) like a parable, of sorts, and challenges the player to consider the implications of each choice they make – not only within the game, but in real life. It can break your heart and make you seriously consider some things about the choices you made in the game; when was the last time Halo asked you to do that?
