Witcher 2: Gop shrugs off “dumbing down” accusations

CD Projekt's Tomasz Gop has ridden to the defence of The Witcher 2 dispelling the notion it's been 'consolised' to appeal more broadly - that's rubbish.

Gamers can still switch between fast and heavy modes in combat and controllers are supported. The Witcher 2 releases exclusively on PC May 17th.

The story is too old to be commented.

Best news I've heard all day. Loved the original.

Well, stripped down in order to meet the performance specifications of the current generation consoles.

They mean what happened to Dragon Age II. Especially controls.

Christopher2800d ago

Yeah, which makes me curious since the game currently has no plans of going to a console, so no clue why they'd not build it for the PC from the ground up.

That's like saying Uncharted 3 has no intention of implementing PC controls.

***They mean what happened to Dragon Age II. Especially controls.***

Actually, PC controls are the exact same as DAO except for the removal of the isometric camera view. Even the graphics are improved from the first game on the PC. This is an unjust association with DA2 considering its biggest faults are the changes in gameplay that weren't made for the console but to expedite the development process.

Actually Witcher 2 is coming to consoles. They didn't announced the date just yet.

The game that they commented on coming to the consoles was not The Witcher 2, it was The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. They stopped work on that one to focus on The Witcher 2 and said they would update us on the project after they were done with The Witcher 2. It is speculated that they would be making a console port of The Witcher 2 instead of a whole new game, but there has been no official statement on the project since they put it on hold.

Just to note, the original news for the console game was set to release in fall 2009...

"Dumped down" or "consolised" means that you take a AAA product - Remove all the customization, reduce graphics and put in aim assist to make up for the lousy controller that Consoles uses.

Basically, you can take it as: Console players are bad, here is your kiddy version.

It's sad but true

Glad they are true to the PC comunity. At the same time im hoping this game wil make it's way over to consoles.
