Gears of War 3 on MLG Pro Circuit? Don’t Hold Your Breath

K.L. Smith: "Our team has definitely seen a recent surge in questions surrounding the upcoming Gears of War 3 title and the legitimacy of its competitive merits with Major League Gaming. “Is MLG Going to Pick Up Gears of War 3,” has probably been the most frequent question received from our fellow Gears of War players and will probably increase over the next few months. The barrage of questions are most certainly due to the combination of the Gears of War 3 PAX East gameplay coupled with the fact that the “open” beta is right around the corner (April 18th).

PLEASE NOTE: I want to stress that while I was voted by my peers to represent the MLG Gears of War Pro Players during my tenure as a Pro Gears Player, I do not represent the vast majority of opinions of the former Gear of War MLG Pro Players.

With that said, let me start answering some of these questions and explain my reasoning."

This was a good read, we need to see more articles like this on N4G.

I don't see why it would be. The multiplayer has always been EXTREMELY "meh" to me. I love the single player portion, though.

usually its the noobs or those that lack the skill to compete in gears multiplayer who prefer the campaign or horde modes.

to actually attain skill in gears you have to play more than 5 matches online... this was hard at first due to slow matchmaking and laggy connections but its fine now..

you should try it again and see how the multiplayer is far from "meh" and maybe on of the most strategic and skill necessary online games this generation

Yes, Gears has a steep learning curve. I remember playing Gears 1 a few months after it was released. Luckily I had some friends that were good a taught me how to play.

@bobrea
tl;dr-find a bro to teach you the ins and outs

Blaze, I just have to disagree with you. I havent played a lot of gears online, but I just didnt think it was very special. It's not a matter of me being a noob, I consider myself a pretty skilled gamer.

Gears of war is hands down the most competitive multiplayer game this generation. You have to actually play it to understand though.

@MSpence

It's not a matter of being good at the game, I just don't think it's that fun online

BlazeCP32457d ago

you can be a "skilled gamer" but that doesnt make you good at gears lol

fps like cod and halo or killzone obviously relate to some degree and if you are good at one then you wont have such a steep learning curve (in regards to controls in a fps)

But with gears, theres really not another game like it in terms of the third person genre and the type of movement that you can do in it (wallbouncing).

So im saying that you actually have to put in alot of work to become good at the game. Once you do most people then enjoy it.

Please god don't put COD on the pro circuit...

OT: great article...especially considering the fanboy reality check that's been taking place here on n4g the past two days
