CFD!'s Rob Rich finally went hands-on with the sequel to one of this generation's quirkier titles this past weekend at PAX East:
"Earth Defense Force 2017 has long been an under-appreciated gem. Well, more of a cult classic really. Which is to say it could never dream of hitting the numbers that most triple-A titles see, but that didn’t keep it from being a hell of a lot of fun. And for bargain-basement prices, no less.
"Now there’s a new EDF adventure looming on the horizon which goes by the name of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. Perhaps you’ve heard of it. In fact, you must have by now, as its name is in the title up there. Tangent aside, with this new game due out in a few months (July 5th) we figured it would be a good idea to take a little preemptive peek and see if it could hold a candle to 2017‘s over-the-top, B-grade, camp fun. Since D3Publisher was putting in an appearance at PAX East, it wasn’t too hard to manage. So we stopped by the doomed city of New Detroit and killed ourselves some alien scum. And lots and lots of over-sized creepy crawlies."
