It totally depends on the story, and how long a proper telling of the story takes. MP shouldn't come into consideration with this at all. The length of a game should be determined by the story, not the existence (or lack) of MP. Portal, for instance, was the exact right length. Yes, it was short, but it was as long as was needed without artificially padding it out.
