Matt Randisi writes, "As the Killzone series progressed further, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between Guerrilla Games’s Sony exclusive and our good friend Cliffy B’s Gears of War. The struggle against a formidable foe who are also locked in civil conflict, the Caucasian lead with the Hispanic sidekick, the broken circle and exaggerated polygonal aiming reticles on some guns, there are even exploding spiders in a couple of battlegrounds. Of course that is just a convenient observation; despite this Killzone 3 is in more ways than one its own game and the Sony fanboys can rejoice that their exclusive flagshipshooter continues to push forward. Guerrilla Games never broke any new grounds with the series, but excelled in handling their sci-fi product with the utmost care. After all, we haven’t stopped watching vampire movies or playing zombie games because the concepts have been done to death. It is difficult for any gaming franchise these days to be completely original; so there won’t be any faulting for that especially since Killzone 3 takes their derived story and basic gameplay engine and presents it in an exceptional manner that is still plenty fun." 8.0/10
