Now we're not going to say if that's a good thing or not, you can just all make up your own minds about whether it's positive or negative that for half the game's 40-hour challenge you'll just be sitting there watching story bits happening.
If its on X360 having 20 hours of cutscene is good! If its on PS3 and having 20 hours of Cutscene is bad!
What the heck are you talkin' bout TnS!?
Because games on the 360 are subject to less scrutiny than PS3 games, especially on a divisive issue such as cut-scene length. Some like a lot of cut-scenes, like myself, and others cry out that they "Want to play a game, not watch a movie!"
Is not about quantity of cut scenes, is about quality (mood and style)
but i doubt the video quality of the cut scenes will be amazing due to DVD 9's capacity
unless they are planning on using more than 1 DVD, which i think will probably be a good idea for the developers
If you Doubt you havn't seen anything about this game, not one god dam thing. Your ignorance about DVD9 and how space isn't an issue with this JRPG title is embarrassing even for me.
I like this game design and style, Im not doubting the story and game play part... im doubting the video quality, DvD 9 is about 7.95 GB
, average quality of video in DivX coding is around 7mb/min, and with 20 hours it will waste 8.4GB...
I really dont care if I need to switch disk or not, i want to have a good quality cut scenes...
Edit: I remember when I use to play FFVIII on PC... switching disk for every 25 hour is not bad (it also tells you is time to relax for abit in case your playing 25 hour straight), I dont get the huge point why people keep yelling about disk switching
It might not be videos, rather cut sences handled by the ingame engine. This will be nice to see how this plays out. And give us or at least me what its like having that amout of space to work with
i agree, who cares if you need to get up and change a disk every 25 hours? Not a big deal guys. I also agree is all about quality of the cut scenes, having to sit through 20 HOURS of cut scenes would be torture if they are crappy. Most voice acting in games is not up to par imo, its terrible most of the time. However, if they do put a lot of effort into it it could provide a pretty cool experience if you really get into the game. We'll see...
@ 1.6 ya i think in-game cut scenes will be nice since gameplay quality is already pretty good
The game is coming on 4 DVD9(9gigs each), thats about 36gb. So I would think there is a great deal of CG cutscenes too.
Having multiple DVDs on such a long game does not bother me one bit.
or wait until 360 comes out
with a 5 disc drive console
Wow the story better be good or else this game will be murdered by western reviwers
lol someone disagreed with me. So what is it??? You dont want this game to be good??? You want the story to suck in a game that apperantly relies on it?
Hmmm. Thats strange I was seeing it different. Sony fans love cutscenes but when games like Mass Effect take them to the next level the title gets bashed.
"Games on the 360 are subject to less scrutiny than PS3" because MSFT did not boast to the world that their cosnole was 5 X more powerful than PS3; with 360 launch games the PS3 would never touch in PS3's life time.
The scrutiny comes from the PS3 actually being less capable. No one said anything but a PS3 fanboy I don't see 360 fanboys in here saying OMG!!!, I see two envyous fanboys in here with malice driven posts.
I think most of Playstation bashing is from people that hate CGI/ingame cutscenes in general and from folks clowning on Sony trying to trick people in thinking gameplay will look like the CGI.
Xbox 360 5x more powerful than PS3?
Have you even glanced over the specs for any of these consoles? Yes, both the 360 and PS3 are very powerful, but the PS3 definitely overpowers the 360 in terms of specs.
No, I'm not hating on the 360. I'm just pointing out facts.
As for the game itself, it looks pretty sweet. 20 hours of cut scenes? That much cut scenes can only mean one thing: a very long game. And theres nothing I love more than a long RPG.
Wasn't talking to you I replied to a guy wondering why the PS3 gets extra scrutiny and I anwsered saying its because Ken K. boast fictional capabilities(Yes KEN. K boasted fantastic sh*t). These fictional capabilities hurt PS3 when reality set in and the PS3 maybe being punished for its lacklusterness in comparison.
PS3 on paper means sh*t!, its over all result is inferior due to bottle necking proccessing and Ram issues hell the most basic multi platform games don't match the 360 it takes months of extra dev time to get them running on par.
Wasn't knocking this game I think its good, this game's on 4 discs and pretty dam long.
If you re read the post you'll know I was talking about things MSFT didn't say but what Sony said to earn them extra scrutiny.
The less capable part you did understand right PS3 isn't as flexable and has poor tools to tap what many say is the same amount of horsepower as the 360(only half of PS3's memory can be used for games and you have the nerve to reply to me). lol
i watched on xbox live from tgs, i'd say it will be annoying as hell. take 2 steps, cutscene. another 5 steps, cutscene. plus it's turn-based. i'll pass.
Oklahoma sucks. There going to get destroyed by Texas. Getting beat by Colorado is unexceptable. OK sucks, and really thats all.
screwing with you. I'm an FSU fan, so I know what its like to loose.
2nd favorite. glad to see they finally let xavier lee play. at least when the o-line breaks down (& we know it will), he can do something with his feet & make a play. the coaches need to quit wasting talent. last couple of years they had 2 of the best RBs in the country & never ran the ball. texas is toast. their loss was much worse, & at home.
that is probably because sony fans tout Blu-ray as being needed right away.
When a sony game has 10 gigs of sound and 50 hours of video on a BD and it fails to make the grade like a game such as BioShock then it's like who gives a sh!t about BD? DVD9 still rules...
Remember it was said, AAA titles were not possible on DVD9 as well as calling it old-gen. eventually we will get there but for now Xbox 360 using DVD9 has killer titles.
That's why PS3 games touting "GiGs" in the headlines have not mean sh!t. When it is Xbox 360 game as this one with plenty of cut scene fotage it's like, oh, we didn't think this was possible, at least that's what bling fanboys will lead you to believe.
I'm an old-school RPG gamer and this is welcome, first day purchase. I love the FF franchise and I trust the Maker.
Who said you couldn't make a AAA on DVD? Stop talking crap.
I swear you guys just make outlandish sh*t up so you can agree with yourselves.
Hey BathyJ's right.
to know the kind of sh!t that was spewed way before the PS3 even came out kid. I've heard and read it all. I'm now immune thtat sh!t.
I'm not gonna go back and search but sh!t, you see/seen this stuff every day don't be blind.
Your welcomed to go look for it or excuse yourself from others if you'd like.
Come on, Stop playing stupid.
Next you'll be saying "Fanboys", what fanboys? I see none on this site...
20 hour of cutscenes this is going to be epic.
Although I totally understand that JRPGs are getting stale, Lost Odyssey is the very best of them. This is an epic JRPG and it will be a ton of fun.
hmm I will wait for reviews before buying this one
this game looks more appealing than blue dragon but for an American market 20 hrs of cut-scenes thats too much
game play also looks kinda slow
i just played through the first game of the trilogy and even me a big jrpg fan i was getting tired of the endless cutscenes and i still have part 2 and 3 to go through
*on topic* lost odyssey looks interesting but in a very traditional way, i haven't seen anything thing innovative yet, still plan on getting it though.
Mass effect looks boring. I cant judge Lost Odyssey because it really depends on the story that will interest me and make them boring (cut scenes) or not so it could go either way.
I thought this was an 360 game.Sounds more like a PS3 game with so many cut scenes. The japanese will love this one
even tho some of you buttmunchers are biased and catergorize every ps3 owner as an xbox hating propagandist, i think 20 hours of cutscenes is pretty flippin' sweet.
Nothing wrong with RPG's having lots of cutscenes, on the FF games I couldn't wait for the next bit of story telling. It'll be no different with this and FF13, I'll be waiting for my cutscenes.
You know why we don't put more than 4 hours of video on any layer on DVD? Because the quality sucks... Don't matter if this game is on 2 discs, it's not enough for game + 20h videos...
And the "PS3 many videos are bad" stuff is true. When most Xbots get convinced that MGS4 is exclusive, they just call SC better cause they don't have that much of cutscenes, so you play, don't watch a movie... But when is the "FF: Xbox Clone" game, it's ok then... Interesting...
Those other 20 hours better be full of awesome.
And they say Metal Gear Solid 2 was all movie and no game, yeah right look at this game.
ICK! Down with cut-scenes! What's the point of watching gorgeous cinematics then switching back to gameplay graphics? I mean, it's sort of a bait and switch ;) But seriously, I want gameplay and not movies.
the same engine used to run the game is producing the cutscenes in realtime. that's one of the advantages of a powerful gpu
That's (way) too much in my opinion. When I buy a game I want to play it, not watch it.
I don't know if you guys know this buy we as gamers don't buy games just because we want to watch cut scenes but we buy games to actually PLAY them.
20 hours? Are they f**cking serious? It doesn't make this game a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but c'mon. 20 hours? Don't get me wrong but I love cut scenes especially for the Final Fantasy series ... but 20 hours is just too much.
I somehow just find this hard to believe, then again maybe it is true, but between a developer releasing 2 games so close to eachother, and having a full 20 hours of cutscenes.... it just kinda makes me think they are including just some sort of dialogue sessions, that may not necessarily be text based or something. I dunno hard to tell without more details.
20hrs of cutscenes, hell no! thats exactly why I hate JRPG's like FF= too many cutscenes and this game is going to have waaaay too many, I wouldn't mind a few hrs or so of cutscenes (a lot of short to the point cutscenes) but fking 20hrs, nope just not my style especially when you throw in that turned based bs, my bad I dont want to sound like my taste is the only taste but I was slightly interested in this game until I heard this, but hey if you like that traditional jrpg stuff then it looks like you will love this game, but forgive me for thinking wtf?=
if the cutscenes are well made, i have no problem with that. take ffx for example. the cg cutscenes were AMAZING. so i had no problem watching them over and over again at the theater.
but yeah, as someone stated above, the other 20 hours better be kickass.. do you think they'll pull a xenosaga and put a savepoint in the middle of a cutscene? haha... i remember that happening to me, and i was like WTF?
In Japan, cutscrene sell. Unlike the game critics in the West, the 1st thing a Japanes game critic will judge is the cutscrene. If the cutscrene is not beautiful or long enough, the game will get a low score. I'm sure the cutscrene in FF XIII will be even longer.
20 hours is kind of heavy, but as long as it is dispersed evenly, it shouldn't be a problem. Better to have too much character development than none at all. This must be the reason for 4 discs though.
All the fighting my point was this games is on 4 discs. lol
Okay action time. Hell I skip the cut scenes in Gears or War, Halo3, or what ever game will allow me to. I hate cut scenes.
None of obviously have not seen the same cutscens I have Downloaded on on my 360 HDD. The game is mixed with CGI, ingame cutscenes and this title is on four DVD's the hating ass fanboys dissagreeing should leave. This game is huge around 40 gigs.
you know i like that guy in my opinion i think Hironobu is trying to make a statement 20 hours of HD movies on 360 hahaha i can do it.
you know 60 percent of that are real time in game graphics if it was all CGI it would take much more than 4 dual layer DVDs.
isn't this game a based on a comic book license in japan? I'm guessing that's why there's 20 hours of cut scenes. does this time count as gameplay? just thinking about the time it would take to finish this game makes me not want to play it.
Hopefully the cut scenes wont be as boring as Eternal Sonata's were...
We're going to forte castle... (pause)
I am going to forte castle too... (pause)
Ok lets go to forte castle together!
This is on 4 discs, right?
I don't know... That sounds like way too much. :/ 20 hours? I just hope this game will have better characters and story than Blue Dragon so the cutscenes will be watchable. If not... This will get torn apart in reviews.
Some of you might be confusing "FMVs" with "in game cinemas". 20hrs of cut scenes "done in real time" would put it right in line with what you'd expect out of a jRPG. Add to that the universal constant that is "leveling up" and you've got another 20-30hrs. And then world exploration, item hunting, character sub-plots, NPC/citizen dialog, and side quests all rake in the hours as well.
Yeah, all jRPGs gotta fit into this wierd formula. But hey, I'm not complaining! I'm actually looking forward to Hironobu's masterpiece.
Nothing special here because it's been done before with Xenosaga.
and final fantasy X, I fell asleep during both games.
Heavenly Sword anyone?
show me proof that heavenly sword has somewhere in the range of 20 hours of cut scenes and I'll go buy a faulty xbox.
a game actually beat xenosaga III in cutscene length??? lol wow
