That's right - at this very moment, you could own an Xbox 360 sporting the fabled 65nm CPU and GPU. It appears that Microsoft has soft launched the 65 nm edition of its console with the release of the Halo 3 Xbox 360.
Awesome news. I hope this fixes a lot of their problems, though. It'd be nice to go a year without one failing.
Dude, 45nm will be available for mass production in 2009 or so. They can't make it right now, the PS3 won't get it also.
65nm is a good way to go for the coming time.
Secret, your an idiot.
I know you think this whole automobile analogy thing is awesome, and so you also think you are awesome for coming up with it, but its not. And this is the second time today you've posted that stuff. You're just wasting your time. Nobody comes on to N4G, reads what someone says, and is like, "Oh wow, you're right. I need to get rid of my <insert system of your choice> and purchase <insert competing system of your choice>." And if you write enough of a comment to have to scroll, forget about it. No one has that long of an attention span.
Oh, and even if MGS4 is coming to the 360, they wouldn't all of a sudden make the graphics worse. What kind of logic is that? Don't be stupid. Think about all the extra work that would take. Stop paying your internet bill, please...
Now there's NO excuse gamers.
Get yer @sses owt there'n'jump in..............OBEY YOUR GAMING THIRST.
Yeah that would suck if new RROD videos start hitting Youtube
it will your gonna see fanboys over heating their 360's and saying how the 65 NM chips fail.
agreed. I can see Nasim at his house with a blowdryer in each hand heating it with everyhting he has.
does anyone know if the recent complaints were from owners of this sku?
But I still think the Elite is a better deal.
opportunity to tear down MS for others. Bickering never stops
I'd stick with the elite.
makes me laugh everytime.
just because it's quiter doesn't mean the 65nm it's in it.. and i don't know anyone that will open his 360 and void warranty just to check..
so i'll wait till they confirm that and then wait about a year b4 i buy one to see if the rrod are truly gone
yeah, you can't "confirm" it just cos it ran more quiet than his last system.
About bloody time. Let's hope this resolves those RRoD issues, or at least, curbs them significantly.
So, how do we identify them?
The Zephyr models actually say "zephyr" on the box. Will these say "Falcon," or at least, will they say so in the future?
They probably won't say so on the box, at least not right away. Otherwise ms would be stuck with all of the non-falcon units. Maybe retailers will label them and sell them seperately, like how amazon does with the hdmi premiums. That's the best bet for now I think. Either way if it cuts down on the rrod this is great news.
Due to it being a soft launch I doubt it. They probably want to keep it low profiled.
Thankfully they put the new chip in the ugliest model.
I appreciate the humor (and agree), but the Halo edition was logically the most recent one off the production line. Subsequent production runs of the other skus should have the new chipset (again, logically, but not definite-- it could be due to contracts with each manufacturing facility, etc.) gCM
If this means less RRsOD then I'm all for it. If anyone waiting was waiting for a truly reliable 360 this might be the one. Lets hope that MS takes action to replace the rest of the SKUs with 65nm. The only thing I don't understand is why they didn't do this earlier! WHY?!?
People who get it get their consoles fixed for free.
People who don't get it have no issues
People who don't want a 360 don't have to worry about it.
It's like getting mad at a car maker for a voletary recall.
It happens all the time and I believe you life is actually at risk driving a car. I just don't get why people use this to maim the 360. It shouldn't happen but atleast it's not somthing you have to worry about. I have never had it and I have had nothing but good experience with MS tech support( my cable co - blew my network adapter and it was replaced for free with a new wireless controller).
I'm not a fanboy but i think the RROD issue is on over kill.
Then i look at what ps3 fans have to use as ammunition and:
DVD based games
Paying for online
There isn't much to use, so perhaps that's why they attack it so much.
I have had no issues with my 360 (thankfully). But I can say that; although I can get it fixed for free, it is the simple fact that so many have had to get it fixed.
It's a pain to call up support, and arrange to have it sent out. Then you are completely without a system for x- amount of time.
I think it's more so the inconvenience of it all that the actual problem.
is that even thou it's "fixed" for free, you're gonna be without your console for a few weeks.. and it wouldn't be that bad if you got one that would last you till 2012 but ms sends refurbished that haven't been truly fixed going bad in about a month or so and then wait again for another month, this is annoying
and since you brought the car comparison, how would you like even thou it would get fixed for free, buy a new car that would keep braking down.. and you being without a car for a month or so?? not only that but what if you bought a NEW car and they sent you an used car. it's not fair dude
not all 360s have this problem and i'm not saying the 360 sucks.. it's a good system and like i said above, i might buy one later on.. but don't say the rrod are nothing bad, cause it is..
Some people defiantly take this RROD issue and make it seem worse than it is. However, I also believe that having a failure rate of 33% is just ridiculous (it's one of the highest if not THE highest failure rate of a major consumer electronic in some time.) It's bad enough that there would have been a mandatory recall, but MS decided to just fix them all for free. That was a good move, both in terms of customer relations and public image, but it costs them a sh1t-load of money. That is also the only thing that makes this failure rate not such a big deal. I can see both sides of the story, but I know that I won't buy one until they fix it for good. Some of my friends with 360s have had to send them in, and while it's not going to cost them anything, it is still a hassle (not getting to play it for 2-3 weeks) that the customer shouldn't have to deal with as often as some are.
To me you painted the perfect picture of why I wont buy a 360
a) faulty product (RROD and the fact they keep releasing it)
c) Natively supports only dvd
d) Cost (when factored in the HD and wifi card alone put the xbox at a higher bracket than the ps3)
Heres a few you missed
e) Pay for full online access yet have to suffer with lag issues...
h) No blue tooth support ever
i) No real backwards compatibility.
f) Too much emphasis on FPS
g) Not enough power/innovation for a real next gen experience.
So even if they do fix this RROD issue with the new chip it wont be enough for me or the millions of ps3 owners who just wont settle for second rate.
Also why smuggle the chips out without telling ppl in the first place are they really feeling so bad about not fixing it for the 'elite' version? We'll they should cause if you bought one or on your third warrantied xbox they owe you a fixed one by now. Same goes for anyone who bought one after they finally admitted to the problem....
Remember the bs they fed us b4 that? Nope M$ is so rotten its gotten right stupid with it. IMO all these big multi national cooperation are evil (and Ive worked for a couple) but at least most of them try to keep up a pretense of decency.
You know, America is not the whole World. Not all countries in the world have almighty Microsoft service. Mine included. No warranty here, or, even if I had it, God knows for how long would I have to wait for it to get repaired. Not to mention that I live in the middle of a forest and that it'd be a real pain in the a$$ to have it repaired.
Also, an important thing. I don't want warranties! I want a good product. Because I like to mod my consoles. I break the warranty the day I buy it. When I buy something, it's mine and I'll change it the way I want, I don't care about making a relationship with either MS or Sony.
That said, I've recently found out the easy way to repair RROD so that argument doesn't stand anymore, but then again, it would still be kinda stupid of me to buy X360 since there are no exclusives that I want to play (I have a very powerful PC since I'm a 3Dartist...and I'm sure MassEffect will come to PC, just like Gears)
Anyway, it's good to know a more reliable X360 is here. Maybe I buy one...one day...
Two free games and the Falcon chipset?! I'll be one happy camper next month.
It does make sense to get mad at the hardware issues because when people buy something they expect more than a 1/3 chance that it will die on them. I've got a 360 and it hasn't died on me, and I know I've got the long warranty and they'll fix it for free but i'd still be pissed off it rrod on me bc its simply a pain in the ass to get it replaced and when I spend a few hundred dollars on something I expect it to work.
As for the other complaints, I agree they're pretty stupid. I think 50 a year for xbl is a great deal with everything they give you, and 50 per year really insn't that much anyway. And the dvd based games holds no water because theres really no great difference in graphics between the two consoles to justify saying blu ray is really that much superior.
and it's brand new checked the serial and manufacture date. I runs super quite too. It runs just as quite as my wii. I'll still be getting a ps3 by Jan though.
And according to a forum post on Xbox.com (I got out my flashlight and followed their guide), I have the Falcon 65 nm. The best part is when you set down the Legendary Helmet next to the Halo 3 console, it looks pretty sweet. So I am glad that the console is that "fugly" color, as somebody put it, because I sure don't feel like taking the awesome Legendary edition and shoving it into a corner.
My friend got the new Halo, green 360. He says it runs very quiet and boots up faster, he thinks it runs cooler also. now he is selling his old 360 because its so much better. I belive him because he owns three 360's
halo 3? .. is it this 640p game from microsoft and bungie?
Of course. You'd think PS3 would ever be capable of delivering a AAA game of this magniture. The games you call on your POS3 console usually are rated in 70s - 80s. WE have a higher standard and our AAA titles are in 85s - 100s.
i'm thinking of waiting till the "Arcade" version comes out to replace my premium which freezes but hasn't RROD'd I don't play it enough. Tho I like the look of the Halo 3 version, but not sure its worth $120 more.
Maybe I'll get Halo3 and play it this weekend on the old one until it RROD's then I can send it back and hopefully get a new one back. If i can get it to RROD within 10 hours then it would be worth my time. If I have no probs whatsoever in those 10 hours then keep the premium, it it freezes but no RROD's in the 10 hours then will just replace it. If RRODs then will send it back to MS and hopefully get a new replacement and save some $$.
that's good news. I was beginning to wonder when we would start seeing the Falcon hardware. I can only imagine that newly manufactured models from here on out will have the new chipset, too. They've also replaced the original disc drives with a much quieter one, which is a welcome improvement.
How the hell else do you think they will sell that ugly piece of $hit.
dont believe it for a second though, a deliberate rumour???
^^ God dam fanboy why won't you leave you hate all things 360 yet your ass is in every thread talking sh*t.
You're giving Too Human a bad name with your avatar pic.
Edit: Below... here is the pic of my Avatar..
Hey POG, what's your avatar?
The CPU is 65nm
The GPU is still 90nm
Won't make much of a difference, the GPU was causing the heat problem. Until the GPU goes 65nm the RRoD is still gonna be a problem.
lol @ power of groan!
My nephews 360 was made before mine 3/2006 and is 50% less noisy than mine, mine was made 7/2006.Mines hella loud compared to his so that doesnt mean it has a new board because his doesnt.
Is partly correct He's probably wrong about MSFT not reinforcing connections but he is right about the chip. I post a thread on it a while back. People ignored it thinking I made a misstake when they were infact consfused about the chips or did not know both chips will be upgraded.
#24, Are you saying something again?.
to bad this version of the xbox is ugly as monkeys with blonde wigs to non halo fans .. it the elite had the upgraded chip i would bite.
ohh crap... right about now Sony fanboys are eating their nails... what are you going to do one RROD is forgotten and the new Core bundle arrives this fall?
Oh we have plenty of other weapons, don't worry. Just like you do on PS3.
Like...no built-in wi-fi, or no HDDVD-BD for games, expensive and overpriced online service or something like that ;)
Honestly? It's Microsoft... it's only a matter of time before another pile of sh*t hits the proverbial fan. They've never released a product that didn't take 4-8 years to fix properly, and I see no reason to think that the 360 will be any different. It's just how they do business. I'll just never understand why people put up with their crap.
MS - "Here's a big pile of crap, and no just any crap, untested and unfinished crap. Maybe we'll fix it at some point, right before we serve you some more unfinished crap. We don't know yet though, we're still deciding. You will take it, you will enjoy it, and you will come back for more because we said so... now... on your knees..."
Average Consumer - "*sigh* Again? Alright..."
NOTE: That was not aimed at the 360 specifically, but all facets of MS including Windows and Internet Explorer.
That was actually funny. Looks fine to me although its not for me. I did buy the Halo edition XBOX.
Now I will wait a couple weeks to see if any RROD stories have come up with the new 360's before I buy one. Yeah yeah, i can get a 360 now and get the warrenty extension if it rrod's but i just dont like dealing with customer service and tech support.
I'm still on the fence... I have 3 months before I make my decision on which console to buy, despite being a long time playstation owner ps1 ps2 psp. But right now the best tactic seems to stick with Sony until at least people stop reporting RRoD. Everyday I check this site though to find out what the latest is in the console war, and everyday my decision seems to be swayed. I guess we shall see.
man make the choice that's right for you. I personally own a wii which I barely touch (waiting on mario galaxy, and smash) I will get a ps3 for uncharted, and little big planet. But for right now I'm loving my 360. halo 3 and gears of war right now. mass effect, cod 4, assassins creed, conan, and puzzle quest on xbl all this year! All 3 consoles have something to offer. Make sure you make the choice for you though.
No man, don't buy X360. Buy a PS3!
It's too late for you to buy X360, It's alreday reached it's adulthood.
The real bauty of having a console is having it from her start! So you can follow her development from the very beginning and fully enjoy it. If you buy X360 now, it has way too many games available, and good ones, so you'll never be able to catch-up which will frustrate you the most. And not to mention that if you show up now at XBL, you'lll only be another n00b to pick on.
^^Disclaimer: The above is truly an artistic freedom, I'm in no way serious nor would I ever think I have the authority to tell people what should they buy and what not.
@secret - Your a moron, don't you have anything better to do than write that much on this site? No? Didn't think so. So, go on, troll around like a dumbasss some more.
Wanna see the new chip?
this won't save the 360
from the Wii...how soon we forget...
they kept it hush so the non gaming public wont know! If its true and it passes a stress test i will get mine by Feb08
Now there's NO excuse gamers.
Get yer @sses owt there'n'jump in..............OBEY YOUR GAMING THIRST.
Yes I purchased a halo Edition at walmart monday night to go with my copay of halo3,
and yes it runs quiet and smooth.
no bragging just the facts.
// but I justify my purchase because I couldn't wait to play Halo3 , and after buying the game I still stand by my decision.
once the 65 nm becomes identifiable in the premiums im gettin a 360
I bought a xbox360(no hdmi)with 0-5 rrod.
I then bought a xbox360 elite(with hdmi/no built in hddvd).
Now,I get to buy a xbox360 with a 65nm all smuggled inside!
Thank you M$! for the pleasure of spending so much money on you!Thank you
But, I did save a ton of money by switching to GEICO
The Falcon has landed!!!
The 65nm doesnt really matter. The solutions are already on the Xbox 360 -- regardless of what Sony Defence Force would have you believe, Microsoft has already shipped the solutions to the heat issue.
Every Xbox 360 with a HDMI port (probably even the Core, just without the HDMI header on the pins) has Motherboard Version 1.1. This Motherboard has fewer components, smaller components, new layout, and a new CPU/GPU mounting methodology.
Look at this: http://www.mainstageclothin...
Then read this:
"Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers."
(from http://www.microsoft.com/Pr... The Xbox 360 heat issues have already been fixed, and we already were told. And we've been seeing the improved hardware for months now.
Then, go read this:
I'm pretty sure the new Falcon is not supposed to have a 64nm GPU. Only the CPU. Is this false? Or a nice surprise?
I thought the new chips were suppose to lower the price of the console- I guess this will happen when the Halo hype dies down... I am still waiting for my 360 to be returned from Texas:(
I was pretty pissed off, but I can't wait to get it back from MS. I didn't even get to finish Halo 3. Oh well. My PS3 will probably still collect dust cause until it comes back I'll probably play PS2. And 360 back on full force once it arrives. My main point I guess is that I will trade the one I get back for Falcon when it's released. In all honesty, its a hassle going on without my 360.
Can u tell me if it was premium or core? My premium RROD within 3months of purchase in march 06. Later i bought core in may 06 and till date its running fine. Played session of 7 hours straight of cod3 and last night my bro and his son came over to my place and played coop H3 from 7pm till 12pm with hardly a break and finished the campaign. So i think the prob mite lie in the premium build.
