Saling The World: Just Dance 2 Tops Charts in Killzone 3's Debut Week

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from February 24th, 2011, find Just Dance 2 outselling the recently released Killzone 3 and Bulletstorm in North America, as Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity leads multiplatform sales in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows.

A casual gaming beating out a hardcore one? What else is new?

The Wii (casual) beating out all other hardcore systems (Xbox/PS3)? What else is new?

Hardcore games generally smash casual games in total sales numbers, minus a few anomalies.

Might be worth pointing out those numbers at least for the UK are hardly relevant. Killzone 3 was only released in the UK today (Friday February 25th) whereas Just Dance 2 has had the whole week to shift units.

Hardcore games sell more than casual games?

Have you ever heard of Wii Fit?

ravinash2463d ago

Notice how pre-orders are disregarded.
that would take big cut away from the the total sales and I'm not sure why they count them like that.
Hardcore player are more likely to pre-order a game to make sure they get it on release date.
Casual gamers are far more likely to come off the street and buy it then.
So I'm sure this reduces the number of sales recorded for KZ3, not so much for justdance2.

Just seems odd.

Dude, that's why I said; 'minus a few anomalies.' Those anomalies being games such as Wii Fit, Wii Party, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort... see the trend?

But then you look at games such as the Halo and Call of Duty franchises (as much as I cringe while calling Call of Duty hardcore) Metal Gear Solid, Gears of War, Gran Turismo, Forza, Grand Theft Auto and so many more all of which are aimed at the hardcore audience the numbers speak for themselves as well as the massive variation between each title. Hardcore Games generate more unique interest and higher total sales numbers in the long run.

Yep, the UK numbers aren't really relevant as Killzone3 is only just released today (Friday).

trounbyfire2463d ago

these are amazon numbers based on the top ten list on there site so its BS wait for npd and vgchartz to get a true sense of sales

I think you are also forgetting casual games like GTA,COD, etc.

maybe Nintendo should add some blood to Wii fit and fool casuals like you into thinking tis a hardcore game.

HEY people this is via amazon not NPD or even vgchartz.

in america kinect bundle game has been selling well. in to top 3 now its not in the top 5 with two new releases. halo reach is second... its not even close to being second unless selling like 23,000 gets you second. it might be second on amazon but not even close in actual sales 0_o

this shouldn't even be up. vgchartz has more credibly than this crap. seriously this is propaganda, KZ3 will sell well.
