Sony where’s the love for LAN gaming?

This generation has seen the shooter genre gain in sales dominance and popularity, and Sony’s first party studios have put out some of the most critically acclaimed shooter this generation. Games like; Resistance 1 & 2, Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2 & 3 . With the recent release of Killzone 3 it saddens me to see that Sony has left out a glaring omission from the games feature set, LAN play. They have done this with all of their first part shooters, which seems ludicrous.

FXGAMESKILLEEN2647d ago

Yea i forgot about warkawk it was awesome and the only first party sony game to have LAN play

Chaostar2647d ago (Edited 2647d ago )

Can't wait for Starhawk!

Don't both PS3 Gran Turismo games have LAN?

BattleAxe2647d ago

I've never ever used LAN for gaming. Seems like a useless feature to me.

It's piracy + not wanting to sideline PSN.

If you had LAN play, people would have found a way to host LAN networks over the net. Look at Garena and Hamachi.

That would have allowed people to bypass PSN entirely. People who mod would be able to get online play + free games.

Therefore, LAN play was de-emphasized.

Consoles are just forwarding the death of real and fun gaming, and just catering to the mainstream. I wish consoles never existed...

SilverSlug2647d ago

How is not having LAN, an extra feature, killing the mainstream.

SuicideShaun2646d ago

When you look at the big picture, no. But if you pay attention to the linear style over the games over the last 2-3 years. Failure is imminent.

NateCole2647d ago

Do people still play LAN?. It was fun back when you have time and space to set everything up as well as when the internet was slow. LAN was the only way to go.

Surprise if its still popular.

people still have lan parties here and there.

i was surprised that GT5 didnt have it considering that GT3 and GT4 had it via firewire.
