You don't have to play Angry Birds. Play console quality games on Xperia Play, says Sony Ericsson

While many well known mobile and games brands were mentioned at Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play launch, there was one that was notable in its absence - surprising as it's already available on Android.

What if I prefer playing games on my phone where I can have fun in short doses and get in and out really quick instead of console ports?

remanutd554819d ago (Edited 4819d ago )

then keep playing them , dont need to change your habits , do you ? i have a my touch 4G and i dont game on it , when i use it as gaming related is to give my psp GO online functionality but if the xperia play comes to Tmobile i will consider it , depends on all the functionalities and i might use it for gaming too but as of right now im happy with my phone , to each their own

Hey MarioWarfare, Nintendo 3DS has lots of console ports and remakes like Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and so many others but you never complained about them.

MarioWarfare4819d ago

I am not even buying a 3ds....

blumatt4818d ago

Well said!! Most people always say that all the PSP has is "watered-down PS3 games" but they fail to acknowledge that the 3DS is going to have the very same things. Both will have console ports, and BOTH will also have games built specifically for them. The thing is, if you're tired of playing the gazillionth Mario game, you might want to consider a PSP2.

All android games are available on Xperia Play, so what they're saying is that if you want more you can get more. But if you don't you can still play angry brids to your hearts content as well.

Rainstorm814819d ago

The funny thing about it is, the Xperia Play is android based, if you want you can play Angry Birds on it as well as "console quality games"

Vaud-Villian4818d ago

Isn't Angry Birds on their console now as well?

Stealth20k4819d ago (Edited 4819d ago )

course they have to hype this up to keep it relevent against the ngp from the main gaming branch at sony.

they are probably refering to the psx emulation

silvacrest4818d ago

compared to most android/IOS games SE is not far off i guess

Spinal4818d ago

LOL the NGP aint arriving til atleast the holidays an even then it might be Next year. lol the xperia play will do fine and its not competing with its Big Bro.

It will be competing with iPhone 5 an the rest of the phones coming out this year. The smartphone uers that like to play games on their phones will adopt this device. Just like i will.

silvacrest4818d ago

im just hoping the PS suite delivers, once it gets rolling and gets a few decent games the xperia play will be quite a gaming beast, add some idie games and games from the likes of EA and this could be something special

Spinal4818d ago

I want to see Metal gear solid and Tenchu arrive on the PS Suite and im happy for life. Oh and Final fantasy 7 cause i've never actually played through it an yet heard so much great things about that game.

I think the PSP was weird in itself. I mean the tech was cool and all with the UmD, but Sony often pushes its own media with their consoles and doesn't always find success. The memory stick duo was and is expensive as hell.

brettnll3145d ago

I agree. What a weird idea lol. Seems like they were mainly just trying to be unique.

parentsbasement3145d ago

I wouldn't call any of that "weird"....the book thing maybe...

brettnll3145d ago

It's not always the device that's the weird part. Could also be the timing (PSP Go) and the lack of marketing (PSTV). Makes you really wonder what was the point of following through with releasing these things. Xperia phone could have been something special, then Sony didn't fully support it. WHY!? lol. Just weird.

Wonderbook is weird, but that easy platinum though!

WitWolfy3145d ago

I cant get over this dudes comb over.

brettnll3144d ago

Comb over? Never heard that before lol =]

I used to own a psp..first 1000 then 2000 then 3000 then after that I had a psp go and then I finally got a ps vita brand new..then lost that and the later in the year or month got a new used version of the Vita...so the journey has been really out there for me for the systems I used to own..all of them were great in there own special way..

The Top 8 Android Phones of 2013 | The Hardcore Gamer’s Guide to Android Phones

Even as the power of mobile devices is outpacing Moore’s Law, and graphics power seems to double every year, it’s a sad fact that phones simply aren’t marketed toward gamers. Walk into a phone store and ask a rep about a phone’s CPU. If you’re lucky, they might tell you how many cores it has, but getting a real idea about a phone’s performance is going to require some independent research. Even then, not everything is equal. Chips grouped under the same family are sometimes radically different on the inside, and even a savvy shopper might be surprised to find his phone comes up short. We’re here to cut through the nonsense and give you some straight talk about which phones are best when games matter most.

For anyone using iOS, I suggest you try the stock android experience offered with the nexus 4. I used to prefer iOS but android has more customization and very recently competitive build quality.
