A look back at the top 10 years of video gaming.
#1 was no surprise at all. Though I am quite surprised 2010 didn't make it to the list considering the number of great games that were released such as RDR, ME2, Reach, SMG2, GoW3, DKC Returns, SSFIV, Monster Hunter PSP/Wii, Metal Gear PSP, Pokemon HGSS, Pokemon BW etc.
Your list is to subjective especially this part: "SMG2, DKC Returns, SSFIV, Monster Hunter PSP/Wii, Pokemon HGSS, Pokemon BW etc." Those games are great but none of those are "mind blowing" and "history changing" games like the author mentioned.
It's funny how you singled out the Wii and DS games along with a classic franchise(you know I'm talking abt Street Fighter unless you're retarded), and gladly omitted the other games from my list just to argue with Dark Charizard. I've noticed you do this quite often and I wonder - is your life that terrible? And don't think for a second that I forgot your comment - "Ryu(or Ken), Samus Aran, Simon(or Richter) Belmont Are you kidding? I had to google them before I realized who they are." rotfl. Son, you're not even 13, concentrate a bit more on your studies will you? Because as far as games are concerned, you know nothing. EDIT - And don't even think for a second that I'm going to come back here to read your immature reply.. you're now on my IGNORE list.
"And don't even think for a second that I'm going to come back here to read your immature reply" Like you have any more bubbles to waste on trolling? What did the new pokemon and monster hunter bring to be memorable in gaming history? Nothing, they just keep existing because Nitendo and Capcom are milking them. Not to mention you didn't even read the article fully: Part about 2010: "Honestly? It was a good year for games, but it was far from mind blowing." The only person immature here is you. I just made a quick search through your comment history and I was amazed that such a bitter and lonely person can exist. And what's up with speaking about your self in 3rd person?
"ME2, Reach, SMG2, GoW3, DKC Returns, SSFIV, Monster Hunter PSP/Wii, Metal Gear PSP, Pokemon HGSS, Pokemon BW" The problem is, there are just WAY too many formulaic sequels in your list. As much as I can enjoy a good true-to-formula sequel, I want to see some innovation for once. Motion-gaming is being used as pseudo-innovation to replace gameplay-innovation, and to attract audiences who look for the new fad and snake-oil weight loss program. Where's our next big game-changing, gameplay innovation?
2010 wasn't as great as 2007,2008 or 2009 imo. I think gamers are going to be overwhelmed at how many awesome games came out by the end of 2011. As long as most of the games actually come out this year, 2011 will go down as one of the best if not the very best year in gaming history.
1998 was great because of Thief too. =/
They also forgot to mention Baldur's Gate for 1998.
I remember when games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Orange Box were coming out, and I remember thinking "Damn, this is going to go down as one of the greatest years in gaming history"
Surprised the article didn't pay homage to 1984. Had it not been for that year, video games may not have existed as they do today. Nintendo (and to an extent, Sega) almost single handedly revived console gaming following the Crash of '83.
1999 was a huge year for gaming, it was the first time I actually thought a new generation of gaming and games was worthy of the buzz, Dreamcast blew everything away when I first saw it. So many amazing years really though. Hard to pick and choose.
wow i honestly expected 2008 on this list: Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA4, Fallout 3, Smash Bros. Brawl, Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Dead Space, Bioshock, Far Cry 2, Fable 2, LittleBigPLanet, Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, COD: World at War and Left 4 Dead. I expect 2008 to be top 3 if not THE best.
was this written by a kid?
1998, best gaming year ever. Half-Life MGS Orcarina of Time
