IGN: The Pokemon TV Retrospective

And that's really the Pokemon TV series in a nutshell -- it's a cartoon that set out to adapt a successful video game, then became so successful itself that it settled into a strict formula of doing things and now seems afraid to make anything more than minor changes to its own status quo. It can be frustrating, for longtime fans who'd love to see something more drastic happen in the long-running series.

Or it could just be comforting, as Ash and Pikachu are admittedly reliable and trustworthy characters who are always going to keep pursuing their original dream. And what dream is that? Well, you've read this far, so here you go:

I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was! To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause! I will travel across the land, searching far and wide. Teach Pokemon to understand the power that's inside!

Pokemon! (Gotta catch 'em all!)

It's you and me! I know it's my destiny!

Pokemon!

Oh, you're my best friend, in a world we must...

The story is too old to be commented.

College and pot has messed up my once vivid childhood memories of Pokemon.

Now all I remember is the closeted homosexual with the purple hair and that cat.

Aarix2378d ago

Yea really...pokemon completely influenced my childhood. It was an amazing show.

Probably because of all the bleach fans these days. Seriously, that anime sucks.

But pokemon stopped being good after the 3rd set came in and brockand misty left. Then they recast the voices andit just seemed like a joke after that, The first 2seasons fo pokemon will always bee good though.

RedDead2382d ago (Edited 2382d ago )

1st season was best. I sorta stopped watching after I realised it was going to repeat itself again.

"Why U leave strong pokemon behind!?"

Come on, he left his strong ones behind, and no matter how much training and more powerful Pikachu got, it still got whipped by newb pokemon. Except that one time it beat a Dragonite...

Also, I find those old cartoons to be low quality and to childish for me to watch anymore anyway. Low quality because there simply is no plot. It's literally, go out on an adventure there is no end too.

Edit--- """America never got to see that one, either, which was especially confusing later on since Ash caught a bunch of Pokemon in that same episode -- so, to our audiences, it's like he just magically acquired them from nowhere between shows. """"

Hahaha, sucks for viewers

I'm glad I was watching anime way before Pokemon

GunofthePatriots2381d ago

I remember when i knew all 150 pokemon....the good ol' days!

Hozi892381d ago

Yeah...it was only recently that I discovered there are over 400 pokemons now. lol.

Quagmire2381d ago (Edited 2381d ago )

actually, sir its...over 600...

"WHAT, ITS OVER 9000!"

no, god no! Just 649.

ONTOPIC: but in my mind, there are ONLY 151 pokemon, the rest are genetic mutations and failed scientific experiments.

VenomProject2381d ago

How in the bloody hell did I go from watching Pokemon to watching Hellsing and Samurai Champloo?...

Aarix2378d ago
