Guild Wars 2 to Have Public Beta

Arenanet updated their FAQ on their site and has given us a nice little tidbit of information:

“We will be conducting small closed alpha and beta tests in 2011. The feedback from these tests will determine when we will do public beta tests and ship the game. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it”

I cannot wait. One of my longest anticipated games in development.

SuperStrokey11232744d ago

me too, i remember the guild wars 1 beta and how much the game changed from then to the released game, and how much it changed as well.

Great game. Hope this one will be too

Omega Archetype2744d ago

Absolutely! I've been anticipating it since 2008! I remember them saying there'd be a beta during that year but nothing came about.

In any case, I would love to know what we got to do to get into the closed beta. I think being a longtime Guild Wars player would do it.

Heck I've put nearly 1300 hours into that game haha. I'd love to so the same for Guild Wars 2!

Darkfiber2744d ago

Yeah, this is probably my most anticipated game ever. Poor console kids will never know what they are missing...

Chris3992744d ago

That aside, I don't care which platforms it comes out on. My most anticipated game EVER.

Masterchef20072744d ago

I really do hope it comes to the PS3 would be perfect cause PSN is free an all

Downgraded MMO is not cool.

SuperStrokey11232744d ago

im pretty sure that was canceled

Motion2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Lol, I don't know who's disagreeing with you. Its a simple fact that downgrading an MMO wouldn't be cool. I wonder why some people disagree with that?

Hmm. Seems some people do like downgraded games. To the disagrees- anyone care to shed some light on why they think its good to downgrade a MMO?

Baka-akaB2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

maybe because he is implying the game would be downgraded on consoles ?

1 . Gw2 will most likely run fine on small configs while still very pretty , like gw1 did in its time

2. Gw1 had a skills system and gameplay that didnt involve dealing with skills and spells bars taking half the screen . You choose a combination of 8 skills and rolled with it .

And it's gameplay was fast paced while clever

360/ps3 pads got enough buttons to deal with it .

I dont even get why people felt the need to bring that console bs either way .

Gohadouken2744d ago

Was gw1 downgraded on low end-mid range pcs ? No then here you go

radphil2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Actually GW2 works a bit differently than GW1.
From the gameplay aspect, GW1 could work on consoles, in the same way that how DCU does. Now GW2, the way how they incorporate the spells inputs would need to have a work around.

One example would be is if you looked at the Elementalist videos around on youtube, you see that you have to select where you want to use an aoe spell, but at the same you see them moving around.

But yea, they specifically stated that GW2 will still be able to run with the same type of PCs that ran GW1.

Baka-akaB2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Sure but we have yet to see anything truly problematic for a port .

If it's not playable , then fine it wont be , i'm waiting for that baby on pc either way .

But some folks on n4g have a "please dont ruin my game with your consoles" attitude even without reasons to freak or worry .

I have been waiting to get more info, screen, or video for this game. I can't just seat still.
My most anticipated PC Game.

Dee_Cazo2744d ago they have 5 of the professions revealed of 8 and all have 4-5 skill videos.

It looks amazing and I cant wait to play it at PAX next month.

Shani2744d ago

Yes, I watched it all.
But I am not satisfied yet.

And PAX East is still 1 month away.

Masterchef20072744d ago

I would love to try the beta out. I loved the first one but i doubt the ability of my laptop to run the 2nd one well.

Dee_Cazo2744d ago

I have an alienware m15x from 2008 and I am terrified about running it myself.

Although it works great most of the time Dell are a bunch of dickheads so if something breaks I am screwed.

I've been looking for an ASUS for 1000 or less but their site doesnt give prices or places to buy them?

Great business strategy.

Omega Archetype2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

This should run it pretty good I think! Sager/Clevo are excellent PCs and this one is a mid-ranged laptop with good specs!

If I remember correctly the game should be able to run on most older PCs. I think I remember reading that that was a goal AreaNet were going for. Want it as accessible as possible I think.

EDIT: I did forget to mention that the new Intel Core i series MOBOs are on recall until late Feburary - Mid March (for a minor problem that won't even affect many,) so you won't be able to get a PC with those types of CPUs/MOBOs until then.

Motion2744d ago

If you're looking for ASUS lappy's, probably just go to

Pillage052744d ago

I use to run GW off a laptop with an integrated graphics card. Expect the game to be extremely scalable.

Darkfiber2744d ago

This game is going to be able to run well on a wide range of PCs, I wouldn't worry too much. They said they are aiming for 6+ year old machines. They even said in the PAX demos last year that the game was running on max settings on mid-range machines. They don't want only high end machines to be able to max out settings.

The reason that it looks so intimidating is simply because of the art style. They've managed to make the art look so good that graphically, it tricks you into thinking the game is running on some amazing tech, when really it isn't. If you look closely at things like the ground and long grass coming out of it, and even very closely at the character models, you can see that the graphics aren't nearly as high end as the art style makes you believe. They use an amazing art style so they don't HAVE to make the graphics extremely high end.
