Gamersmint: 5 years ago, people would have laughed at you if you said that Apple will be a dominant force in the handheld gaming market. In a landscape dominated by Nintendo and Sony, Apple simply stood no chance.
Apple is a great company (iPhone, iPod, iPad) - but not for game industry ,. not for games this goes also for sony , they are a great company , but for gaming better leave it to nintendo
lmao, says the guy named Samus HD, too bad youll never see Samus in HD
@ Samus HD Sony should stay out of gaming you think??? I have had it up to here with the new version of Mario cart, Mario Universe, Donkey Kong etc. Nintendo have been serving up the same dried up old piece's of you know what for years now... Nuf said I think.
totally wrong, everything you said...
Sony, not great for gaming? Stop being a fanboy, your missing out on some great exclusives. I agree with the ipod not for gaming part though.
no, unless "hardcore" gamers like games like angry birds or Canabalt, then yes
1 dollar for a gimmic of the original SSf4 no thanks........causal gayming is not for me.... @Samus HD: Cause in the wii you get a better gaming experience isnt?.....who needs Red Dead, mass efecct, halor reach, COD BO, Battlefield, Uncharted, Infamous, Alan Wake.....when we have the amazin wii?...... @SpLinT: Perfect answer!
Who needs to know how to spell.....when we have the amazin wii?......
It sure as hell seems like it, its pretty easy to lure in casual gamers. But still as Carmack said 3ds and PSP2 will be the last dedicated handhelds and i believe that as well. It would require pretty interesting business decisions to beat apple like making it accessible and cheaper for casual people and keeping a firm hold on the core gamers as well.
This POS article needs to STFU like the rest of the doom and gloom of handhelds.
What jose said...
No. Once again it's a different market for gaming. Just like variety of games you have a variety of gaming types. ex.) Console (PS3/Xbox 360/Wii) Computer (PC/Mac) Mobile (Apple OS/Android) Portable (PSP/DS/3DS/PSP2) Motion Control (Move/Kinect/Wii Remote & Nunchuck) Digital (PSN/XBL/Steam) Free 2 Play (Web Browser games.) etc.
Nope, If anything Apple helped the portable handheld market.
that's right. I know a lot of people who never played a game until they got an iPhone. Guess what, some months later they baught a DS...
Playstationsuite would never have been created if it wasnt for the apple store. Just think about it for a sec on the NGP with playstationsuite you can play games ranging from the type that apple offers to fully fledged console titles.
Apple only killed nintendo's handheld, because nintendo focus on games which are very similar to Apple, but to compare apple games to sony? LMAO! now that's way too funny. not only for the graphics but also for the dual sticks and hardcore games. not kiddy and only touch games that last not more than 3mins.
the portable game space is diffrent than home consoles. with portable gaming your competing against boredom. if a game makes you not be bored when waiting somewhere then it did its job, a 1$ app entertains you as much as a 45$ ds game.
Surely that would depend on the amount of time someone is "waiting somewhere" ? For me waiting for a train then angry birds is fine for 5 minutes, but for me waiting on a 4 hour flight or waiting for my mrs to finish watching 2 hours of shit on TV then im gonna want something with a lot more depth than a $1 game.
Exactly, I can buy 15 games for my iPhone/iPad that will entertain me more than one DS or PSP game. And I only have to carry one device around with me.
speak for yourself Chris. Although I'm assuming you are just generalizing. I do see your point though, but some people want serious games to play when they get bored. I believe sony's Playstation suite has the cheap touchscreen game thing covered and offers a host of other features for hardcore gamers and casuals alike. Like buttons, analogs, and motion controls. Hopefully in the future we will see our favorite portable gaming devices functioning as phones and not our phones functioning as our favorite portable gaming devices. (both would be ok though)
You have a picture of Haze next to your name, kind of brings into question what you'd know about hardcore gaming lol! On a 12 hour flight to our holiday destination last year I flicked between watching films, writing tunes on ielectribe, reading Stephen Frys new book and playing games ... all on an iPad, there's no better companion for that kind of journey. If I'm playing serious games I'm at home in front of a large tv screen not a portable gaming device.
Samsung Galaxy Tab wants a discussion with you.
In my opinion i think that the android os is better than the IOS cause of the flexibility that it provides. But in the end i think that for games a dedicated gamming portable is better than either a smartphone or a PDA device (or in your case a giant one). I think that if your gamming needs are extremely basic than the Iphone is more than enough. However if you want to play console like games your going to need buttons and that means a dedicated gamming handheld.
@Masterchef : my gaming needs are far beyond basic, I've just bought a Gamepod and Fanatec GT2 to play Forza and GT5, a handheld just doesn't compare to a proper console. And when you're talking about portable gaming, until they make a PSP or DS that actually fits in my pocket then they're not portable enough to replace my iPhone. I believe PSPs and DS's are a great present for parents to give young kids to keep them quiet without having to share televisions with them .
I generally do my serious gaming on a big TV myself, but there's nothing wrong with having options when your entertaining yourself on the go and different people have different preferences. I personally would probably go for a laptop & ngp for work and play on the go, but if an iPad is sufficient, then it's all good. No, I don't own HaZe
And they still dont stand any chance in terms of gaming theres not anything in any genre that isnt better on the ds/psp And the ds/psp are number 1 in every region selling more units than any apple product, or console look at the iphone version of street fighter 4 and then look at the 3ds version. The iphone version and basically everything they put up there is shovelware.
Great argument until you compare the price, iPhone streetfighter 59p ... 3DS approx £40. Who the he'll wants to spend £40 on a portable game?!
I know a shit ton of people playing games on ipod touch, iphone and android phones. Lot of people don't wanna carry handhelds with them to play games but they take their phone everywhere cause it's necessary so that's an advantage for apple.
Nope, just the beginning of the media jumping the shark at "anything" remotely resembling a game platform.
