Halo 3 reviews beat Bioshock

Just in case you missed the explosion of Halo 3 reviews over the weekend, Bungie's shooter is doing pretty well at review stage around the world. The game scoring an average of 9.7 on stat crunching website Metacritic. You can almost hear the champagne corks popping at Bungie HQ.

It wasn't long ago that 2K's Bioshock rocked the world of review scores, coming out with nothing lower than high 9s if not straight 10s.

Surprise - Halo 3 is doing the same. Is it a surprise though - wasn't it always going to score really high? CVG are more surprised that some haven't gone out there and said it's an 8 because it's 'more of the same'.

Bioshock is a beautiful thing. Its wonderfully crafted and its graphics and feel are awesome.

Its story on the other hand, not so great.

And its lack of multiplayer, a grave sin.

I've played it. I beat it. I am far more impressed by Halo 3.

Loses it after killing Ryan and for me a couple of hours past the start - can't maintain the thrill of the opening parts.

Bio is definitely worth a playthrough but it's completely overrated.

I had no desire to go through again.

Main difference between Halo getting good scores and BioShock getting good scores is that most reviewers giving Halo high marks were paid by Microsoft. That's just how it works.

I can afford one. I'm old enough to have a job. I don't spend my free time concerning myself with arguing over which console is better, like you seem to be so passionate about with the Xbox 360.

My point was that big name games often get good scores because the publishers have deep pockets, and there will be outrage if the publication goes against the masses. It's a known fact that publications are paid off to give good scores to certain games in exchange for advertising revenue. I don't need to give you proof. JFGI.

Arguing that Halo is awesome because it sells a lot is like saying that Britney Spears is the greatest singer of all time because her albums always go platinum.

Listen kids, every industry has a "pay-off, bribe, or incentive" scheme. It's called marketing dollars and if you bothered to read anything about Microsoft's past history (dealing with ahem...Netscape) and how they threatened PC manufacturers with product/incentive embargoes, you would know it is "regular" tactic that Microsoft uses to "motivate" good reviews. While Bioshock and Halo 3 maybe first person shooters, they are both on different sides of the fps scale.

I thoroughly enjoyed Bioshock, and the stuff i've seen of Halo 3 (which is the earlier on beta and a walkthrough of pretty much the first level at X07) looks really good also.

Remember, all in all, video games are rated by people like you and me. We are all different and have different tastes. Rate it yourself.

It is that this type of news is fake, lame, and spam gets through all the time. I could compare barbie dream house to halo 3, and it won't get through, but comparing it to bioshock gets through with flying colors, without even one report. It doesn't make any sense why this is true.

this is all publicity...everybody with a brain knows these games that are getting 10's like hotcakes dont deserve it...IMO a 9-9.5 clearly describes an awesome game...no game is perfect specially Halo 3, reviewers say negative stuff like short campaign,graphics that seem a year old etc etc and still rate the game a 10??!! WTF??...the reviews these days are like those movie reviews that you see 3 thumbs up..4 stars etc etc and when you what the movie is a piece of crap...reviews are more of a hype machine that anything else...IMO the gaming community should come out with an objective method(mathematical formula taking in consideration all factors)for reviewing games another method can be a general survey with a set of questions that every game gets evaluated with...and lets not fool ourselves, Microsoft is one of the most powerful companies out there and they like to monopolize everything and in the business world not everybody use the cleanest tactics to win...i'm not saying Microsoft is paying to get good reviews but im not denying the possibility either mainly becauSE it seems every media source in America is trying to bash Sony, you dont see them putting Nintendo down which its actually their hardest competition right now...
Bottom line is Bioshock was a great game with it flaws and so is Halo 3 but all this barrage of perfect scores it all publicity and hype...reviews are losing credibility every single day that goes bye

Sites and magazines hand out this rating like it means nothing any more. I believe a perfect score should mean the game / experience is perfect and we all know there is no such thing as perfection. Halo 3 and Bioshock are superb games but neither are perfect and the sites and mags that gave them that rating should be dismissed / ignored when weighing reviews / ratings in the future.

IGN, Gamespot, Game Informer are usually pretty critical and give a decent review / opinion when reviewing a game. They gave both games near perfect / superb ratings and that is what they are, SUPERB.

i remember when an 8.5 game was an awesome game and 9.0 was near perfect, now it seems that every cool game get 9's...for example skate which scored 8.9 i think...common the game is cool but not that good how are we, the consumer, suppose to decide what is good and what its great these days is every games seems to get high scores..for example Bioshock got nasty reviews but you play it once or twice and thats it, Halo 3 on the other hand you get the excellent multiplayer that gives the game a great replay value...if i had to score both i give 8 to Bioshock stating that it is an awesome experience and a 9 to Halo because it may be an inferior single player experience but a more complete one because of the endless multiplayer hours of fun...or another option should be rate single player and multiplayer separately...

I Agree. A 10 is Perfection. Games with flaws should never get a 10 and definitely not games that aren't all that "original." I would venture to say that Bioshock is more original than Halo3 and it shouldn't have gotten 10s either.

Just like there are no perfect movies or cd's. Nonetheless, these types of entertainment get perfetct scores all of the time and you don't hear music fans wine "but it's not perfect". If all other forms of entertainment can get perfect scores, why can't games. In fact, game reviewers tend to be harder on games than any other form of entertainment. No it's not perfect, but it is better than 99.9 percent of other games. That means it's a 10.

I love "intelligent" comments such as this. You refuse to believe the reviews so you make up something to explain it. If Microsoft somehow managed to buy off dozens of reviewers and bloggers for Halo 3, why didn't they buy off the reviewers for all the other games they released? Reviews are opinions, and you know that old saying about opinions - they're like @$$holes, everyone has one. Some people will think Halo 3 is a masterpiece, probably myself included. Others will think it's mediocre, some terrible. Some will prefer Halo, others Bioshock.

When it comes to reviews, pick one or two sources that you trust and tend to agree with. I like gamespot.com. They gave Halo 3 a 9.5, right below Oblivion and G.O.W.'s 9.6. They only gave Bioshock a 9.0 though which I think is too harsh. Gamerankings.com is good too since it takes the average of many reviews. It's the video games version of rottentomatoes.com.

I think all these halo reviews must be practacle jokes because anyone with half(or more) of a brain can see that this game in no way measures up to Bioshock or other games its passing Resident Evil 4, Gears Of War, Oblivion or many more. Then we've got the halo fan boys praising it before it has been released proving bungee CAN FEED U CRAP AND ULL BE MORE THEN SATISFIED. How does a game with a short single player boring storyline. Last gen(at best) graphics an unoriginal online(infested with 10 year olds) average a 9.7 score.
