Call of Duty: Black Ops Unable to Change Guitar Hero's Fate ~ The Sony Geniuses

Due to recent dismal performance, Activision Blizzard announced Wednesday that it would discontinue its “Guitar Hero” business unit, and cancel a new title in the series it had planned for release later this year. Even with Activision’s “Call of Duty: Black Ops” outselling every other game in 2010, the fact that yearly revenues from “Guitar hero” decreased from $1.8 billion in 2008 to $300 million last year has sealed the fate of the series. According to video game industry tracking group, NPD, this follows in a trend of decreasing popularity amongst “casual games.”
