Despite huge interest in the franchise, Activision doesn't expect this year's Call of Duty game to be as successful as Call of Duty: Black Ops, the publisher's Chief Financial Officer Thomas Tippl has revealed.
who would have thought Activision would wise up so fast.Dropped GH and TC and now this.
I think these guys are just trying to sound modest. Activision said the exact same thing about Black Ops, now look what happened.
The reason I believe Activision's COD is going to die is because: 1. 4 hour long campaigns. 2. Same multiplayer gameplay. 3. Buggiest releases ever 4. They have too much control over players (they can ban you, reset your rank, restrict you from certain things) 5. Lack of support on other platforms otehr than Xbox 360. 6. Better games which developers actually put time and effort to, are coming out soon. 7. Bobby Kotick
Eventually, people will get tired of the same sh!tty game year after year. CoD is the last big moneymaker for Activision.
I feel like Battlefield 3 may succeed where Medal of Honor failed. I can only hope this, at least.
Any gamer that has been paying attention should know that DICE is coming to take the crown this year with battlefield 3. That along with Gears 3, Uncharted 3, and Mass Effect 3 means that CoD will suffer some this year.
The only way I'll buy this game is if they continue the storyline from MW2 where it left off with Captain Price and Soap, I want to know what happens, but if its anything other then that, then I'll be spending all my time on Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3.
Isn't those the only reasons people are still buying cod? (except #7)
Who cares what Activision says???
I have lower expectations too :) Hopefully most of you guys do too and will not rush out and buy it.
They say they won't now. But after the first trailer of shouting, guns, explosions, and some random rap song. They will all be online pre-ordering. Just like with MW2 and BO. Moral: CoD fans are stupid and will never learn. Activision knows this. Don't believe me? Scroll down and look at all the people who will still buy CoD games. Knowing that they have sucked in the past.
Wow.. they say this yet they're still releasing it this year.. take a year out and make it BETTER, common sense
COD is dying out I mean it did sale a lot but the majority of ppl preffer IW when it comes to COD. Plus I believe that they will be switching their focus to bungies new game which I believe will be some things similar to COD
I disagree. I think with Tre/IW the past 2 COD games have been buggy as hell. So people prefer a new dev. and maybe some time off from the series to get it right.
They milking cod too much now that's why. Plus it's the same game every year nothing new. They should release a new Cod every 2-3 so players can get there Money worth. Stop charging $15 for dumb over price map packs that should either be cheaper or come with game from day 1. Also take extra time to make it less buggy and make the damn game equal for ps3 n xbox. Another thing is time for a new engine Now it's 2011. All I know that this year I'm skipping cod why killzone 3 and battlefield 3 which I think it's a better investment.
its because they didnt make much on this game many still not bought it. if they didnt do price hike changed the engine to a better one, paid for servers deadicated. and respected the gamers activision would be much better company. instead its all about the money. was better company when was UK based.
Did bobby kotick actually get a brain? i guess thats what he did with our money.
There's far too many awesome games coming out in 2011 for a real gamer to care about COD.
I second that...
i agree but there were far better games last year too ...
@Pandamobile I like to hear your version of a "real gamer"
Someone who plays more than just COD every year.
@meNoRasta... i'm sure a real gamer on this site is someone who only is a Sony fanboy, and only plays games on their PS3.
I hope not. I play SNES, genesis, NES, PC, PS3. most of my time I spend my gaming days on PC. Because love the moding community.
@Pandamobile lol you seem popular with all those agrees with a silly definition of a real gamer. A gamer in my eyes is someone who plays games despite what console you play on.
Someone who plays more than just COD every year on whatever platform (since someone is desperate enough as usual , to shift the debate on console wars) .
Midnight, do you really have to start bringing PS3 fanboys into a convo about what a real gamer is? But I only have to ask you one question: U MAD??
Yes, I got Black Ops last year because there wasn't really much else (felt like waiting for ACB) but this year... there is TOO MUCH to get! That's without consoles too (tempted to get a 3DS, definitely getting NGP).
yes!!! BF3 wins!! or call of duty will break another record becuz it says call of duty on the box!
"Now having said all of that, I think we have a blockbuster retail release lined up for the fall that we are extremely excited about, which will be hopefully again the biggest game of the year" Biggest game of the year...I'm sorry but with Uncharted 3 AND Elder Scrolls Skyrim, possibly AC3/ME3 theres not a chance that COD can be the biggest game of the year. If my friends buy the next COD instead of the top quiality games coming out that month, then I can official call them morons. I hope Uncharted 3 multiplayer takes COD down. I doubt it but it could happen
Call of duty will be the biggest game on next year. If you read the article they predicted lower sales with BO. They are just planning ahead for the financial year, its better to underestimate and get more than over estimate and get less. MW3 will be huge, lets hope BF3 will be just as big :). What can be better for gammers than more AAA games.
Reason to fight about it LOL..... oh that was a rhetorical guestion. I hope that COD flops for the purpose of teaching the industry that they cant get away with being lazy. Kill it and let them morn, lifes better with alittle grief.
What about the millions of people playing and hiving fun? Why ruin it for them jsut becuase you don't like a game, it makes no sense whatsoever. Leave people who enjoy the game to play it. Last time I checked people didnt go around throwing kids Nintendo DS's into the bin becuase they dont like "Nintendogs" This "I hate COD" crap has gone on for far too long. Lifes too short to worry about games you don't like. Its comepletly pointless and a waste of your time. If your that worried about the way the game industry is going, become a game developer yourself and create your own game. Or do what 99.99999999% of people do and play the games they like and thats it. Not crying on forums for years (yes people have been crying over COD for years now) over a game. Success in the game industry is good for all gamers in the long term.
@ retrofly I see what your saying as far as "let them play what they like".... trust me I am no activist LOL. I have been a gaming addict since I got my hands on intelevision and atari. Because I have been around for a majority of the growth in the gaming community... I feel the industry has become more commercialized and far less inovative. It is now about fleecing the thoughtless and standardless. Look at the top five names in gaming, are they not all guilty of manipulating standards. most beaten dogs will return to his master for food. Well.... I feel like bitting, can you blame me? The least they can do is upgrade the COD gaming engine and networking.
Even though i hope COD is on the downward slope(for the betterment of game innovation and the series)...i just have this bad feeling in my balls, that we'll see another freakin' year of COD breaking sale records! =*(
Call of Duty does not stand a chance with the games coming out this year
The COD game being released this fall is being made by the makers of Dead Space 1. Sledgehammer is handling the single player campaign while Infinity Ward will bw handling the multi-player. I suspect that this COD will have the best single player campaign yet. The whole project is being built with the COD MW2 ( Id ) game engine so you can expect great visuals, genre leading 60 fps and of course alot of great multi-player action...at least on 360...lol...sorry, I couldn't help myself. Wait for the live demo at E3, no doubt at the start of M$ press conference...then we'll see what Sledgehammer has been up to. BTW...COD IS the game to beat this November. With Gears, Battlefield 3, Rage all releasing in the same 2/3 month period...it will a battle royal. E3 will be the first look at all of them...damn, I cant wait.
"The COD game being released this fall is being made by the makers of Dead Space 1. Sledgehammer is handling the single player campaign while Infinity Ward will bw handling the multi-player. I suspect that this COD will have the best single player campaign yet." DS1 is horror third person. IW already was split heavily after MW2....
I swear there has to be a bot on this site that just randomly disagree with people or something. :p
"so you can expect great visuals" Sorry i couldnt stop laughing there . "genre leading 60 fps" If they couldnt pull that of with a now outdated engine originating from tweaking Q3 engine , and without much building and terrains destruction , then damn ... Sure cod will be the game impossible to beat , but let's not pretend it's some caviar . More like the always successful slice of spam .
The way you describeb the MW engine is funny. It was impressive back in MW1 but it's getting old and reusing it doesn't help much to improve the game if all there is are just Michael Bay explosion effect.
I heard all COD games were going to use Treyarch's engine ([email protected] BLOPS) from now on? Is this wrong? I hope so, MW2 engine was much better.
Treyarch's engine?? That doesnt even exist yet . it's the same cod/q3 engine tweaked over and over . It's been the same engine since Call of Duty 2, and it's not proprietary to Infinity Ward, actually I believe Treyarch made use of it first
At some point after COD4, Tryarch developed their own engine for [email protected] It was based on the COD4 engine but is essentially theirs, although i belive it does share some technology. So now we have 2 engines, IW's COD4 & Trey's [email protected] When it came to MW2 they didn't use any of [email protected]'s engine, they just developed COD4's. For Blackops Tryarch used [email protected] as the base engine and developed from there. New technology and bits and pices may have been shared but they predomanently use their own enegine. I'm guessing becuase the devs are more experianced with their own enegines. There is a definate distinction between the 2 enegines, as it has been mentioned in several interviews, where the engine comes from, does it share content etc. I read somewhere that all call of duty games from now on, whether developed my IW or Trey would use Trey's engine from BLOPS. Yes the engines are similar as COd4 was the "base engine" so to speak. The game have a lot of similar features, create a class, XP, prestigeing, but this is just content and not reliant on the game engine. I much prefer MW2, it felt tighter, and slicker, and generally looked better and less cartoony. I felt the net code and bullet detection is better on MW2, say what you like but I've played both to death and MW2 was definatly better.
It's still the same engine . The gameplay changes they made doesnt truly warrant being called a new engine ... at best it's a new flavor . The first real change came for the massive rehaul of the old engine , for cod4 . Hence it dubbed IW engine since . But the gap between mw and waw or even mw1 and BO certainly isnt the same . They didnt even change the physics engine , merely applied their spin in gameplay , for better or for worse
They should bc R3 an BF3 will be far better games!!!!!
Unfortunately it will probably surpass black ops in sales
Probably because they all know a large part of the PS3/PC fan base are still pissed off over the problems of Black Ops. Edit: I'm one of those people. >:(
I think they feel threatened by the other games set to release toward the end of the year.
Or becuase its just before christmas and the biggest selling period in the whole year. Do people just make stuff up to bash Call of duty?
After black ops that's it for me. I don't need another cod for while. My military shooters of choice will be socom and then battlefield 3. Also playing a bit of killzone 3 until socom and resistance 3 later this year. I'm no longer excited about cod because its basically just gonna be a new map pack with a few different guns and kill streaks.
When i go back and play battlefield 2 on pc i really notice how much the modern warfare games ripped them off.
Just give me Battlefield 3!
well more and more people are starting see COD never really changes that will affect sales but also new kids to the series are going to buy it so yea this year COD might be he best selling game but NOT the best game of the year....that most likely will go to Uncharted 3 or Battlefield 3
But it will be the great Infinity Ward making it!!! (sarcasm)
There are still plenty of morons to buy the next COD, Activision shouldn't sell itself so short.
So do we. ;)
lol oh man this cod is going to suck, activison dosent even like it
lmao!!! true dat,if the publisher doesnt like it then it must suck
i really hope battlefield stands up to cod2011....well at least on metacritic
Who gives a rat about meta average. Just make then game a fun time to play and it's a win for gamers.
I would hope with all the Real AAA exclusive coming out around the same time.....no to mention there hasn't been a good call of duty since 2 &4
If the next CoD includes great maps, a fun and long singleplayer with co-op and a alien outbreak mode im in!
wait a year and take that extra time to make it something worthwhile again.
Why, that would just make.... um sense they wouldn't wanna do that now, would they?
They better. gamers are begining to see the light you can only force feed gamers crap for so long.as for me black ops was the last straw
