PS3, Xbox 360 Pose a 'Larger Threat' to TV Service Providers

It's been said that both Microsoft and Sony are in the console space not just for games, but to take over the entire living room. With increasing penetration of broadband and more people connecting consoles to the Internet, both companies are getting closer to that goal. A new Parks Associates report found that 64% of U.S. broadband households with an Internet-connectable game console have it hooked up to the Internet, which represents a sizable change from 2007, when only 25% had their next-gen console connected.

I know I use my systems for plenty of video content: Netflix, Blu-ray, etc. It's tempting to cut my cable bill, so yeah this report seems spot on to me.

So true.
With the PSN Video Store, Blu-ray and Netflix plus Internet Browser for anything else,
I rarely watch TV now.

I don't even have cable. I pirate all my TV shows and movies, the rest I watch on netflix but Canada netflix kind of sucks.

sooner or later, these consoles, or next-gen consoles to be certain, will be our main Cable/Satilite box/ or IPTV box as well. no need for extra tv boxes....

360 already does this with AT&T's IPTV service.

Totally agree, I only watch Sports on TV now, mainly baseball and they offer the MLB package on the ps3 anyway.

To be honest, I've been looking for a way to stream live sports through my PC or Ps3. Because thats all need cable for.

Satellite/cable can be really expensive at times. These cable companies need to get with the program and lower their prices or face mass discontinues of services from us consumers.

That's what Internet service providers did. Internet used to be soo expensive back in the day until competition made them compete for our wallets and lower prices across the board. Now you can really get good speeds for $50 or less a month.

So competition is between them is always good for us, the consumers...
