gosh they need to just come out with a new source engine already! if they can get this engine to keep up with most games graphics these days from a engine they were developing back in early 2000's, imagine what they could come up with in a completely new engine! :)

Still puts 90% of console games to shame ;)

I think the next big engine revolution will be iD Tech 5 and then UE4. After that, Source 2.0 or whatever they call it will have the spotlight but for now seeing as how Valve time goes next Source engine is still quite a way down the road.

@ dontbhatin

Forgot to put the spaces in there. It's iD's next engine. You know.. one of the major pioneers of graphics since the beginning of FPS and gaming.

For reference, CoD:BO and MW2 still use iD Tech 3.

@ Birdy

Pretty sure you don't as it's a mod for Half Life2, not Opposing Forces which was a mod for HL1. You need HL2 for sure as it uses the Source engine files. Normally mods will have an autorun.exe to install the mod, but if there isn't then here is a tutorial. It's quite simple actually.

Source is coming along nicely. Portal 2 will feature some type of Source Engine update or new engine. Undoubtedly to support DirectX 11 and other things. Portal 2 tops many new game's graphics. Clearly something about it is different.

id Tech 5 will be a nice engine, but I don't think MW2 or Black Ops use Tech 3. They use IW or Infinity Ward Engine 4.0. Lots of licensing potential in id Tech 5 though. As well as UE 4, CryEngine 4 all coming in the next 3 years or rumored anyway. Either way I am betting the reveal of UE4 and or CryEngine 4 will be around the launch of next generation consoles. Technically CryEngine 3.0 can still be powerhouse engine for consoles in a new generation.

See, this is why I LOVE PC Gaming. Mod support. Makes me wish I had a Windows computer.
