Phil Harrison confirms that, although there is a delay, PlayStation Home will be seeing an open beta test available to all PS3 owners, later this year.
thats good to hear
at least, its open to all, as long as there aren't any ridiculous glitches it will be fine
Although I find this news bittersweet.
been, wait to get my hands on this for some time! an if PHIL says its coming, then for once maybe it is actually COMING!!
Yea that dude is pretty honest. If he doesn't know he won't say it and if he predicts something specifically with dates, its a promise. Too bad Jack Trenton can't live up to Phil's image.
Let this brother know....PM me...lol
Nowhere in Phil Harrison's quote does he mention that all PS3 owners will be able to participate in the open beta like the contributor stated in the article's summary. I'm definitely a noob when it comes to beta testing, and I'm sure others don't quite have a good understanding of what that term means as well though.
Would someone please explain the term "open beta"? Is it really a way that anyone who wants to join-in on the testing, can? Will you still have to get an invite, or will we just be able to register online somewhere, d/l Home, and you're good to go?
Excuse my ignorance, I really just want to give Home a try as soon as I can, and don't want to miss out.
the HOME beta will be open to anyone who wants to take part, theres a chance that you may need to sign up but i doubt it, im sure it'll just come over the PSN or possibly in a fireware update.
obviously i cant answer your question as know one out side sony knows but im sure this will be avaliable to us all but if you keep your eyes on gaming sites such as this it will all become clear closer to the date! hope this helped.
an CLOSED beta is one in which users sign up for it but sony would only select a handful of people to participate
an OPEN beta is one where ALL ps3 owners can join but they have to sign up. And not everyone will sign up so there will be fewer people using it then the full release
and the FULL RELEASE is open to all ps3 owners with no signing up required
it will show up in the PSN store and you'll have to download it
Well if the beta is coming out in late November/December then technically there's only like one month's delay. PS3 owners will still get Home this year
They mine as well have saved face and avoided the word "delay" but rather explained it would be released with many bugs, but that they would be worked out. LOL, this and an open-beta are the thing, and you might just get away with masking an open-beta as a release when the game is completely free.
Although there is some delay, as it was originally slated for October, and any intuitive gamer knew it would be buggy at best, due to the lack of hype and information from Sony.
i might as well keep checking this site: http://www.homebetatrial.co...
They already missed one open beta date & we still have no explination as to why the beta never happened on that original date. I will believe this when I am playing Home.
Sony saved themselves with that announcement. And usually, Phil's word is bond. He's clearly the best PR guy Sony has. Imagine if Phil would have unveiled the PLAYSTATION 3 at E3 2005 instead of Ken Kutaragi, it may not have been held to such impossible standards. More people may have respected the system.
There's no way I can hear Phil saying PS3 has 4D graphics and dissing the XBOX 360.
Cool. Thanks for answering my question everyone!
It really cleared things up. I check this site almost daily, so I'm sure I'll be on top of the open beta whenever it gets announced.
Oh, you mean the one that was supposed to be out like a month or 2 ago? You're starting to piss me off, sony.
Not to bash it or anything, but what exactly is there to well beta? Before I say anything else I should probably say I have absolutely none, zip, nadda, no interest in HOME!!!
I mean the only real use for it that I can see is the whole meeting with clan mates before a match or something like that, but beyond that? I mean who is really and honestly going to sit around for hours and chat with a virtual person? Now having said that, I'm pretty sure lots of people will though for the life of me I will never figure out why. To each their own I guess!
I'm in close beta, trust me it's pretty boring, you guys dont want to get in there now. Not enough ppl to cause fun.
I would not put any faith in this announcement until you are playing the beta. Phil is a cool guy but I just dont trust Sony at this point.
