It has been revealed that Sega's upcoming sandbox game, Yakuza 4, has over six hours worth of cutscenes - 384 minutes to be precise.
... let's just hope none of the cut-scenes will be cut.
Haha, I see what you did there. Hopefully Sega's assurances will hold true this time around.
Lord of the Rings be damned that's a lot. I'm all about original voice overs "and" no cutting :p
Producer Masayoshi Kikuchi has already mentioned in that: "Yakuza 4" will fare better; it will include every element of the Japanese original except an impenetrable Japanese general-knowledge quiz game called "Answer × Answer." So no I don't think any of the cut-scenes will be cut along with any other content besides that.
... but they kinda said the same thing about Yakuza 3, that the quiz and 'only' the hosting stuff was cut, and it turned out a bunch more side-quests were cut as well. So TBH, I'm not taking Sega's word over this just yet. Also, I would have liked to have seen the quiz remain in there. You don't HAVE to do the quiz, so for anyone finding it 'impenetrable', they can just skip it, for all 'japanophiles', it would have been a nice addition.
Agree'd it would've been a nice addition just like having the Japanese Box art over the NA and U.K. versions.
in Y3 the sidequests cuts were tied to the hosting process .. Now this issue will be solved because they are back ..i can live without answer X answer obvously
I don't see what the big appeal is for the Yakuza games. I played parts of the third one and some of the ones on PS2 and while for PS2 games they were pretty decent, on the PS3 they just feel very very dated. Am I missing something?
Definitely you missing something. The Yakuza games are all about the story and the connection you build with the characters. yeah sure the mechanics are last gen, and the graphics aren't the best but it more than makes up for it with compelling story lines, tongue in cheek humor, and tons of content, all delivered with a lot of heart. Not to mention it just so bad ass when you are stomping faces in! One minute you can be helping an old lady retrieve her purse from a robber, next minute you are eating ramen noodles with a orphaned girl, then you are taking a picture of funny ass situation to gain more skills, then you are stomping faces in, hitting in a batting cage, filming a movie, stomping more faces, fighting a ludicrous boss battle. THAT is the beauty of these games. You just don't know WTF is going to happen and when.
It's more or less an acquired taste is the only way I can describe it. I personally fell in love with Shenmue on the Dreamcast (Heart still broken about it being it ending in a cliff hanger along with Viewtiful Joe). So when I discovered the Yakuza series it was pretty much a dream come true for me with every iteration of the series it feels like its becoming more and more of a spiritual successor to Shenmue (Not surprising since the game's Designer / Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi was a supervisor for Shenmue). In which I got to say along with Shenmue and Yakuza as epically awesome I think these games are they are not really for everybody. I recall Gamespot reviewing Shenmue expressing alot of boredom for them while they are playing. I recently talked to a guy who thought the Yakuza series was pretty much a GTA clone. Glad I could educate him on what it really was :D. All I can really say is if its not for you, then its not for you. No harm done right?
The fact that I got two very well spoken, non-demeaning, explanations about the good things about this series surprises me to no end. Especially on this site. I genuinely expected to be blasted out of the water for not understanding the appeal. Instead I got understanding and actual responses. Bubbles to both of you. This actually makes me want to retry the series.
Yep, gameplay and graphics looks and feels dated. But it's the story, the ass kicking, etc... i dont know, it's hard to explain.
so hideo kojima is secretly producing this one?
If Kojima was producing it, they'd have to triple the number of hours. :D /lamejoke
Holy crap....I didn't know Yakuza was going the way of MGS :).
Glad to hear it. What I expect from another awesome Yakuza game :)
Absolutely cannot wait for this.
I think more games should be twice/three times as long as modern movies. Justifies the cost a bit more eh?
This is what i'm talking about!! fyi i thought MGS4 cutscenes were find :)
6 Hours of cut-scenes, 2 hours of gameplay.
Whats wrong with you?
Dont mind the troll.
Someone never played Yakuza game before.. You can beat these games in between 20 to 30 hours and be only 10% completed. There is more content in here than 90% of games out.
True . i'm 78% completed in Y3 with 80 hours in ..
You can put in hours upon hours of gaming in the Yakuza games if you want to do everything. There's practically TOO much to do.
I guess you prefer Halo or CoD - no cutscenes, 2 hours of gameplay. http://videogamelength.blog... Among the longest games on the PS3
for completing all the sub-stories (I think) you can actually breeze through Yakuza 3 on extra-hard mode in about 3-4 hours. Funnily enough, most of the time is spent skipping cut-scenes.
If i remember well im used to seeing u in topics bashing trolls and now u are trolling!!! How do u feel???? (-_-)
They already took my 2bubs when i wasn't trolling, not i don't care.
@Kon Time to find a new account KON , or is it green ring of life ? wait what was your previous account before that ? Are you trying to get the longest streak of 1 bubble accounts on N4G ?
I always thought the cut scenes in Yakuza 3 didn't get the credit they deserved. The facial animations were really quite realistic, and far surpassed a lot of games out today... Even more cut scenes are fine by me
ooohhh finally someone who thinks the same! :)
U make a good point but i do not need more cut scenes.I dont want another MGS4 30MIN long min movie...I want more game play instead.
Have you played any Yakuza games before? They are freaking long The cutscenes are a part of the story and does not feel longwinded. Trust there is plenty of gameplay, more than most people can handle.
Sweet! Been waiting for this one for a while! 384 min of cuscenes?:O Hope they include all the mini-games this time, like they promised. The funny thing though, is that this game has been out i Japan for quite some time. By the time it's released here, their almost ready to release the next one in the land of the rising sun. I'm just glad the game made it here at all! I loved the 3rd one (even though a lot of the content was cut), and can't wait to play this!
Yakuza 4 will retain all of the mini game content except for "Answer X Answer" which is a japanese culture quiz game. I mean I didn't even think the Onsen (Japanese Hot Springs) would make it to the other versions yet it is.....
I love me a good story so can't wait.
but the cut-scenes are the best part of the Yakuza series. They're tremendously well directed/acted and look stunning, so they're always a breeze to sit through, never a chore. Seriously pumped for this game now, but it's still well over a month away :(
yakuza 3 is as good as uncharted 2, can't wait for 4th
lol, gotta full up that bluray somehow
only 6h? I remember during one cut scene in the demo my controller switched off.
Yakuza 3 is (together with Mass Effect 1) my favorite game this gen. Yakuza 4 = day one.
