Most people will tell you that Wii is in the middle of its twilight years, a statement that's easy to believe now that Nintendo is preparing to release a handheld with more apparent power than the familiar white (and now black or red) box, but there's no reason the Wii has to go out with a whimper. Even if Jason Venter writes: "Nintendo announces a Wii successor at this year's E3, which seems increasingly likely, that hardware may not arrive in North America until the middle or end of 2012. In the interim, Nintendo needs to keep excitement focused on Wii to maintain worldwide developer interest in Nintendo's brand of home console. Consumer excitement will go a long way toward doing so, along with support in the present for the third parties of the future, so 2011 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Wii. As exciting as the announcement of a new Kirby title is, we can be certain that it's only the beginning..."
