Nintendo has revealed how many digits will be required for Friend Codes.
Although it's shorter than the Wii Codes, Let us make our own god dam user names. I understand why they won't since their hardware is all about the kids or younger age people, they wouldn't want people with inappropriate names. But still
there should be no numbers in the first place, NGP is so much better
STFU I'm tired of this site.. It's crawling with lame PS fanboys that want to shove their Sony bullshit down our throats
But he's right, whole friend codes system is plain retarded. You don't need to be fanboy to realize that.
DenyTheFacts, your name suits you. A friend code system for online is just a terrible idea, I mean they've improved it so that it no longer changes per game but it's still a shoddy idea. It should be account based with features being tied to those accounts. One thing I'm wondering about is how will the DS store's purchases transfer to the 3DS?
Random Poster: "That's what she said."
Yeah there's no reason why they could't have created some sort of user-friendly friend system like PSN and XBL where you have an actual name. They better at least have actual names on the Wii 2.
You do get to make your own names. The name and Mii you make will pop up on your friends friends list. You wont be seeing 123-456-789 is playing Ocarina of Time.
Oh ok. I didn't realize that. It still should be like the other systems where you just send a request to add a friend with their gamer tag and you don't have to fool with some cumbersome number system.
Better but too long still.
12 digits? ------ fail
Wtf, how long was the last one? Anyway, won't be using that crappy system anyway, give me my fcking zelda already.
16, I felt like I was making a creditcard purchase everytime I played online. So it's only using one friend code or is there separate codes for each game still?
only one code
pain in the ass.
lmao . they should just cancel this damn thing to save themselves the embarrassment. Friend codes? seriously?
You'd like that wouldn't you.
No but wouldn't you?
Why couldn't they come up with a simple thing....LIKE NAMES????? Was it seriously that complicated??
i guess its better then nothing
Still longer than a social security number.... While I agree this is really stupid.... I really hate friend codes, At least we only have to enter one per a system instead of each individual game. And if your in the same room as the somebody else with a 3DS it will automatically exchange friend codes. I dont really see the need for this though..... they can make sure bad names are reported like MS and Sony does. And they can easily block bad works out...... Somebody above me said the NGP is better and thats like saying the sky is blue...... no sh!t the only issue is for me is the the software better? And I am a huge fan of Pokemon logging over 1000 hours into Pokemon Pearl and Platinum so I have to get a 3DS. And I love Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, ect ....... I do wish Nintendo's games were made with the Sony's NGP hardware. That way I can get everything I want on 1 handheld......
Pokemon is the same game over and over and over again. I mean damn. And Mario, as fun as it is, is so whored out it's not even funny. Hell I love Uncharted a lot but if they ever start whoring it out like Mario I'll lose interest. BTW I'm pretty sure the games are going to be there on the NGP. Sony has so many first part studios plus all the third party studios too. Also, even though I won't be buying it, CoD online on the PSP2 is probably going to help sell the NGP.
Sry pal but that is what makes nintendo nintendo, I mean sure, rehash over rehash, undeniable but sheer-able, ignore what u don't like and simply move on. Ocarina of time is all the same thing yet im soo utterly eager to play it, nintendo's magic and screw whoever disagree. Haven't played pokemon since the gold/silver, fond memories tho, wont be shelling too much. @Reddeaddestroyer2... No mistakes like rehashing the same damn franchise over 9 thousand mate, xbox can go screw themselves, but sony has delivered even though not all the games are 60fps 1080... Games is what they have delivered which nintendo lacking in new ideas, simply can't.
While Pokemon is the same game over and over again.... so is everything that is really popular: COD, Halo, Madden...ect. I think the difference with me and Pokemon this time around is there actually going to have a proper online with rankings, stats, items that can won and collected and random online battles. These were all missing in previous Pokemon titles. And with so many Pokemon to collect and them adding new 3 on 3 battles that doesnt sound like much but there is serious strategy in it. I guess thats why I keep coming back...... Its addicting. Once i get one Pokemon to level 100 there is always more to make my team more deadly. But now it will really count cause of the Rankings, leaderboards, ect. Usually Mario has different gameplay mechanics between systems. Like Galaxy is really different than Sunshine. So I really dont get tired of Mario. Just as long as there are innovative levels, the controls are solid, and there is plenty of fun to be had, I will always play main mario games. I dont have any problem with Sony but it just seems like there software is always a white dude with a gun.... Uncharted, Resistence, Killzone,. My favorite sony franchises are Demon souls and Infamous 2 games without guns and they didnt mention any of those games for the PSP2..... I love the PSP 2 hardware Im just not thrilled with paying 300+ bucks for one then buying games that will probably cost 50-60 bucks that are same type of games I can get on my PS3. I really don't need to play a console type game when I am waiting in line at the bank or waiting on fast food.... More power to you dude if you dont like Pokemon thats fine. I just find it so fun to pit my best Pokemon against somebody elses. Especially when were both really good!
You know I bought a DS last October just to get back into pokemon. I logged in over 400hrs into HeartGold. I can say this now that pokemon sure isn't what it used to be. The whole friend code was a pain in the ass, especially now with a bigger emphasis on "Gotta TRADE them all" rather than "Gotta CATCH them all" of old times. Nintento, with their reputation of not taking huge leaps in graphical prowess for a console, keeps limiting Pokemon's true potential. I mean how long has it been and the damn pokemon still don't have a constant animation in the battle scenes? Under my impression the only Pokemon game that has done that was Crystal, and that's partly do to the fact that pokemon was at 151 still. All I know is, I'm not getting Black/White when they come out. I'm going to resell my DS soon, and I'll just wait for a proper sequel (with constant animations in the battle scenes for once) before I even try it again. Hopefully the 3DS is where Pokemon will take that leap.
I think it's funny how Nintendo's loyal fans can get screwed by Nintendo and still manage to wholeheartedly support the big N. Just an Opinion people. No need to get all stirred up.
OVER NINE THOUSAND!
Is it just me that doesn't really have a problem with Friend Codes? Sure they were a pain in the a** on the Wii and DS, having to put in different codes for different games, but I actually find a number easier to remember than some people's gamertags. Isn't it easier to put something like 1234-5678-9012 into a system than trying to type in xxS36a5t1aNx1985xx ? Sometimes I have problems remembering where some people put certain characters in their gamertags - plus some people do change them often. And on the other hand, with a unique code rather than a gamertag, it doesn't need policed by Nintendo. How many people have been banned because of their usernames - all because the company decides that the name is offensive etc (even if it is not)? You do have to take in kid's safety too. The number of people on things like Facebook (and even on Xbox Live) that give away too much personal information can be quite dangerous.
I clicked agree by accident. So anyway, if you spelled their name wrong, ask them for it. How could that be a problem? If its someone online, just look at the recent players list. I would much rather have a name I chose, an identity, rather than a damn serial code like I'm a drone our an inmate. But its not like Nintendo is too serious about the online arena, so I wouldn't expect them to be concerned about giving players that freedom.
It's not really that different from a number - I don't get what the big deal is. The majority of the time, the name you want isn't available, so you have to have something else, or get creative, which can be quite confusing when you are giving your tag out to people, or for some people to type in. This is no different from giving someone your phone number - and nobody complains because you don't get to choose that.
No one has things like xxS36a5t1aNx1985xx as their user name; your point is invalid. And the friend codes are never like that, they are a random bunch of numbers not in any formation.
Actually, one of my Xbox friends' gamertags IS like that - I just changed a couple of things so he couldn't be identified. But by all means, go onto Xbox live, look up my gamertag (DigitalEdgeX81) and look at my friends list - you'll see that there are quite a few that aren't all that straightforward - plus you will see the tag that I refer to. And your point about friend codes being random numbers is a valid one - I never said they weren't, but so are phone numbers, and everybody is fine using those, aren't they?
There's a big difference between a name and a number. As I said, your name/tag/ID identifies who you are on the internet. That's the reason we have avatars. These Wii codes are like inmate numbers in prison. A number is just another in line, and like you said, you can't change that. If you're a Nintendo fan, just say so, but don't act serious when you say coming up with a name and inputting it is confusing. You're just having a laugh, right? You enter the name once and forget about it, just like those phone numbers you mentioned. How many people actually remember or dial their friends by individual number? You dial by the NAME in your contact list. Also, I saw someone above say you input these friend codes for individual games. Is this true? That would make it all the more worse.
Well, my PSN ID is 15 characters long so I can't complain :)
To those saying "pokemon is pokemon" and getting bland: Let's hear that when.. Augmented Reality POKEMON cockfights with voice command in 3D! .. gets developed! I love the NGP more but hate monopoly for the handheld gaming section. I want Apple, Nintendo and Sony to fight it out more.. in the end we can progress faster to amore intuitive and faster devices because of their neck to neck competition.
Dude you said the same exact thing in that other thread and I have to tell you, It's still not funny.
I've never considered friend-codes a system worthy to be passed down from console generation to console generation. This is the third time they go for friend codes. Strange people!
yup friend codes for a kiddy handheld console...seems appropriate yet annoying at the same time. Guess this is why my friends never went online on his wii and my brother never go online with his DSlite.
I would actually have said that the whole Friend Code system is a more adult method than a kiddy one. There aren't many kids who could get used to the system Nintendo implemented on the Wii or DS, whereas, it is much easier for younger people to just pick names on XBL or PSN. The system was more aimed at adults/parents who were more used to using numbers instead of names. Part of Nintendo's 'protect the kids' vision I guess. No wonder it never really took off.
