Is A Final Fantasy XIII Sequel Necessary?

In Final Fantasy X-2, the story circles around Yuna, who is on a mission to find Tidus. Now the continuation of X made sense; Tidus and Yuna fall in love but then Tidus disappears after the battle with Sin/Jecht. XIII, however, I thought ended quite well. So why a sequel? Granted, I love Final Fantasy as much as the next game nerd, but some games should stay the way they are. (Final Fantasy XIII-2, PS3, Xbox 360)
