PS3 XMB being Replaced?

Revolt-Tech.com Writes:

I would like to make it clear that this article is based on speculation from the details of the Next Generation Portable (NGP) by Sony. It is quite possible, even likely, that this means the Playstation 3 will receive an update to the interface in the near future.

Nah, not cool. This kind of interface is perfect and slick for a touchscreen device. But when you're working with up/down/left/right buttons as your selection mechanism, this wouldn't be efficient or logical. That's why the XMB is great in my opinion... Everything is in those directions, so it's always logical which button you have to press to get somewhere. Menus that have diagonals often get cumbersome because you don't know when you press down whether you're going to go down-left or down-right.

I love how you guys all act as though the xmb is some revelation because it uses an up/down left/right setup. Newsflash - pretty much every menu in existence has used this setup, they just pretty it up so it's not as bland as the xmb.

The xmb is far to cluttered with too many redundant options along with too much nesting. Definitely needs an overhaul, especially the in-game one.

XMB is fine. I do agree though that the in-game xmb needs to be organized and redone better.

he is right, in game it can take far too long to load, loading up stuff we dont even need, like printer settings for example why load that up in game when its not needed, if it just loaded a necessary one with only usable features in games like , quit game, mic settings, messages, friends online, trophies, thts all it really needs to load up, none of the rest

I don't know why some people are criticizing my comment. All I said was "the XMB is great in my opinion." I never said it was "some revelation" or "perfect." It does load too slowly, and it is missing some organizational options that I would like to have, but it's the basic layout and functionality that just works and doesn't need to be totally overhauled.

Whiel I think LiveArea is nifty, I do hope there is an option to use the XMB in case I wish to change

would make sense if the screen is touch and im pretty sure this would be optional in settings but this is what you would see out box

Considering that's suppose to be for touch screens, they'd have to make it for Move.

Edit:
They might make it preform like a touch screen interface, give it a 2D to 3D transition appearance, but like Bart says, they'd have to make it process quicker.

writersblock2396d ago

I doubt they;d make it exactly the same, but they might redo the XMB on the PS3

Raendom2396d ago

I would love it to be revamped. Not entirely replaced.

Nah.... I can't see it happening. That interface in the pic is best suited to the PSP 2.

You touch the bubbles to navigate to certain parts of the system, very clean & simple.
