Could Sony's NGP Retail for $400?

Sony's newly revealed NGP looks impressive, but the one crucial question on the minds of gamers everywhere is, "How much will this thing set me back?" Some believe the NGP will be competitively priced with Nintendo's 3DS at $249, but then there are others who have indicated a much higher possible MSRP for the portable. The OLED screen itself no doubt cost Sony a pretty penny.

I Want It To Be 249 Dollars But Ill Be Happy At 300

I_find_it_funny2399d ago

maybe it could, maybe it couldn't this is pointless, just wait for the announcement

Joni-Ice2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Yeah I think $349. The PSPgo was $300 when it came out and that has less features so NGP may very well be over $300. Considering the 3DS has increase its price because of new features the same may happen with NGP. We just need to be ready for the worse. Day 1 regardless for me.

Taking a look to the hardware. And is Next Generation.

I will say at least $300 - $350. But it will cost more than PS3, hmm.

Some people are expecting $250 (and I hope is true) with that kind of Hardware.

I think NGP will take care 1st the community of Enthusiast Gamers.

lil Titan2399d ago

the bundle will probably be $400 but there needs to be a release on the price so people can save there pennys

Zinc2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

I would think, if you wanted to be on the safe side, you would save $400.00 or so, as we don't really know what it will cost. Even if it doesn't cost $400.00 and instead costs $250 or $300, it's not like you missed out on anything and saving is a good practice if you can anyway.

I don't think they should go over $300.00 for the unit, but then-again, people pay more than that for a smart phone...

pain777pas2399d ago

249 dollars if they want to sell out day one. 300 dollars is what everyone can live with for what we perceive we are getting out of it.

SpitFireAce852399d ago

Well come E3 2011 and we will find out...my guess
around the $300 mark...where can i pre order 3
sell 2 on eBay pay mine of with the profit...lol

conswella2399d ago

It is worth 300 to me. but the cameras add extra that i do not want. so that is going to cost everyone more, whether they want it or not.

As much as I want it to be $300(at most) it souds like a possible price, specially after seeing it run UC.

deadreckoning6662399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

YUP, Uncharted had touch controls on the front AND back. $400 is a possible price, but knowing Sony, they'll include a free game or a collection of free demos to make consumer's feel they gt their bang for their buck. Hypothetically speaking, if I didn't have a PS3 and I was in the market for a portable gaming console...id buy the NGP for $400 in a heartbeat.

@RBLAZE- Yeah, and the features we saw today are probably only the tip of the iceberg. I bet it'll be able to recognize voice commands as well. And SONY hasn't even gone into detail about the media features yet.

RBLAZE19882399d ago

Yea uncharted looked pretty awesome with the touch and motion controls. Imagine aiming your sniper rifle zoomed in by just moving around the psp2 or NGP. You might look kinda wierd but that comes with the territory now with the 3ds and other motion controlled devices coming out. I can't wait to see more of that killzone game and monster hunter looks awesome. Hopefully some cool rpgs come out for it too...

donniebaseball2399d ago

The components, just like PS3, are going to be very expensive for Sony. Hopefully though they learned their lesson with PS3 and won't price themselves out of the market, which is what $400 would do. $300 really is the upper limit I think.

mushroomwig2399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Apparently Sony might be selling the PSP2 at a loss, meaning it'll be cheaper than people expect.

RBLAZE19882399d ago (Edited 2399d ago )

Yes they announced that they would be selling it at a loss which is good for us. Plus they announced that there would be multiple sku's. One with wifi and 3g built in and one relying soley on wifi which would allow for a much cheaper price. Though I think I would get the 3g and just pony up the extra cash because if you travel with it the 3g would come in handy or if your wifi is down. I think the 3g one is gonna be 350 while the wifi only one will be around 300. But honestly I don't think they'd go to 400 if they are selling it for a loss.

We'll have to wait and see but I am very excite!

Zinc2399d ago

They can more easily absorb that initial loss, considering they are making a modest profit on the PS3 now and have been for a year or so.

They make up for it in licensing, just like Microsoft did.

OpenGL2399d ago

It should be considerably cheaper than the PS3 (at least for the CPU and GPU) because it will be using a system on a chip. I imagine though the 5" 960x544 OLED screen will be the most expensive component, at least for awhile.

pain777pas2399d ago

Guys there are no lazers or motors or anything here. They purchased a chip plant back from Toshiba I believe. They developed this OLED tech long ago and touch functionality should not be that expensive. The move at cost to Sony couldn't be more than 15 dollars minus the led. They could get this thing down to 249 and make a profit if QA does its job. Minus major collapse. They could probably at cost this is $150 at most. Taking shipping, marketing ...etc into account yes $249 is low. However, I truly believe that at $300 they are in the PS3 territory and like the PSP before it they may not get the initial sales that they would hope for. This system is a significant upgrade from the original PSP especially in functionality. I am really impressed and intrigued to see what games come out on top. This can cater to the Nintendog crowd, Brain Age crowd, Cross word and puzzle crowd and the core. They really have a great piece of tech here and if they don't watch it PS3 may have competition from within the Sony empire. The NGP UI and features are better than the home console. Mic and camera on every system day one. This will be the best Sony system yet.

DA_SHREDDER2399d ago

It will be $400 bucks if you want the 3G model. Im assuming it will be a phone too,, otherwise Sony is obviously not trying to take market share from Apple's Iphone. Which to me is not a lucrative idea.

Serjikal_Strike2399d ago

I paid $600 for my ps3

I'll gladly pay $400 bucks for the NGP

donniebaseball2399d ago

Sony loves people like you, but there aren't enough people like you who'd be willing to pay that
