Carmack is a tech genius, so when he's saying shit like this: "Low level APIs will allow the Sony NGP to perform about a generation beyond smart phones with comparable specs."...you know this thing is the real deal. I just want to know when I can put money down for mine. Good lord.

SSKILLZ2456d ago

That would be crazy !!!

SuperStrokey11232456d ago

so for him to say something good about NGP must really mean NGP is a f*cking beast. You know, a beast that can actually f*ck with next gen console graphics.

The guru of 3d and videos game has said it. And so now it beguns. I just bought iphone 4 just because John carmack has it and made a game for it.

Now i need to find that bastard micheal patcher who said dead on arrival to punch on his face!

Sony is going to run into the same problems it did with the PSP. Look, the casual audience that's need for these mobile devices to be a success doesn't want Rage or MSG or Uncharted on a mobile device. They want Cut The Rope or Angry Birds. Games that require minimal time investment and can easily be put down and picked up. The game core will be happy but they don't make these devices successful. They're the minority. Development and software for Android, Apple I devices and Windows 7 will be far more successful that the PSP2. 2004 all over again.

"..casual audience ... doesn't want Rage or MSG or Uncharted on a mobile device. They want Cut The Rope or Angry Birds."

Which is why Sony also have a Playstion Phone that uses the Playstation Suite for Android.

"Development and software for Android, Apple devices and Windows 7 will be far more successful that the PSP2."

Which is why Sony also has Playstation Suite platform neutral framwork for Android phones, tablets, other devices. That is for the casuals. Targeting mulitple devices.

Meanwhile, NGP is for the hardcore gamers.

Basically, Sony is spreading Playstation content to every devices. And It's no longer about selling the most Sony devices. No. It's about getting Playstation contents into as many devices as possible.

Face it, this is 2004 all over again. In every sense, it's mass market modest specs vs enthusiast high tech. Nothing groundbreaking going on here.

When I saw the CPU for NGP last night, my reaction was like this, and I thought it was a typo from the Informer

Quad Core for a Portable, amazing.

Listen to this man, He speaks the truth.

Father of FPS right there. I shouldn't have to tell you that though, of course, the dude is a legend.

R2D22456d ago (Edited 2456d ago )

I think Carmack is from the distant future but got stuck in this period. The dude loves very powerful tech and in his eyes everything that he see's now is stone age tech.

Where the f#$k are the flying cars, teleporters, holograms, hot milf presidents.....

NYC_Gamer2456d ago

i hope he makes some games for the psp2

joeorc2456d ago

he has the experience to back it up.

despite how many thought Carmac was slamming the PS3 in the start of the generation. he has proved that he still takes his thought's on technology an how to use hardware for development as top notch, he's one of those developers that when he talks about a platform for development he understands which direction is best suited from his stand point's. it may not be for everyone's opinion on his take.

But you can tell he is well respected, an him taking this stance so quickly on the hardware is pretty exciting, in my opinion he's one of the best software developer's to date.

Thats pretty cool if you ask me, looks like he may have a development kit there at the office..hehehe
