The evolution of the videogame industry has never moved faster than it has in the past ten years. Whether we're talking about the sudden explosion of fitness games, the ability for garage game developers to become rich, or even the plastic toy guitars we now use to interact with our televisions, it is undeniable that the way we play videogames today is vastly different than it was just ten years ago.
At the beginning of 2011, the editorial staff at 1UP was asked to whittle the past decade down to a list of the fifty most important new videogame properties. While just about all of us came away from the exercise frustrated about the exclusion of at least one of our favorites, it's hard to imagine a list as tight as the one we came up with. Please enjoy.
