Gamespy Review Heavenly Sword

After receiving a retail copy of Heavenly Sword, Gamespy has posted their final review of the game, stating that many of their criticisms mentioned in their Out of the Box review no longer stand:

"A few weeks ago, we did an Out of the Box review of Heavenly Sword that was extremely critical of the game's framerate in addition to its reliance on hack and slash gimmickry. However, following further testing of genuine retail code, our stance on this game as a lackluster offering has softened. The slight improvement to performance has made a world of difference to Heavenly Sword and our second playthrough seemed decidedly more enjoyable."

not that sounds better.

critics should review the game when it goes gold that way they can make sure its the final build of the game. A week in development can make a difference.

GameSpy does not "re"-review the game. The other "review" is actually an "out of the box" review, which is really a final preview -- it does not even have a score.

"Re-review" has certain far-fetching implications in the critic circle. Critics and reviewers generally do NOT re-review anything because that hurts their credibility. So don't put the word in other people's mouth.

This has nothing to do with some sort of 'rush to judgement'.

This is Gamespy doing damage control for getting caught trying to trash another PS3 game.

They are now backpeddling.

Translation:

We used the excuse of 'framerate and combat system' to trash the game and no one else did and now we look like a bunch of idiotic Xbox fanboys.

The process for review sites to trash PS3 games usually goes like this:

* Some meme is seized upon - motion controls, game length, etc by one of the Microsoft/Xbox sites

* And early 'review' or article puts out the word that this is what everyone should use to trash the PS3 game

* Other Xbots at review sites follow along and parrot the same BS memes as an excuse to trash the PS3 game

In the case of Gamespy they got caught all alone with no other review sites to go along with the Heavenly Sword trashing. If they had gotten other Xbot reviewers spouting the same crap they wouldn't have to do this backpeddling and damage control.

Once again it should make it to clear to every PS3 owner that Sony needs to get a handle on the PS3 review fiasco going on right now. Microsoft can't make hardware worth shît or do anything but pump out more overhyped Halo crap but they have managed to infest the vast majority of game review sites out there like EGM/1Up/PSM and others.

do you really believe there is a MS review conspiracy thats giving sony games bad reviews? retarded

heres why that theory is retarded; ONE GAME GOT UNANIMOUSLY BAD REVIEWS. LAIR. THATS IT. ONE GAME

sorry bout the caps people im just sick of reading this conspiracy murmuring bullsh1t. Warhawk, a GREAT GAME, recieved unanimously good reviews. so has heavenly sword, i havent read one review on it that's below a 7, Resistance got great reviews, so did motorstorm, oblivion on ps3, etc. theres no conspiracy

shut up trying to be clever, they have written this because of the major increase in the games proformance from the build they played. So the title is fine, stop moaning and get layed :)

techie3717d ago

They reviewed the review build once, they now review a retail copy. Every other site reviewed using a review build, gamespy reviewed it once without giving it a score, and this time RE-review it, giving a score.

No deception was intended...it's all just linguistics.

ktchong3717d ago (Edited 3717d ago )

What's the score last time?

Can't find it?

Because there's no last time. There wasn't a review score the last time. There's no this time or last time. This is the only time they review this title and gives it a review score.

xaphanze3717d ago

ok we got u the first time bro.The title was deceiving.

lonestarmt3717d ago

given to all journalists? thats why all the other reviews commented on it, no wait they didn't. Sometimes I swear reviewers don't even beat the game before they review it because they want to be first or they have a really tight time table. The game is really not that short, it just such a great title the time goes by really fast and you want more, so when it ends, your like wow i want more!! What you play though is pure gold. Best storyline, best acting, best prestation, period. The action is not bad either :-)

Something tells me that is the last time Gamespy will get an early crack at reviewing a release from Sony.
