Dead Space 2 Wants Your Money Son

TGP writes: ''The ways of advertising never ceases to amaze me. From the increase of nudity on screen to the dumbing down of the general population and the amount of useless products still being bought throughout the different trailer parks worldwide. (Trailer park is of course just a way to portrait a certain mindset of a certain set of people...) But i felt that EA hit rock bottom with their latest ad for Dead Space 2. And when I say rock bottom I mean through the rock, into the ground, 60 feet below the dirt and into the core of the entire earth itself… Let me explain.''

So we are talking about a game giving it more press... thats exactly what ads like this are designed to do.

Author took the bait hook, line and sinker

Buff10444838d ago

Where was this writer when I was watching all those R-rated movies as a kid? Seriously. RoboCop!? I shouldn't have seen half the things in that movie. Eh, I turned out OK.

Kakihara4838d ago

Aargh, the guy at the end all melted up from acid. Haven't seen the movie since I was a little kid but that'll stay with me forever. Still though, it pales in comparison to the head exploding scene from scanners and most of an American werewolf in London as fuel for my childhood nightmares.

DanSolo4838d ago

When I was a kid it was that one scene in American Werewolf in London that scared the shit out of me....
when the dude is dreaming, and see's himself in that hospital bed in the forest and the eyes open and the faces changes.... the rest of the movie didnt scare me... but that bit gave me many sleepless nights lol.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4838d ago

Dead Space 2's ad campaign IS ridiculous. Feel sorry for the kids whose parents saw these ads and banned them from ever playing it lol.

"I don't care if you're 17 I don't want that crap being played under my roof!!!"

SpikeSpiegel4838d ago

Besides, lets not kid ourselves into thinking that only those 17 and older play mature rated games. I was watching horror movies and playing Metal Gear Solid when I was 14.

RIPSKATEDESTROY4838d ago

the point is that EA exposed themselfs. we know that kids play the games and we now know that EA doesnt care.

Blaine4838d ago (Edited 4838d ago )

Oh boo-hoo. I was never more interested in playing Resident Evil than when I was 12. Sure, the BOX says the game is for gamers 17 and up, but that's an arbitrary rating given by some board. Playing RE when I was so young hasn't affected my development in any way.

But I'm not surprised at an article like this coming from someone who believes in the "dumbing down of the general population". News flash: the general population has ALWAYS been dumb. In fact, they've never been so smart. It's only with universal schooling that we're becoming aware of how dumb the general population is, and also because, throughout our history, it was BENEFICIAL to the ruling classes to keep the masses dumb.

DanSolo4838d ago

Well you are half right on the dumbing down of the general population side of things, we do have better education today then we have throughout history.... but the author does have a point about the general population being dumbed down at the moment.
Although the possibility for education is there, in the last 10 years or so there has been an ever increasing nosedive into celebrity worshipping idiocy, reality TV and various other brain rotting activities!

But I am only commenting on that side of things, I haven't seen the ads for DS2, don't really care about em to be honest. Game looks good though!

Blaine4838d ago

Sure, those things you point out make it seem like the population is dumbing down, but it's not the case. Before celebrity whores it was something else--only you're noticing this issue because we're in it. Look back on decades past and you'll see there were much worse issues, and you only need to go a few decades back to get to a time when education was inaccessible to most of the population.

I won't argue with you on Dead Space 2 though! The game looks amazing. I was surprised at how good the first one was, and the second easily looks better in every way.

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel14d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel13d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia14d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda13d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long13d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto13d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long13d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls733d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado33d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta33d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B33d ago

thanks to the digital pass for it it was not perfect..in fact its difficult to find a working copy since many years.

EA Hopes to Use Generative AI to Drive Monetization and Make Development 30% More Efficient

Today Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson provided a look into his ideas for the use of generative AI in the company's development processes.

I wonder what the next buzz word they'll slap in front of AI to make it sound exciting next? "Generative" as if it's creating its own content. Lol.

Cacabunga48d ago

EA is already dying a painful death..

peppeaccardo48d ago

i have a better idea .. why the whole exec team doesn't get replaced by chat bots ?

just_looken49d ago

Though i agree the ai thing is already in other forms of media there have been ai translations/scripts/voice over and even full ai commercials aired on tv. Ubisoft has created a ai game creator story/vo/music except the building of the game

The new unreal engine has auto terrain creation tools

In the world of greed in which it is winning without any major blow back ai is our future.

everyone want's biden dead on the mic or a criminal instead of a woman and now we are getting ai everything because no one will stop watching/playing ai created media.

GamerRN48d ago

Maybe they should just focus on making good games?

Just a thought...

Kiryu199248d ago

Exactly EA are just pure evil. When they are beating Bank of America to be voted the worst company to work for that’s saying a lot

Good thing I don’t buy their games day one and wait for deep deep sale years after launch (the select few games I am actually interested in)

Gaming is making so much money yet the greed of these companies is never ending

CEO’s and people on board making millions yet cutting jobs to those who are actually making the products

EA is still a shady shitty company even with or without the help of Skynet. All they will use AI for is new ways to milk loot boxes and come up with the same sports title with a different year on the label. They are one company I truly do hate with a passion. They single handedly ruined some great franchise with their death touch. ME, Dead Space, Alice Returns, Dante's Inferno.

EA layoffs followed by 'Generative AI to Drive Monetization'

I knew it. Wonder what AI salary looks like? Nothing.

ChasterMies48d ago

I having a feeling that most of the layoffs in the industry are based on the idea that AI will do the same job for less.

DarXyde48d ago

Very likely, yes.

Made worse by the fact that the execs aren't changing their compensations.

My deepest fear at this point is that we are now in the capitalism endgame.

At this point, we really should just burn AI to the ground. Executives cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
How are those people expected to support families if everything gets automated?

Barlos49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

And take away creativity, and people's jobs as we've been seeing. Got it.

No thanks. I want my games created by people, not AI.

CobraKai49d ago

Exactly. If or when games start becoming more AI than people, im done with gaming. AI and companies like EA can suck donkey d***k.

just_looken49d ago

Though i agree remember this is no ps3/360 era were we got up to 3 games in one generation from on developer like gears/halo/bioware/sony/ms

The people today are pro esg/sweet baby for the most part AAA gaming is imploding right now.

We should be stepping back re evaluate everything as a whole this year xmen 97 written/directed by a woman that is nuts and its also being made by a group reshaping bodies to be less sexual like wtf. A dam famous cartoon from the 90's is being rebuilt with millions spent to be worse in everyway.

Gaming/movies/tv shows made today are worse than what we had 7years ago ai won't change this but that ai is also being made by these groups so either way we are screwed.

Eonjay48d ago

Don't be of afraid of women. Sexy characters in games and movies still exist. Got my Stellar Blade on preorder!!! Everything all the time doesn't need to be sexual...that's stupid, childish and dull.

Chocoburger49d ago (Edited 49d ago )

EA doesn't want to lose their title of worst gaming company ever, always trying their best to remain the champs!
What's sad is that they have so much potential to be a decent publisher.

SSX Tricky / SSX 3
Def Jam Vendetta / Fight for New York
NBA Street
NFL Steet
Mirror's Edge
Bad Company
Burnout 3 / 4 / 5

Remember when EA used to be awesome? It's all over with now. Unpolished, if not out-right broken games these days. Endless monetization and gambling in their sports games, and let's not forget wasting hours of your life trying to unlock characters or equipment using "surprise boxes!"
