Halo 3 Reviewed in Famitsu

Here are the latest numbers out of Japan. Halo 3 is reviewed and receives 10/9/9/9 from the popular Japanese game magazine.

Like Ninja Giaden 2, with graphics like these, it hints that the xbox360 has maxed out graphically.

You should be concerned that this is a third / fourth gen title that is very (very) important like a new release of Mario and Ninja Gaiden. There should've been a breakthrough in graphical power, righ?

A) By the way, DVD isn't really hi-def despite talks about 720p / 1080p or else we wouldn't need HD-DVD or Bluray.

B) By the way, xbots will have spent the most money by the end of this generation for these reasons:
1) Internet fees of almost $400 to $500
2) Upgrading consoles for defective reasons
3) Buying a standalone bluray player (most likely a PS3) and / or an HD-DVD add on because the xbox360 lacks those
4) Buying a Wii because of motion sensing and eye toy that are lacking
5) Probably upgrading to the xbox720, adding another $400 to $600 because in a few years, the PS3 will put on its turbo boost and the xbox360 can't keep up anymore so it will release a new console prematurely to compete
6) all the number of games and movies and accessories purchased

Whether you like to believe it or not, that's the most money ever spent by people who brag about saving money.

C) By the way, micorosft is responsible for the crime of not only releasing fualty hardware, but also for restricting high quality graphics in this gen's games. Look at Halo or Ninja Gaiden 2 for example. Microsoft is a car that maxes out at 60mph. Not wanting to lose the race, the company rigged the laws so that all cars must not go beyond 60mph and placed several roadblocks in front of the PS3 and other cars, even though the brooding PS3 lamborghinni knows it can burn rubber at 200mph or even 600 mph. Because of Microsoft, you not only get faulty hardware at a high price that can only play games, because of them, ALL gamers will have to settle for sub-par graphics this generation until we unleash the PS3. No one can tolerate unethical behavior forever. The cops are coming. The PS3 will be free, beginning with Grand Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy VIII and MGS4 and Killzone 2.

No one will tolerate Microsoft's 60mph forever....

The fact that Halo scored well does not effect Sony in the least. Fanboy delusions aside, everyone knows it will sell well and score well (I've got my copy pre-ordered). I would be surprised if it did not score well.

Also, the mantra that "PS3 has no games" is getting old, bro. No one is buying it anymore. After i finished Bioshock, I went right into Warhawk, Lair (fun game, so reviews be darned) and Heavenly Sword. I literally haven't touched my 360 in almost a month (that will change with Halo). PGR3, Condemned, GRAW, Oblivion, Dead Rising, Saints Row, Burnout Revenge, Call of Duty 2, and let's not forget...Gears of War, all in the first year. And those were the ones I enjoyed playing.

That's also why I brought a console a year ahead of the PS3, so rather than sucking PS3 morsel codes, I can actually play decent games. No doubt, the PS3 will finally get some great games next year, but then, so will the 360.

Like it or not, Halo is an awesome franchise. I've never even played the game (never owned a Box or 360) but the sheer numbers don't lie. Maybe it's not your cup of tea, for whatever reason, but at the end of the day...it sells. Period.

The MLG (Major League Gaming circuit) is still dominated by Halo 2 on the XBox. These guys are playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars on a game that came out THREE years ago. Dozens of titles have come and gone but this game still reigns King on that circuit.

a good game is a good game regardless of system and i'm sure Halo3 is going to be a good game, i'll wait for the only review that matters to me and thats what Edge has to say. It's the only magazine that offers unbiased opinions and over the years has offered reviews with comments and opinions i can relate to and agree with.
The reviews of HS and Bioshock were both bang on the mark for me and i don't expect anything else from Halo3. If it scores anything less than a 9 from Edge i will be surprised if the preview they had in the september issue has anything to go by, come september the 27th and the november issue hit's the uk i expect a 10

i don't own a 360 i am a happy ps3 owner but i am not blinkered in any way and a good game is a good game simple as that, Halo3 is clearly shaping up to be just that

You are completely right about Edge. I missed out od Edge issue zero, but ever since Edge issue on in 1993, I have obtained every issue. It is the only magazine where no one can claim fanboy. Their reviews are by consensus.

Though they gave ioshock 8 out 10 they did not shy away from pointing out its faults. No pulling punches there

This whole fanboy mentality really confuses me. Why such dedication to a company? Why such dedication to game of all things? I have an xbox 360. I bought it roughly a year and a half ago, and it's currently out for repairs. It's the only next gen system I own, but I'm willing to admit it's faulty. I don't lose my mind every time a PS3 owner talks about an upcoming game, or how impressive the PS3 technology is. I'm sure it is, and if I had the money I would buy a PS3 as well as a Nintendo Wii. Different genre but same type of game. The sequel is virtually a carbon copy of a dated game with ho-hum graphics and technology. Despite all that, millions of brainwashed fans will jump off the cliff for a game that can barely be considered as above average.

Whats the most dissapointing thing about Halo 3? Still no dedicated servers!! This is the third game in the series but the muliplayer is still peer to peer. I still can't play 32 players game thanks to a AAA title that use the same ancient networking scheme as the orginal Doom.

32 players online, and what are you guys doing? running around with crappy animations, and bland textures (that's you Warhawk) shooting other people...yes, exactly the same thing you can do with 16 players. 32 players online is overated if the game design can't take advantage of those numbers. And you know the funny thing? More people will be PAYING to play Halo 3's 16 player lobbys than people who will play Warhawks and Resistances free 32 player lobby. And if you're going to say it's because of hype, then Microsoft deserve to be successful, because no amount of hype can make a game THAT good. Hurts doesn't it?

I'm pretty sure this game could be substandard and still get incredible scores. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the game IS substandard, but it's one of those games people are going to score highly regardless, just due to pedigree. Halo 1 and 2 were both well recieved because they were released at the perfect time, and for their tenure pretty much defined the genre. I think Halo 3's release will do no different.

The only thing I worry about is campaign length.

Halo 3 will cross boundaries and be the biggest seller in entertainment history. The first day sales are set to blow away Transformers, Spiderman 3 or any other movie that has ever released! (This is accepted fact)

This will BTW sell a few extra 360's in the next few months. The Halo 3 sales surge will wipe out the last of the old 360 stock and the new 65 micron chipset will slide out without even needing a closeout sale. Once the new chipset and H3 are both out we could see 360 sales 2x PS2 and 3x PS3 this Christmas.

If you were a game developer - instead of a fanboy - which console would you develop games for? I'd go with the one that is MUCH easier to develop for, has more than 3x the installed base, is selling more than 2x the PS3 worldwide and hosted the fastest selling entertainment product of all time. Not to mention that 360 owners have an amazing attach rate. Compared to Wii and PS2 owners the 360 folks sure open their wallets and buy games!

I'm not really surprised, Famitsu usually have great review scores for Xbox 360 titles considering that they're a Japanese company, however review scores of 360 titles have barely any affect on the hardware sales.

This doesn't mean Halo 3 will sell well in Japan. They don't care there, even if it is a great game.

Nevertheless we all know FPS's are not that popular in Japan except the big high-profile games that reviewers just cannot Ignore. I think Halo has been one of them.

Till this day, some are still mystified by it's presence. (comparing it to PC FPS, and the story to every other game, when in fact, HAlO is HALO, Thats it.

You can name a thousand PC games that maybe better than Halo 1, 2, 3, but can you name any other "CONSOLE MULTI-PLAYER FPS" that has fared so well, as well as being a staple for a consoles success early on?

This game spurred millions of XBL subscribers and with MS expanding on the "DREAMCAST" model look at where it is now, as well as the competition. That's saying something to the 7 million plus actually paying for the service.(business is business)

While some say, Sony not having game rant, is getting old, but it's the same as the Red Ring articles being posted, when we know about the 3 year warranty, and the new "falcon" Consoles this winter. these are good scores, because Japan tends to be very anti-western gaming. Blue-dragon is very much thier style that is why it is scored the same. Even lost planet has a sci-fi art style that is very japanese. American reviewer will score this game very high as well, so to compare Ign and famistu scores is not a very good comparsion.

RE4 is a well made game that please a diverse section of gamers, where-as blue-dragon is also a well made game but it is made with the japanese in mind first that is why it scored high there and not here.

Halo 3 will surely be just as good as Halo 2. I feel sorry for the game reviewers that are going to give this game an 8. However I doubt that can happen.

a 9 is a pretty high mark for a game. But how much of that score is based on how unique a title is vs how fun it is? I think Reviewers need to have mission statements that say how they rank games. Gamepro seems to have the only really good method.

I don't see how Halo3 can outscore a Bioshock/Oblivion/Mass Effect/Little Big World/ by being an single and multiplayer FPS. Seems to me that GTA should get a higher mark than HALO3 because of what it brings to the table. If its just based on the Fun you have with the game, and the quality.. I think Fusion Frenzy should be ranked at about an 8 or a 9. That game rocks.

Seriously, it is JUST a REVIEW. I'm not saying the game is going to be bad, I just think that you really can't talk about the game as a whole until you actually PLAY. (that was for the xbot fanboys). PS3 owners, don't start flaming because you don't have Killzone 2 to play right now. Wii owners, don't get to excited, this game isn't going to put any of the big three out of business. Mario and Brawl will be amazing, too, so don't get all worried about Halo 3.
That aside...

This is definitely the third amazing FPS to come out within 3-4 months. With Bioshock, Metroid Prime 3, and Halo 3, there is hundreds and hundreds of hours of quality FPS to be played. Each system has amazing games and the FPS's for all of them are starting to get good. It is basically a party for all of us!!

why? Famitsu is a respected review source from Japan, they favor JRPG's but even they can recognize a great game.

its obvious sonykids dont like Halo3 because they have brand loyalty, which imo is foolish, I owned almost every console before, including a ps1 and ps2, I go where the best games go, when xbox was released I could see the improvement over ps2, but I never complained that the ps2 sold so well because I understood its gaming library was what a huge factor in its success, but I think sony took the market for granted after the success of the ps2 and lost their focus on gaming, so I may buy a ps3 eventually but only when its dirt cheap and has better selection of games.

We received halo 3 last Tuesday(Sept 11th) . And today at work (sept 20th) one of managers put one of the copies into the xbox display console in the gaming departement. We got in 350 copies of the standard edition, 50 copies of the limited edition ,and 5 of the collectors edition (helmet). I know for a fact the we have not sold any to consumers yet but I wonder if by putting it in the demo console for everyone to play is still against the street date. Microcenter has like 21 stores nation wide one of the few BYOPC stores you can go. I found it amazing that my store recieved that many copies of Halo 3 that it did.
