Hands-on with the world's first sport's based MMORPG - Empire of Sports

Imagine if you will, a highly competitive online sporting arena, a virtual world open twenty four hours a day where thousands of gamers compete to become the world's number one in different sports, gaining real fans along the way, attracting the eyes of real-world sponsors and becoming real stars in the gaming arena.

This is the ambitious vision of French Developer F4 and Swiss developer Infront Sports & Media who are both hoping that their new game, Empire of Sports (the world's first MMORPG based around the world of sport) will appeal to the naturally competitive nature of gamers and really get our adrenaline pumping upon its release later this year.

If done right.

Problem is SOE will probably buy the publishing rights.. or better yet they'll just buy F4 and/or Infront Sports & Media.

[edit]@Capt CHAOS

yea i knew its PC only...i thought PC once i saw MMORPG in the title, but like u said, cross platform would be able to help sell more units..unless the game is bad of course

The news is PC, I suspect that something like this should be cross platform to really take off.. though Wii owners might have an unfair advantage - or disadvantage..

Edit: Yeah, imagine cross platform with teams of gamers on PS3s vs 360 vs Wii vs PC gamers..

Good luck to them.

(I don't do MMORPG - on the grounds of cost :-(

Yep, you're right. If done right this could be huge.

Because it's a relatively small company, they'll be testing the water on PC and then bringing it to Xbox 360 and PS3 if it's a success.

They are actually self publishing it. Infront Sports & Media are the publishers. The only thing that will stop this game from not doing really well is poor marketing and the lack of any big name being involved. Let's hope that's not the case.

Checked out the Infront website looks like they've got the Sports Muscle to do something interesting.

Funny though, Infront has got a big connection with FIFA so I'm surprised they haven't done anything with football. :-/
