GameFront: Ripples in the Pool: The Long-Term Implications of the PS3 Hack

Think this whole PS3 hack thing doesn’t affect you? Think again. (PS3, Tech)

ThatsGaming  +   1429d ago
Unfortunately
This is really overshadowing and few good game releases...

The focus of gamers should be on LBP2 and DC Online Umniverse...

Not the PS3 hacks.
TBM  +   1429d ago
Doesn't effect me as I will never mod my PS3, and I pretty much don't read any of the PS3 hacked articles. When I log onto this site I just go straight to actual news about games
Nineball2112  +   1429d ago
But yet.... here you are. It's a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

Hmmm... who to believe? You or you? ;-)

Just messing with ya, TBM.

Cheers

one things for sure Sony needs to show they can ban consoles that are abusing online games and regain control of psn

the time of release of a new patch and the time it takes hakers to overcome it are going to be the deciding factor. imo

i think if sony can go outsie the box a bit here it's doable. For example just recode psn to need an encrypted handshake to log in then make a key that can b changed easily weekly or as needed.
Tho obviously im no techy id do hope they can do something.

ps i have a jailbroken ps3 since we bought a new one for xmas... playin snes on our big screen is epic fun lol
since its the kids we keep it offline n having our games backed up so they dont touch em is cool.

Screw long term. Short term it's ruining my gaming news with the plethora of articles clogging up the Internet instead of focusing on real gaming news that supports gaming.

Nothing in these articles is considered new. We've seen tons of articles on how hacks do and don't affect us and what it means for the industry. We can't do squat about it, though. Well, unless one of us just happens to be the judge in charge of the trial.
divideby0  +   1429d ago
wont waste the time reading the article..
its just gonna be a bunch of rehash speculation

these sites are so desperate looking for hitz, they rather promote negative than talk about the great games released THIS Week... how pathetic is that
fredfenster  +   1429d ago
Okay the ps3 hack hype is over, people should move on.
30sec  +   1429d ago
Why do people think Sony is going to do nothing? This will only increase the current cat and mouse game played in the gaming industry between itself and the hacking community.
Kakkoii  +   1429d ago
Nobody is saying that aren't going to do anything. What they are saying is that there is LITTLE Sony can do about it.
30sec  +   1429d ago
What they are saying is incorrect.
Kakkoii  +   1429d ago
No, it's not. The most Sony can do is create white/black lists for software and employ some sort of network based monitoring. You cannot patch a key that is used for every piece of software and game on the PS3.

The actions of that idiot will affect everybody in the long run. DO NOT mod your consoles. Pirates are the only ones that benefit from it.
fight4lov  +   1429d ago
I'll do whatever the hell i want.
yewles1  +   1429d ago
And we'll bitch at how ever the hell we want. XD

So I don't benefit from being able to use my PS3 as a media hub capable of playing a plethora of formats on my TV? Or playing emulators of old NES/SNES/etc.. games on my TV for some nostalgia fun? Or being able to use it as a computer in my living room running Linux hooked up to the big screen?

Interesting..

This PS3 hack doesn't affect me at all. NOT ONE BIT. I'll keep playing my games on my 360, and my blu-rays on my PS3 with no problems at all. Can't wait for my HD Loader part 2 to go into affect!

From the article:
"Sure, there are consoles floating around with mod chips in them, but those historically have been a fairly small number, and they don’t affect anyone other than the console owner. If you torrent an XBox 360 game and play it, you’re stealing from the game developer, but you’re not going online and ruining the game that everyone else actually paid for."

In summary:
Stealing from a company: kind of bad, i guess.
Cheating in a game: how horrible! these people are evil!

First, the island nation of Tristan da Cunha shall fall...then like dominoes every other country shalt become a post-apocalyptic nightmare.

And it all started because the PS3 was hacked....bastards!

Well if the hacking like whats been going on in CodMW and CoDMW2 starts happening in other games Sony better do some console banning and I mean every last one of them. On the official Playstation forums you have people talking about how they have modded ps3's and use altered code to screw with the games, and if something isn't done I will seriously consider just moving onto PC gaming and just use my Ps3 for the singe player exclusives.
xino  +   1429d ago
people acting as if Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 are getting hacked online, the game had always been hacked because of poor port design!

-Ninja Gaiden 3-is sick!:)

"If you torrent an XBox 360 game and play it, you’re stealing from the game developer"

No, stealing requires there to be a loss from one party. With piracy there is only a gain. The developer has not suffered a loss of anything, unless the person pirating was someone who was actually going to buy the game in the first place, but then suddenly decided to just pirate it.
