Paul writes, "..Final Fantasy Versus XIII title will be more of an Action-based FF than has been seen on consoles similar to Crisis Core.."
I personally think this would be a good thing, I don't want to see the main series stop using turn-based battle but spinoffs using Action are definitely fun as hell too.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII looked a lot more similar to Kingdom Hearts, but either way, the battle system looks very enjoyable.
Everyone already knew it would be an action RPG like Crisis Core. That's not a bad thing because Crisis Core is one of the best action RPGs I've ever played, but this is in no way "news."
Yup. Like a more mature, darker, and grittier version of KH, or simply Crisis Core. I never played Crisis Core, but I'm well aware of its popularity. The gameplay in VersusXIII looks awesome, but it felt like a letdown for me personally. Thats what I get for being used to the flashiness of the Kingdom Hearts games...*cries* When the hits make contact, i'm expecting a big flash, not tiny white sparks...time to grow up. But this game, transformers:WFC, and Spiderman:WOS will push me to finally purchase a PS3. I always noticed I liked hand to hand combat games more than shooters(still play'em. just perference). I'll always pick up a sword instead of a gun. Must be my tastes in Eastern culture. Also explains why I like games with a learning curve. Learning new techniques, and mastering them. In shooters there's definetly a challenging aspect to the game, but the foundation is simply: "point and shoot". Hack'n Slash all the way!
Pretty sure they stopped using a strictly turn based combat system since XII, Hitman. And between all the vs, -2 and what not, its getting really hard to tell which is the "main" series.
FFvsXIII made me interested in FF, something I haven't felt since FF8 it just looks good
You know I have to agree with you. After FF8 I was never this interested in an rpg until versus13. Don't get me wrong I played all of them but there was always somethings in each installment after 8 that stopped me from loving them like I did 7 and 8 at the time. FFX kind of disappointed me because it did away with the traditional map and was kind of a shock to me because I had not followed much of it til release but the story line and cut scenes were some of the best and most gripping and the game was still long and huge dispite no world map. But after FFX we all know FF went down the shitter but Versus looks like it might bring it back to life. We'll have to wait and see.
@Hitman0769 I totally agree, but then we will have to wait another 6 years to get an ATB or turn based battle system in a Final Fantasy game.
1. Towns 2. Airships 3. MAps It's the real next gen FF!!! ( Up above already confirm)
that and crisis core like gameplay makes me give Square a benefit of a doubt and let them see what they can do now after the FFXIII debacle.
I believe so, I think Nomura said it a while back, they were designing Chocobos to fit into the theme or something, then there was a discussion on the FF-XIII forums about it. Also Midguard, world map is confirmed, confirmed for years. Type 0 has one aswell.
The most important thing: Not a linear game Also Battles will take place in real-time environments using all regions of the field, from up high buildings to down low streets. Nomura said that the game will feature battles that take place in areas with great differences in height, as shown in the trailer, and the players will have to fight using the full environment. This means fighting what's in front, as well as above and below (vertical battles).
Versus in 6 1/2 mins just became my most anticipated game by a landslide.
I co-sign this sentiment. The most important thing is that this is not a linear game. It is followed closely by the next most important thing; which is (drum-roll) The next most important is that there are actual NPC's that we can interact with i.e, get missions or information from, or buy/sell things from them etc.
"The most important thing: Not a linear game " I really hope its open. One of main things that interests me in FF is an open world to explore (they are epic always)
um u guys say this is a real next gen ff......yes it is and looks amazing but remember we have not had a world map since ff9. ps2 was the era of losing world maps in most games like wild arms, ff, star ocean etc, only tales kept them really there. and plz ff12 was horrid, the map was ok, but gambit system made u literally put down ur controller and watch it play for u. sorta like macros on ff11. well cant wait for this, type zero and ff13-2!!!! yay!!!!
ff13-2 is probably just the cut shit from ff13. i remember them wanting to dlc.
Yea but they realized they could make an entire new game from the cut content from FF13 instead of selling it as DLC. So the $60 FF13-2 was brought into existence.
This looks like what XenoBlade would have been like on an HD console. Though I'm still waiting for actual airship footage - not that the trailer didn't have tons of other things to make you forget about airships.
They were on an airship towards the end, just not the overworld map airship...
Thoroughly excited about this game. It's already better than FFXIII looking at ps_alm3k's comment.
[email protected] not forget too the open world not linear crap like ff13.. :x
I hope this one is good, looking forward to it.
I have to admit I was really skeptical about the action rpg elements that this game has been advertised as having but after seeing that long and glorious trailer in the link and seeing all the combat and story action that looks like it could be in uncharted. This game looks like it will blow me away and plus AIRSHIPS and WORLD MAPS and drivable mechs and an interesting story with rpg elements this games looks like it's gonna wipe the floor with FFXIII. I can't wait for next year....Damnit!!! They should switch FF13-2 with the release date for Versus 13. Also the teams CGI work is astonishing. It almost feels like real life when I saw the CGI scenes especially in the beginning when they are driving the car through that security check point. This game looks epic and I think it will address many complex ideas and topics...Can't wait.
.. Wasn't it kind of common knowledge that Versus XIII was going to be an Action RPG like Kingdom Hearts? The writer makes it sound like he believed the title was going to be turn based combat..
DC Universe is what I would call an action RPG.
I thought Nomura said the battle system was supposed to resemble something like Kingdom HEarts Birth by Sleep? Which is in essence similar to Crisis Core.
Didn't everyone already know it was an action RPG, already? It was kind of confirmed a while ago.
looks like this will be the darkest Final Fantasy yet. and it looks amazing so far :D
i almost cried when i saw the trailer after hearing about ffxiii i was sooooo down but then booooooooooom up pops the awesome sauce
oh god yes. TONS OF AWESOME SAUCE 8D
The game looks pretty sweet. It's definitely a must buy :P.
This is the Final Fantasy FFXIII should of been. In the trailer I saw a battle and the transition turned from night to day while fighting. The detail in this game will be out of this world.
PS3 only? meh.
awww poor you!
Yep, im poor, this is why i only have a Xbox
Well everyone was sure it was coming to the 360...but I guess all those people who thought they knew were wrong. I had doubts because of Square Enix's recent track record of moronic decisions but I am so glad something went right for ps3 fans this gen from Square Enix as a company cause they've been shitting on us for 5 years now. They haven't released a single game for the ps3, the house of FF games for the last decade and a half, except for FF13.
Meh sounds retarded. I will pass and just wait for XIII-2.
I enjoyed Crisis Core so no issue for me. Anyway this isn't the real issue, what I myself want to see is the following 1) Towns 2) Maps 3) Proper summons (FF7, 8 or 10 style) 4) Junction system similar to FF8, for me still the best one there has been. 5) Party Control
This isn't news. We've known this for literally years. The only thing we don't know about the game is when it's going to release.
Oh my god, I love Final Fantasy!!!!! The new one looks so good, I'm sad it's not coming out this year : ( At least I can play XIII-2 while waiting :)
The FF game we've all been waiting for .......
It is? Wasn't ff13 suppose to be that..... Well parpare yourself for a let down just in case.
Yes, FF 13 was supposed to be that game until it was announced multiplaform which resulted in an average and linear game. On the other side, this is a PS3 exclusive with ( at the moment and hopefully remains so )with solid presentation, offers huge and vast spaces, exciting combat, promising graphics, and much more. I don't see a reason not to be excited for this title. Now, you go and play negative somewhere els kid.
why is everyone acting like this is news? anyone following the game's development would know that it is meant to be an action rpg.
Now you got my eyebrow raise slightly. -_•
I love action RPGs...day 1 for me...
This isn't news to me. It was revealed years ago that the battle system would be similar to Kingdom Hearts.
action RPG! then count me in.
I loved Crisis Core so this is good news to me...
But FFversus13 sound good
Until I hear from SE that it is exclusive, it is NOT exclusive. Xbox will probably save the big announcement for E3 like they did with FF13 and Metal Gear.
All you have to do, is to release the data that is over 20GB in length (not including HD CG's). MS CANNOT risk another multi-disk scenario as each disk has COSTS. This will end the debate to where the exclusivity will end up. If you remember that FFXIII had enough cut content to make a new game, you realize that Nomura's ambition is to have the biggest "imagination and ideas" possible in his. And right now, I'm feeling good about this. -End of Line
XIII-2 will kick ass, Versus is a joke.
But Zack have heavy combat without mediar combat (air combat) at least that what we saw in Crisis Core gameplay if anyone notice that avatar of your friend it move
Definately need to get this one!
