THQ has announced on its official WWEgames Facebook Page that from today, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide.
It Was Released On 5 Platforms & Only Racked Up A Measly 1.5 Million
people are tired of the lame gameplay every year
True, The Best Was IMO Smackdown 2 On PS1
The best was Here Comes The Pain. They've been selling less and less every year.
id argye the one on 64 was best...when u could walk into a crowd and get a chair or a bat...and pick those ninja dudes...oh man, i didnt know anything about wrestling but i played the hell out of that game with friends
my favourite game of the franchise was Here Come The Pain. Ever since that the franchise and WWE itself kind of went downhill for me in my opinion.
That was my favorite smackdown game too. In terms of the roster, the AI, the pacing, it was plain fun. I don't see them changing SvR's formula anytime soon and that goofy looking allstars game doesn't sit well with me either.
No sales upgrade, the series needs to take a UFC like absence and return every 2 years.
It is pretty much the same game every year anyway, I'm surprised it even sold this much.
Well people buy Madden, NBA, MLB, NHL, every year and so on.
This game must die.
Reason being is because WWE is now the leading wrestling company in the commercial world. There is basically no competition. TNA Wrestling is out there, but their priority is not making a video game every year. SvR is now a stale franchise running on the same engine for the past 10 or so years. Until a competitive wrestling video games comes out on the market, we're going to have the same WWE game running on the same engine.
THQ likes to experiment and I think that is what they were doing with Legends Of Wrestlemania and the upcoming All-Stars, trying to figure out what connects with us gamers so that they CAN maybe build on it and change the Smackdown Vs Raw formula some. But I don't see them changing it too much as long as the games are selling 1.5 million copies.
At least TNA game rights are in someone's hands now. I hope whenever the project gets to a solid point we can see some real innovation and bang for buck. WWE same old same old is terrible. I think with SVR 2011 they actually pushed a little more than usual because they expected TNA 2010/2011 to come out as well. There game is still typical SVR. Formula is old and needs a refresh and some time in between games. Do like COD. Two teams with two year development cycles. Not necessarily two game developers, but just add some more talent to the pot. More people = more ideas and a better baseline product. I think 2 year cycles with Legends of Wrestlemania and SVR series would work. If they wanted to alternate. They would need to change the wrestling controls in LoW though I believe. Selling 1.5 Million kinda surprised me, but 2011's weapon features did spark an interest in me buying the game. I might just wait for bargain bin or if it actually continues to sell maybe greatest hits collection or something if I am dying of boredom.
im even more surprised people still play wrestling games.
I haven't played a wrestling game since NO MERCY on Nintendo64. I don't mind these games but there is no need for an annual edition. Its not like other sports game, where the roster is always changing year to year. I still see the same wrestlers over and over.
Sad, the Smackdown vs. RAW series are having similar traits with EA's Madden: Update the rosters, change some controls here and there, add one or two more features, and there ya go!
Don't forget, "Take out a few features here and there, and put them back in again later down the line so you can have an extra few bullet points for marketing".
@ Paralex I can't believe their still using the PS2 engine. And I agree with others, Here Comes The Pain was the last good wrestling game. lol, I just read the article and a few things stands out. 1. The 1st game was released in 2000 not 1999( unless Japan got it in 99) 2. 2002's Shut Your Mouth is biggest seller in the series? I don't believe that.
Well done to THQ, I prefered SVR 2010 but this game wasnt that bad, I normally just spend countless hrs making my character. Best wrestling game still has to be Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy on the N64
I agree that SVR 2010 was better, especially in the number of moves you could perform. I feel limited in 2011. One thing I'm really liking about 2011 is the community creations.. I've downloaded tons of stars that should have been, but are not in the game, like Daniel Bryan, Alberto Del Rio and members of Nexus not included in the DLC and whoever made them did an amazing job in capturing their (and others) likeness.
NeXuS was one of the main reasons for me getting SVR 2011 I wanted that theme song lol also THQ need to do something with the franchise because all other franchise seem to remove far few features and add better or more unique ones to the series I dont think THQ has done enough of that, they have taken out many good features and not bother to add anything worthy in there place
people still play this crap?
Well am one of those 1.5 million people and am very happy with my purchase. If your now a wrestling fan you will not like the game
