Two MMOs from very different worlds. Which should you buy?
I am personally going to go with RIFT. I just don't like Star Wars MMO games. I think they just should have made KoToR 3 to be honest.
wow clone vs. star wars. ill go with star wars thx.
It seems that many people don't know this, but Content that would be considered KOTOR 3 will be in this game. The devs have stated that there is plenty of storyline related to KOTOR. There's even a trailer about it.
i'm going with tor because it delivers a new mmo experience
Same, I gave Rift a whirl in the beta, SSDD.
I didn't get to play the beta, but it looked fun from what I have seen.
I really wanted to play Rift until I actually played it. Now I really want to play TOR. We'll see if that game will have the same outcome for me. Rift is just TOO familiar that it's boring right from the get-go. They also seem to be failing on one aspect that they probably didn't even think about: serenity. It may sound odd, but in all honestly, that's what a lot of people like in their MMOs, even if they don't realize it. Rift's is a world filled with chaos and war as soon as you come out of the starting gate. Dismal, ruined environments, catastrophic explosions and a sense of urgency at all times is what they think players want, but that's not necessarily true all the time. Sure, everyone likes war and to fight, but a big aspect of MMOs are social interactions. These are hard to do in a game like this. I'll admit I haven't played the whole game yet (obviously) but the handful of zones I have been in lacked the kind of peaceful environments and "getaways" that players like to have in order to break the pace of war and combat. Warhammer lacked these as well, and because of it, the social aspect lacked severely. Rather, they had some peaceful zones, but the feeling of you always needing to RvR or PvP and kill other people made everyone ignore WHERE they were doing the killing. I hate to praise WoW for anything but this is one of the few things that game did right. It offered the whole package in terms of atmosphere and scenery, not just one filled with war. This may have changed in Cataclysm, I don't know, but the old Teldrassil and Elwynn forest zones for example were very atmospheric and offered a greatly different feel to the game, one where you felt like it was okay to take your time and explore and feel good doing it, rather than one pushing war on you at all times where you feel like you can't do anything but fight. TOR seems like they are going to offer a lot more atmosphere and varied locations and feels to different zones, so we'll see how that actually works out. If not, there's always Guild Wars 2 which most definitely will.
agreed, rift was somewhat pretty, but ultimately shallow, guild wars 2 and terra online look the best 2 me.
I am really looking forward to Guild Wars 2 and it is free to play to boot!
http://www.youtube.com/watc... a lot of video lol. Rift looks good though.. I hope Crytek makes an mmo lol! I wonder how well DC is gonna do on PC. so many option on PC!! oh yeah!! http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Do you believe that someone can top anything from Star Wars?
Neither. Buy Guild Wars 2.
This is the only right answer.
I would agree, except the release date is nowhere in sight, and I might want to play something in the meantime.
Guild Wars 2 all the way. I will try SWTOR as Bioware hasn't disappointed me with any of their games except for Mass Effect 2. I've been a big fan of the KOTOR series so I hope SWTOR is good. So far tho the gameplay looks very stale. So I hope they are working on it. Cause Guild Wars 2 is looking Super Strong gameplay-wise. Let me add i'm looking forward to Diablo 3 too :D
Sorry, I like my mmos seamless open worlds not a bunch instances like Guild Wars. The only reason I'll play GW2 is because it's free.
The Old Republic. Now, you see so many MMO's and the companys say "Oh. We'll beat World of Warcraft no problem" do they? Nope. But I honestly think TOR could be a WoW stopper. I aint saying WoW is s**t, im just stating the facts.
TOR will need to be playable on even the sh!test of sh!t computers for it to be a WoW stopper people dont no but the above point is arguably the reason why WoW is so popular
Have you seen SWTOR Gameplay? Sorry, an i'm a bioware fan but I cant let these things slide. im frankily not impressed at all. I currently play WoW an its gameplay is Far better than what im seeing in SWTOR. Now looking at Guild Wars 2 its gameplay is looking better than WoW and SWTOR put together.
Personally I'm looking forward to Rift as I haven't really played any new MMO for any significant chunks of time (3+ months) in years. Part of that was some of my favorite hopefuls being broken in some way or simply wasn't worth the effort (Conan's end game, WAR's 'balancing', AION timesink and 'balancing' issues as well--flight may sound interesting but was largely a near broken pvp mechanic in the abyss, gliding was fun though). Rift does stick to 'familiar' ground but partly its that familiarity that interests me. It combines elements from practically every MMO into something its own collectively (sort of reminds me of EQ in a way--if you aren't careful and alert you can and will probably be stomped by something nearly anywhere on the map). I don't know how long I'll actually stick with it but from the betas so far its a same assumption I'll be playing it for longer than any other MMO released in the past few years. If nothing else its a new world to explore (part of why I enjoy non-real world gaming--its a window into people's imaginations much like books, movies and other forms of art). I actually enjoy the hectic nature of it as its a nice change from the simple and much safer MMOs that have showed themselves either abject failures or quick burners. Rift could of course turn out the same but I'm hoping for more from it than SW (which is the question asked after all--neither of which will topple WoW by any means but could be interesting diversions in their own right). I could end up playing it for a decent amount of time though even if end game is weak as there should always be something to do (Rifts/Invasions/World Events, pvp, and toying with many different builds for all 4 basic classes that can become vastly different with only a few Soul pt changes). I may end up trying out Star Wars later on but I'd probably just play it for the story as by far seems the most interesting thing about it for me at least. Gameplay wise it doesn't really interest me from what I've seen.
TOR may well be the first MMO I ever play - love the KOTOR setting.
Can't I just buy both? SWTOR is a long way from release anyway, isn't it? There's probably a 99% chance I'll have played and gotten bored with at least two other MMOs before then, RIFT likely being one of them (and DCUO, which I'm having a blast with at the moment, but probably not forever, another).
