EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) judges have revealed that Blu-ray is the reason for recognising Sony's Playstation3 with an award in its home entertainment category.
Blu-ray is a nice feature in PS3 and I wish Microsoft would have included HD DVD in the 360 Elite.
But the fact is that PS3 has a 15% and declining next-gen market share in the US. EA has already said they are going to focus on the 360 first. And if the rumors are true, Sony is about to do a 2nd price cut in a matter of months, selling off other divisions to do so.
So, while it’s nice that there is a Blu-ray drive in the PS3, the extra cost it adds is probably the main reason why Sony is deep in 3rd place.
That, and/or the fact that Xbox started a year early. We'll never know but I wonder who would be in front if they had released at the same time.
"the extra cost it adds is probably the main reason why Sony is deep in 3rd place"
nice try desperate x-kiddy, but the PS3 was released a year later. Plus you would think the xbox would have a bigger lead considering it had a year head start with no direct competition for that time period.
"EA has already said they are going to focus on the 360 first" = Peter Moore!!!
I know the Xbox started a year earlier, but I’m not talking about past sales, the Xbox and Wii are STILL doubling PS3 in monthly sales. All I’m saying is while the Blu-ray drive is nice, the extra cost is a big factor in the PS3 being in 3rd place.
So was Peter Moore responsible for Madden 08 selling more copies on Xbox 360 than PS2, PS3, and Wii combined? Was Peter Moore responsible for 360 selling more copies of Tiger Woods PGA 08 than PS2 and PS3 combined? Moore joined the company two months ago. Those games were in development since last year’s iteration. Why wouldn't a company want to service the largest demographic of their customers first? I just think that's a silly statement. If you had a business would you focus on 100 customers who sometimes support your business or 500 regular customers? Come on.
Footnote: Madden numbers came from NPD and Tiger from VGChartz
You are wrong worlwide every month the PS3 outsells the 360
I'd definitely say that Blu-ray has overall affected the ps3 negatively so far and that the ps3 has definitely affected Blu-ray positively. No one can deny that the extra cost of the console is a factor in people's decision on which console to buy.
The other factor which many above me are throwing out there is the 1 year delayed launch but ask yourselves why the ps3 was delayed. Yup, to include Blu-ray. Sony originally set a launch date of May 06 in order to incorporate Blu-ray then had to delay until Nov 06 because Blu-ray wasn't ready. They launched even though the standard was still unfinished (and still is unfinished today).
what the heck are you talking about?
"but the PS3 was released a year later. Plus you would think the xbox would have a bigger lead considering it had a year head start with no direct competition for that time period".
did it ever occur to you that ps2 fanboys were waiting on the ps3 kinda like people passed up the dreamcast and got the ps2. that's why more people didn't purchase a 360 at launch.
Now let me ask you a question, why haven't all those ps2 fanboys jumped ship and purchased a ps3? according to a bunch of you sony fanboys that have made comments on this site, the ps3 is the only true next gen system, so where are the sales to back that up?
That was a funny statement.
The HD TV entertainment show that was put on last month also had 90% of TV's using blueray to show of the qaulity of the TV's.
Was that the name of the show? I have the podcast from the ppl that went to it. They said blueray owned the show.
Good news for Sony hardware.....
Yes,great news for Bluray since it's destroying the dying HDDVD format, and soon the PS3 will be 400 dol,YES!!!!!
If the Elite added HD-DVD into there system it would cost 650bucks!
I guess you didnt hear Mr Moore from EA say the problems you seen with EA games on the PS3 will be distant memory in the very near furture. He also said the reason u seen this problem was because the system is new. EA was working with the 360 for three years and the PS3 for 14months.
The main reason Sony is in 3rd place is because of price compared to the Wii and time compared to the 360....How many price cuts has the 360 had in the last year since the launch of the PS3? What 3?
I reported your comments as spam and i hope ppl that follow me will do the same.
Ummm... the 360 had one price cut and that was after the ps3 cut it's price... am I missing something?
When I first got my 360 I thought it had a HD-DVD Player built in. Boy was I mad when I found out it was a DVD Player. I new that that was going to be a big problem because you can only fit so much Hi-Def Video on a DVD and it probably is going to be compressed meaning quality will suffer. I am glad that I also bought a PS3 so i no longer have to worry about this. Blu-Ray openes up the doors for developers to do alot more if they choose to but the 360 and its DVD9 is holding them back. This isn't the case for PS3 exclusives so I will be buying more games that Sony has developed or third party exclusives. Of course I will still buy Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 but that is about it.
Wow you should really do a little research before buying something. So did you think the HD dvd add on was just in case people wanted to have 2 movies in their 360 at the same time? If you bought it at launch then don't give me that "I thought it had an HD-DVD Player built in" cuz in 2005 very very few people knew what an HD-DVD player was, and even less thought it would be in the 360 at launch.
"When I first got my 360 I thought it had a HD-DVD Player built in."
Your a complete dumbass!! why would anyone take your comments seriously lol.
This argument that gaming needs the larger disc to be Hidef is complete and utter bollox.
1. Warhawk is one of the best games on the ps3 (it makes the top ten on metacritic) yet it is only 800Mb? That's small enough to fit on a >CD<! Does that mean it has PS1 level graphics?! Or is it still Hidef?
2. Blue Dragon uses 3 DVDs. That's about 25Gb (8.5Gb x 3). Is this proof that Blu-ray is needed? No, it is proof that Blu-ray isn't needed at all. It is proof that even if the game requires more than 8.5Gb, it can still be done using DVD.
totally agree with your comment. but you know what sony fanboys will say "ha ha 3 discs to play one game, we only need one! hurray for blu - ray". stupid asses. i wonder if people who complain about games being on more than 1 disc are just lazy ass bastards or fat F*ckers or both?
Is anyone surprised about this? right now there is nothign else out there to distinguish it. i think this should be a huge offence to sony, their gaming console just won ebcause its a blue ray player not games, awful. i hope oen day they win ebcause they have some games.
Do you wish to wipe the Jews of the face of the Earth?
The PS3 like the 360 was not meant to be JUST a gaming console mr Ahmadinejad!
Both have said they want there systems to be the hub of all home entertainent! This article is about HDTV and thats why blueray won the award because it is a better hub for your home entertainment.....
btw it has a couple games now!
WOW! I just reported your comment as offensive. Racist.
Kutagari said in fall of 2006 that blu ray was ahead of its time. If the PS3 could have launched $399, critics would be quiet. PS3 will do well. Without Japan, 360 will be third. 360 must sell in Japan, after another major worldwide price cut, games, and disney support, PS3 will be hard to tame.
EISA awards are very important. It means that blu-ray is legit, and that it delivers exactly what Sony said it would as a media center.
Its also the best gaming platform. In fact the best ever.
Give Sony credit where it is due.Blu-Ray fo ever!
