Gran Turismo Sells 560.5K in December

After being delayed numerous times, Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 finally made it out on time for this past holiday season, and Sony proudly announced that the game had already shipped 5.5 million units worldwide (1.25 million of those were shipped to North America). Having hit U.S. store shelves on November 24, the racer placed only eighth on the November top 10 NPD chart.

Weird, I wonder why it's not doing as well. Are people just sick of Gran Turismo now?

Shadow Flare2627d ago

If you look at GT4's sales, the majority of sales came from Europe, and the US sales were quite low compared. GT4 went on to sell 10 million copies

Retro_Zombie2627d ago

Yeah GT5 is doing horrendously bad. : /

As of December 2010, Gran Turismo 5 sold over 5.5 million units. For 13 days, 423,000 copies of the game were sold per day.[93] Gran Turismo 5 is now the best-selling video game for the PlayStation 3. The Gran Turismo series as a whole has now totalled more than 61.41 million units sold so far worldwide[93] and remains the highest-selling PlayStation-exclusive franchise of all time. As of January 6, 2010, the game has sold about 5.5 millions copies.[94]

I keep saying that, but the fanboys seem to just tune it out. I guess when fact contradict what you want they become all blurring and illegible.

kancerkid2627d ago

Yes I understand I am quoting VGC, but I will only be talking about general estimates, not exact numbers.

According to VGChartz ( http://gamrreview.vgchartz.... GT5 is selling like hotcakes in Europe, but the Americans are barely picking it up more than the Japanese. And the Japanese are not picking it up much either, so there goes the theory the Japs only pick up Jap products b/c they are racist, because GT5 sure as hell is Japanese and they don't care.

"Japs only pick up Jap products b/c they are racist"
Actually, you sound racist.

kancerkid2626d ago

I did not feel like spelling JAPanese out multiple times.

how the hell is 5mill+ in 7 weeks bad ?

wtf is wrong with people on this site

according to VGCHARTS ( yea yea i know .. )
gt5 is behind halo reach by 800k+ at the 7 week mark
i didnt expect gt5 would sell more than halo early
but I do expect it to outsell halo in the long run

"After being delayed numerous times"

WTF is wrong w/ these people.

It got delayed once for 21 days. Did it take a longtime to come out....YES..was it delayed more than once.....NO.

awesomeperson2627d ago

Erm, thats the truth, I don't really get the disagrees (well I guess it IS N4G)

MariaHelFutura2627d ago

Unfortunately, some/most people on N4G disagree w/ the person NOT the comment. Sad, but true. F**k em.

gamingdroid2627d ago

Doesn't matter, you had to wait a long time for a game announced way back when and telling somebody it wasn't delayed doesn't change that fact.

It's unfortunate it didn't sell better, but the GT5 Collector's Edition is already discounted at Best Buy for $60 barely eeking out one and half month after release.

Exquisik2627d ago

A lot of games were in development for more than 4 years as well but you don't hear the media/critics complaining about their delays, do you?

Also, where in the world did you find a collector's edition of GT5 for $60? Last I heard, the collector's edition was sold out within days. I tried to look for the collector's edition when the game was released but yet I could not find it anywhere. Also, BB is selling the original version for $60 so why in the world would they sell the collector's edition for $60?

gamingdroid2626d ago (Edited 2626d ago )

A lot of games are in development for a long long time, but the vast majority of them don't get shown until it is ready sans a few select sinners (Alan Wake and Splinter Cell: Conviction). However, the far biggest sinner is Sony with their exclusives such as the Agent and of course GT5.

Why do you think people keep thinking GT5 is delayed multiple times?

GT5 Limited Edition for $60 at BB has been going for a while, see this page:

Stores will clearance out items they don't believe they can sell quickly to make room for other things. GT5 LE likely took up a lot of space and didn't sell well. Same with Fable 3 LE that also got clearanced out at $30 albeit 3 months after release....

PS3Freak2627d ago (Edited 2627d ago )

People will just never let it go. It was delayed in Japan once though, but that didn't affect anyone else.

SoapShoes2627d ago

It has sold nearly 1 million in the US so far with November + December sells. Plus over 5 1/2 million world wide. GT4 sold 3 million in the states when all was said and done so GT5 will likely match that in a year.

US consumers know GT5 is heavily flawed. SONY in on the 4th or 5th update for GT5.

There are so many things wrong & omitted from GT5, this news isn't surprising at all.

It seems the majority of the sales are from Europe

MGRogue20172627d ago (Edited 2627d ago )

I helped that number grow by one.. and so did you. :)
