Heavenly Sword: Why It's The Greatest Rental Title of All Time - GamerNode Review

The bottom line is this: if you want the best-looking game on the PS3, arguably the best-acted game of all time, or a game that reminds you why playing games are fun in the first place, get Heavenly Sword. GamerNode can't (and won't) try to convince you to purchase it, because despite how much they love it, they really can't justify spending 60 bucks on a game with little replay value and such a short length. They will, however, ask that you at least rent this. Heavenly Sword is the best game available on the PS3, and easily the greatest rental title of all time.

Just finished the game. Its an excellent game. Loved every minute of it only thing that killed it was the length. Simply put the game is too short. Other than that its an excellent game.

jay36065d ago

Yeah, i was watching this guy from Youtube play it live on Stickam and he finished it in one session. We were all surprised. It looked like a kickass game though, despite the lag.

HowarthsNJ6065d ago

This is one of those games where you replay your favorite chapters just to perfect your combat skills and because it's great fun to do so when you're finally good at it.

I hate to hear reviewers suggesting a rental over purchase because it's good for gaming to support the developers.

Rent if you're unsure, but make every effort to buy it if you can - whatever platform.

Support your system(s).

Gamespot-equals-EGM6065d ago (Edited 6065d ago )

So many websites are saying Heavenly Sword makes a great rental.

Sony must love that. /sarcasm

Ri0tSquad6065d ago

There adding some online to this game in the future if it does well these guys are idiots.

radzy6065d ago

SOME DEMO'S ON THE 360 ARE LONGER THAN HEAVENLY SWORD. MAYBE SOME XBOXLIVE ARCADE GAMES TOO.

But I see what hes saying.

Ill probably play it again, but letting my friends play it when they come over is where Ill get my replay value.

fenderputty6065d ago

is a huge area of replay value for me.

Bits-N-Kibbles6065d ago

I've probably played or watched God of War being play about 5 or 6 times now... and God of War 2 at least 2 times... al thanks to my cheap ass friends and me being a push over...

MikeGdaGod6065d ago

i can't wait for the holidays when family and friends come over.

visually, Heavenly Sword squats and sh!ts on any title on any other console.

jinn6065d ago

the contributor of this article is no doubt on drugs.

LSDARBY6065d ago

Im definatley gonna buy it, cus i know i will want to watch the cutscenes again. Is there an option to rewatch them without playing the game again, like resistance?

Rythrine6065d ago

After you play the game for the first time and see the video cutscenes, it will be included in the "unlocked videos" category.

duarteq6065d ago

First this - "if you want the best-looking game on the PS3, arguably the best-acted game of all time, or a game that reminds you why playing games are fun in the first place, get Heavenly Sword."
Then, this - "GamerNode can't (and won't) try to convince you to purchase it, because despite how much they love it, they really can't justify spending 60 bucks on a game with little replay value and such a short length."

By that way of thinking all the good games, in every format are always rent. Example - Bioshock, really nice game, goog graphics, finish once, well, never played again, good rent. Final Fantasy VII, well i will not talk about it, everybody knows it's a good game, finish once, humm, another rent ? really are this guys payed to say stuff like that ? i which i were the manager of Game or GameStage, would be really happy with the rents...

s8anicslayer6065d ago

how about gears of war?that was really short too!should that have been a rental too?these people gotta stop hating on sony and hoping they fail!this game hs is a great buy, highly reccomend

marionz6065d ago

gears was still longer then this game and obviously GOW has replay value, with cog tags to go back for and all the online modes

if a game like heavenly sword only offers a story mode that can be beaten in five hours and nothing to go back for then whats the point of buying it? its only going to collect dust after the first run through

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro46d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7246d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_46d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga46d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2346d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200046d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin46d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole46d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix46d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198946d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel198946d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.

LoveSpuds549d ago (Edited 549d ago )

I recall enjoying it well enough at the time, but it wasn't a patch on God of War 3 which came out around the same time I think.

I own it and fired it up on my PS3 about 6 months ago and time hadn't been particularly kind to it although it still very much nailed the atmosphere and it is a cool as he'll setting and universe.

Inverno549d ago

Dante's Inferno needs the GOW treatment. No cut camera, with a real hellish depiction of the 9 circles and a story as dark and as serious would be amazing.

Yui_Suzumiya549d ago

Still pretty amazing there was a PSP version that was actually pretty good. I remember playing it 10 years ago. I had the PS3 version when it first came out and loved it.

Hellcat2020549d ago

Ahh the memories of playing Heavenly Sword
Such a amazing experience

LoveSpuds549d ago

Yup, I remember being blown away with Heavenly Sword. I remember holding out hope that they would go back and add trophy support as a incentive to go back and replay the game, but I don't think they ever did?

Yui_Suzumiya549d ago

I couldn't beat the final boss though! Spent several days trying but eventually gave up, lol. Still enjoyed it though.

refocusedman549d ago

heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.

YoungKingDoran549d ago

I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
