Return To Form - An Open Letter to Square Enix

In recent years the western market has embraced RPGs by western developers, such as Bioware and Bethesda, and MMOs, such as WoW or... well pretty much WoW, to the degree that the genre has been effectively redefined over the past decade. It seems that JRPGs are compromising the endearing elements that make them JRPGs in an effort to compete with the new role playing landscape.

I agree 100%, although I do like how you didn't have to press a button to talk to NPCs that didn't have anything important to say in FFXIII along with the whole game being voiced. Dragon Quest IX is a great example of how JRPGs should be, and it would be great to have a game like that on the home consoles because the linking to other players would be easier and used a lot more than it is in the West. That's the kind of online multiplayer RPGs should have, if they're going to have multiplayer at all.
