Refurbished Xbox 360 dies within 5 minutes

Everyone has commended Microsoft for extending their warranty service to the unfortunate individuals that have experienced the dreaded Red Ring of Death. While everyone admits that they should have fixed the problem a long time ago, it's a step in the right direction. However, what happens when they send your Xbox 360 back to you and you fire it up for the first time? Kotaku Editor Brian Ashcraft got to experience it first hand.

Poor xbots and they will still die defending this crap system.

DJ3413d ago

and games and the system ended up falling apart, I'd be defensive too. Well...until the replacement broke down. Then I'd be like WTF.

I don't understand why this is being treated like a big deal... THOUSANDS of 180's crash everyday...just because Microsoft has hidden it doesn't mean it's not happening. I've had 2 crash on me and be "refurbished" and this one still freezes if left on 4-5 hours... That's why I'm getting a PS3..

ok, then ask yourself why this would be news? everyone knows there has been hardware issues with the Xbox 360. it is old, and it is lame, we come here mainly to find out if theres news about new games, new features, not a story which was prob made ages ago about an Xbox 360 which has broken.

It's news because even after all this time Microsoft has yet to fix this problem and it only seems to be getting worse.

Bathyj3413d ago

Well if its still happening why shouldn't it still be reported?

Xbots would like us to stop talking about it so everyone will think the problem has been solved but all thats happened is a band aid was put on it in the form of a 3 warranty.

If you ask me buying a refurbished unit (ei, a unit thats already died and been resurrected) you're mad. My brother in law manages a shop and had one guy bring back 4 of them. All just to get the machine the cost of a game cheaper.

@gta

MS wants just that to happen. They want people to stop posting things about it. They want to push it under the carpet and forget about it. By keeping it in the spotlight, it forces them to address the issue, and maybe ACTUALLY fix it one day, not just extend the warranty. The squeeky wheel gets the oil, or so they say...

"It's news because even after all this time Microsoft has yet to fix this problem and it only seems to be getting worse."

Totally fcuking inaccurate. The problem has been fixed. And the problem has gotten better. You Sony Defense Force members can wish it wasnt the case, but its true.

Every Xbox 360 with a HDMI port has Motherboard Version 1.1. This Motherboard has fewer components, smaller components, new layout, and a new CPU/GPU mounting methodology.

Get it? When they announced the Warranty Extension -- MS said that they had resolved the issues. The HDMI enabled motherboards are the PRODUCT of that resolution.

Get over it. You're wrong. But, dont take my word for it. Look at this:
http://www.mainstageclothin...

And read this:
http://www.microsoft.com/Pr...

Specifically this:
"Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers."

Get it? Your months late to the situation. Stop with the FUD. The problem isnt as bad as you SDF types wish it was.

The fact remains that they are still RRODing. I should have waited for 65nm chipsets. Quite a few RRODs are caused by heat warping the motherboard, causing the pins of the GPU to pull out of the board. Who makes a motherboard that warps under "normal" operating temperatures?

My Xbox 360 is out for repair and due in the next 2 weeks! I hope this doesn't happen to me just before Halo 3. But if it does oh well I suppose I will have to play Warhawk which is the best damn game ive played in ages.
