Possibility of Torchlight on the PS3 Looking Grim

The Diable-style dungeon crawler Torchlight took the PC world by storm back in 2009, and both fans and hopefuls rejoiced when news of console ports surfaced. Though the Xbox 360 port is set to release soon, little has been said about the PS3 version, and there’s a good reason why. (PC, PS3, Torchlight, Xbox 360)

Not a big deal. Paid $2 for it on my pc a long time ago. Its pretty good but why is this such a downer for some? Get it cheap for the pc. You can use a junk pc to play it.
thebudgetgamer  +   1329d ago
i'll check the demo when it comes to the 360. my pc won't play anything.
STONEY4  +   1329d ago
Just try the PC demo on Steam. The requirements are insanely low. Like, Intel integrated graphics low.
Bigpappy  +   1330d ago
No, you guys are wrong about this game. It is a very fun game to play. I think M$ might have had something to do with delaying the PS3 version. I got it on steams last year for $5 and play it all the through. I don't even game on PC anymore, but this was too sweet to pass up after reading all the hype. I will now pay at least $15 to play it on Xbox. But a PS3 version would have sold well also.
Parapraxis  +   1329d ago
Game looks great to me, I would get it on PS3 if I could, but I'll be happy with the 360 version.
cgoodno  +   1329d ago
Very sad news. With MS as publisher, it's unlikely we'll ever see it. Would be one of the best additions to PSN, IMHO.

man if they only added multiplayer via live...that'd be something...
cgoodno  +   1329d ago
Looks like they're saving that for the sequel.
Kamikaze135  +   1329d ago
It's a great game, but it pales in comparison to the 2nd game. That's probably why people bash this game. The first game only took place in the same dungeon and contained no multiplayer. Plus with a XLBA release, it'll probably delay development on the 2nd game.
NiteX  +   1329d ago
Actually it was many different dungeons. It just keeps going down in levels. You're not missing much. The classes are rather generic and boring. I left it for Titan Quest a while ago.
Kamikaze135  +   1329d ago
What I mean is, the cave you enter in the beginning of the game is the same cave you're in at the end of the game. You're practically in the same dungeon and all floors are randomly generated. So there really isn't much variety.

I was going to buy it off of Steam, but I think I'll wait till it drops to $10 during a sale or something.

Why is it everytime a game isn't coming to ps3 the fanbase claim they don't want it anyway because it isn't great? Super Meat Boy, Torchlight, Gothic 4...its all the same comments

It's called fanboyism, don't act like you've no idea why this happens.
Parapraxis  +   1329d ago
Believe it or not ChristianGamer, it goes the other way too.
DeathMetal1474  +   1329d ago
No it doesn't
at least not on this site
cgoodno  +   1329d ago
I'd ask you to not generalize the PS3 fanbase into a single group, plese.

Because they are genuinely not interested? I have a gaming PC, even prefered it to my PS3 in 2010 (because of Civilization 5, Minecraft, ME2), could download Super Meat Boy, Torchlight or Gothic right now from steam for next to nothing but I won't because they simply don't appeal to me.
divideby0  +   1329d ago
maybe some have other games to play... LBP2, KZ and DCU in the first couple of months of this year...
how many games can someone play.....

or you can look at it that my 360 will have a game to play besides Kinect.. problem is with the list above, I dont have time for it

and as pointed out its also on the PC

Game looks great, that's a shame. I guess I'll play the PS3 2011 lineup instead :(
Lirky  +   1329d ago
Ps3 doesnt need it, it can survive without it. Based on independent games sony develope with their in-house studios.
Aloren  +   1329d ago
PS3 can survive without torchlight ? well, duh, it could even survive easily without uncharted, lbp, god of war and GT, there are just so many games nowadays... good ones too.
hot111  +   1329d ago
MS is the publisher, forget about it.
blackburn5  +   1329d ago
Did you ever think that maybe we just don't like them. Gothic was never that great a series and I still, after playing it, can't see what the big deal is with SMB. Seriously what's the big deal? But what is Torchlight exactly. Is it like Diablo? What exactly sets it apart from othef dungeon crawlers? Don't mind to much though. Any delay just gives me more room to breath between exclusives and multiplats
ktchong  +   1329d ago
Dungeon crawler, like RTS, should be played on the PC, not console.
Persistantthug  +   1329d ago
The Round Peg....In the interest of potentially saving you a bubble....Explain yourself please.
Why SHOULD a "dungeon crawler" type RTS game only be relegated to PC and not console?

I'd like to hear your response please.

What's wrong with a controller? Controlers have been working fine since Atari 2600, have they not?
Why have controllers been fine since 1977 and now, suddenly in 2011, they somehow aren't?

These type of hack and slash overhead games have been done on controller and consoles for decades now.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance, X-Men Legends, Sacred 2, Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel, Hunter:the Reckoning, Justice League Heroes, Baldur's gate Dark Alliance, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2, Champions of Norath, and Chamions of Norath 2 all worked just fine with a controller. This is a stupid objection.

This article has no more information than the one saying it was being released on XBOX, the quote about publishing was used there too.
OllieBoy  +   1329d ago
I don't recall any PS3 owners asking for this.
cgoodno  +   1329d ago
I'm a PS3 owner and I asked for this. Other typically PC-only games I'm asking for include:
- The Witcher 2
- Diablo 3
- Dungeons
- SWKotoR MMO

I own both consoles and hopefully next month I'll build a new sandy bridge gaming PC. Owning all 3 is really the way to go. Each platform has positives and negatives and this way I can play all the games.
lightningsax  +   1329d ago
Gotta agree here. Torchlight is a perfect short game for the PC - it's a point-and-click deal that runs on low-end systems pretty easily. It's a nice counterpoint to the bigger time-sinks on the PC like WoW, the Civ series, DoTA, TF2, etc. I'd much rather play graphics-intensive and precision D-pad demanding games on a PS3, and I'd much rather play third-person shooters and multiplayer-type stuff on an Xbox360. I have a Wii for Sin and Punishment 2 alone. Worth every cent. I don't prefer the type of games that do well on 360 most of the time, but hey, they're still nice.

Just like owning a Dreamcast in the PS2 era, it doesn't matter which one's the most successful - what matters is whether or not you have fun. Get em' all if you can.

any fan of champions of norrath would absolutely fall in love with this game. now that this game is making its way to console, MS decides to go ahead and publish the darn thing. One more reason why i hate ms and their exclusivity bullshit...i say great games intended for mass appeal should be brought openly to garner mass acceptance and that means bringing to all possible consoles. and that's what im sure the devs of torchlight intended when deciding whether or not to bring it to consoles, otherwise why even consider bringing in the first place right? yet they go on to say (the torchlight devs) that they are actually pleased that they didn't have to create a PSN version considering all the work involved in making the XBLA version. If that's so then their condescending their own judgment making to bring a pc game to the console in the first place. In all actuality I think the devs had the mindset going into the console version of publishing it themeselves (why else would they even have considered it in the first place of making a console version) but was "bought out" so to speak by MS probably early on somewhere in this process.
Point being i guess im trying to convey is how much I hate MS. yes Im a fanboy and im sure sony does this too. I don't really care. Simply put MS took away a game I WANTED to play on PS3 and probably will never be able to on console and i absolutely hate them for it. i hope their stock falls under and their CEO's plans crashes and burns somewhere over the Atlantic one day. That is all for this rant, good bye.
Pillage05  +   1329d ago
It's an ok game but it needs co-op pretty badly.
palaeomerus  +   1329d ago
Maybe PSN can bring Dark Mist to the states to make up for it then! Or maybe they can publish a new Snowblind game set in Norrath.
shadowknight203  +   1329d ago
I swear if they make anything Norrath on ps3 i will have multiple orgasm in tribute to the announcement.
Hellas13  +   1329d ago
I got it on steam 2,5 euro great game but no multiplayer (like Diablo)
