UGO: We had such high hopes for 2010, but unfortunately not everything can work out better than expected. Here are the 11 things that we thought would be great but ended up not so much.
(Culture)
Its a good way to get attention though. All sites want hits.
@mezzo- Ummm..a lot of critics bashed Heavy Rain and GT5. UGO certaintly isn't the only one. But since when do what critics say mean anything? OPM gave Yakuza 3 a 6/10...and I played it until 6AM last night. I've been playing for 20 hours and I'm not even at 9% completion yet. The game is awesome.
Try not to take what critics say so personally. In the end, different people have different preferences.
Getting angry at a critic for disliking a game you like is like a girl getting into an argument with her friend over which member of the Jonas Brothers is cuter....its POINTLESS.
"GT5 was by far the most disappointing game of 2010."
That depends on the person. I played GT5 for the first time at Bestbuy a couple days ago...and I thought that besides the excellent graphics, the gameplay was frustrating as hell..I played for 2 minutes before calling it quits.
A couple minutes later, I saw a couple in their early 30s play the game and have a lot of fun with it....to the point that they bought a GT5 bundle.
Point of the story: One man's trash is another man's treasure.
how is it frustrating? for the main part GT5 gives you all those assists to help you out making the game very user friendly. The only thing i would say is frustrating about GT5 is getting gold on all the licenses now doing that is annoying.
Getting gold is pretty damn annoying I agree, ya don't have to do a corner good, you have to do it perfect which is fu**ed. Any game can be annoying if you do bad at it though deadreckoning. Maybe it ain't your type of game though. Which is fine.
I'm sick of seeing articles that say "Most disappointing games of 2010" and then seeing a picture of GT5 next to it. GT5 is an awesome game, just didn't live up to some people expectations, not surprising after its been in development for so long.
Yeah, GT5 was no disappointment to me. GT5 will be frustrating until you understand the realistic physics and driving. The car literally reacts to EVERY single bump on the road. I love it. So rewarding once you get past the learning curve.
There's only a few things that are a let down, when it comes to gt5, but its still a solid game. I have been playing it, this is the first i one i have ever purchased and it seems to me that many (critics) were a bit too harsh on the game. Overall great game.
I can't help but roll my eyes and laugh out loud at these lame articles regarding GT5. Seriously, am I the only one that finds it odd with the people that are "supposedly" disappointed with GT5? It sure as hell isn't PS3 and GT fans that are disappointed with it and I will leave it at that.
GT5, IMHO, is the best racer I have played this generation, period.
Try as you may tabloid blogosphere gaming media because no matter what lame you bring to the table it wont cause a dent from here on out regarding Sony and their onslaught of upcoming PS3 exclusives.
As much of a GT fan I am, I will admit, it did let me down when I first started it, but as time progressed, I started to appreciate the game more and more.
The graphics was the most disappointing thing to me. Everything else about the game is perfect.
I wasn't expecting standard cars to look great, but I didn't think they would be so bad. DON'T GET ME WRONG. Some standard cars look great, like the bugatti veyron, but there's some that are ps2 quality. The premium cars are just unbelievably amazing.
I got used to the cars in GT5. As I played through the game, I saw less and less of the terrible looking standard cars, and more premium cars and the good looking standard cars. BUT what really ruined it where the fact that some of the tracks(very few of the many) looked disgusting, with ps2 level characters.
But once I start a race with a premium car in the nurburgring, I forget everything, because this is when my mouth drops. The sense of speed, the perfect shadows, the beautiful interior, the magnificent looks and perfect gameplay. It makes me feel like I'm in heaven. I'm drooling just thinking about, and now I really want to play it. Just because of this post, I feel like going and playing it right now. BYE
People who say GT5 was the most disappointing game of 2010 either...
1) didn't play very many games, or 2) are trolling
Nearly every person I've known or seen online who has ACTUALLY PLAYED GT5 has enjoyed it to some degree. Even those who found some issues with it wouldn't label it as one of the most disappointing games of 2010. It's dishonest to spread such false information, "journalists". Then again, this isn't the first time a PS3 title has had a major smear campaign aimed against it.
To call Gran Turismo 5 one of the biggest disappointments of 2010, you'd have to be a complete idiot. I've been quite vocal about the issues I've had with GT5 on here because it's not flawless, but to call it a biggest dissapointment of 2010 is extreme. You'd have to be an utter fool to say that because for the few (mostly irrelevant) things it does poorly, the vast majority of the game does what it sets out to do extremely well. It sets out to be a realistic driving simulator, and overall I've been very impressed by it.
bunch of noobs playing GT5, that is all. Brake before you turn to prevent understeering, watch the throttle to prevent oversteering. Realize that your buttons are pressure sensitive so its not just GAS ON/OFF, BRAKE ON/OFF. This isn't your little brother's Mario Kart, and it says so right on the box, "The Real Driving Simulator." GT5 deserves a 9.8/10 (always room for improvement).
I gotta agree with others. I just don't understand all the GT5 hate we've been seeing. Site after site gave it perfect scores and had no problem justifying these scores by the simple fact that no racing game offers the experience and replayability of GT5, mixed with often stunning visuals - and also in 3D to boot? What racer has ever come close to this? Yeah, it's not perfect, but what game is? Yeah, the menus were a bit rough, and a lot of sites didn't get that the damage scaled as you got further along - but to list this as one of the top disappointments is simply trolling. It's a racing game, and an excellent one. It's almost like people got GT5 and said "Oh. This is a racing game, with thousands of cars and a couple of hundred hours of play time. I thought it was going to turn water into wine."
I think people's expectations were simply too high for a mere videogame to satisfy. And then I see sites falling all over themselves for Halo Reach. I've always loved Halo, but this game just felt like a kick in the nuts. The story was uninteresting, the characters were forgettable, the ending was WTF, and then when I went to play it with my buddies I was like "Where the hell are all the maps?" Seriously...there were only 3-4 maps the right size to jump into with just a few of your buds. The rest you end up wandering endlessly wondering where the hell anyone is and then the others are template levels for making new ones. You want a disappointing game - Reach was by far the worst of any of the main Halo games. There's a disappointment. After I finished the main campaign I couldn't trade it in fast enough.
Exactly, the ones disappointed by GT5 are the ones that haven't bought it. Everyone that has bought it seems to play it incessantly. Maybe they are disappointed that they can't play it.
Yeah, The patches are a testament to how committed Kaz is to continue to improve the game and fix any bugs that may be present. He's already given us more options on the GT Life menu. There's no telling how much free content we'll be updated with in the coming months. Hell, he might patch weather into the rest of the tracks. And I'm pretty sure he IS going to upgrade a few of the standard cars to premium for free. DLC should be in the works too, even though we've been given so much from the get-go anyway.
Why can't someone be disappointed with the game without being called a XBOX fanboy? Being an owner of both systems that bought GT5 Prologue and GT5 I was expecting more. The graphics are inconsistent and presentation is poor. These "patches" are things that should have been in the game on release. This is the first GT game I haven't had much fun playing.
I just don't see much improvement from GT5 Prologue to GT5. It's like they said oh crap we need more content and shoved upscaled GT4 assets in. Just a lot of bad decisions throughout a game with such a long development time.
I've attached a pic of my games with your name just so people can't refute I own them.
GT5 was a disappointment only because people hyped it to high heaven.
Alan Wake was far from a disappointment as well. No one honestly expected it to sell millions but the game received good reviews.
Iron Man 2 was the usual sequel and still made more money than the first. It's only a disappointment if you expect too much.
The Last Airbender movie was definitely a huge disappointment, but it was expected considering who was directing the movie and trying to shove a story spanning three full seasons into three 2-hour movies.
UGO, they are really bashing the best PS3 Exclusives of 2010, first Heavy Rain ( http://n4g.com/news/667885/... ) now a game that is nothing less than Perfect (AKA GT5).
***GT5 was by far the most disappointing game of 2010.***
Really? So you've played it and found it disappointing? Or did you just latch onto what others have said about it and consider it a disappointment without trying it out for yourself?
Would like to know what other big name racing console sim lets you mod a track at all, much less does what GT5 does right better?
Can't help but feel that much of this negativity comes from the noise Turn 10 started over Forza 3 while no one has taken a good hard look at what it does wrong, or at all, against GT5.
Get the fuck out casual gamers,.. with this shit,.. If you cannot drive you should not touch GT,.. that is a given,.. Unless you want to learn how to drive,..
Black Ops for me; seriously how the f*ck did Treyarch manage to screw up such an easy job - all they had to do was copy MW2 but take out the problems (like boosting, annoying perks etc) but then they put in crap graphics, sound fx and terrible maps, not to mention the problems on PS3.
I'm no Cod hater; i actually enjoy MW2 despite its problems and i've gone back to playing that and will be trading in BO: anyone tell me where I can get a good price in the UK ?
If its a disappintment to release a game that has recevied 8s, 9s and 10s from most credible gaming sites and to sell 5 million copies. Then my goal in life is to become a very disappointing game developer.
Playing sales? No. This simply indicates that even mediocre and underwhelming scores would not faze GT sales AT ALL. I cannot say the same for any other game.
godmars has said it best....no other game in it's genre has been nitpicked this much.but ps3 fans KNEW it would get nitpicked by the haters and media controlled(by advertising)outlets.
tons of games have long development cycles.but gta, alan wake, halo and the rest get free passes.
but the funny thing is that no matter how much bashing sony and ps3 gets,it is the best system and the MOST TALKED ABOUT system on the market.
no one is talking about mass effect on 360,splinter cell, alan wake, fable 3,hal reach, etc.no one is talking about mario, barely talking about zelda.and metroid has been forgotten.
but just look at N$G.....yes...$.......killzone 3,LBP2,motorstorm3,resistance3 ,tw isted metal.....the most talked about games are on ps3.and continue to be talked about.sites like UGO are using ps3 because sony,ps3 and their games are the leader no matter how people want to see it.the only thing talked about for 360 is kinect hacks not even on 360 or used in games.
but GT5 will not be topped this generation by anything else unless polyphony makes a sequel now that the game engine is done.the only thing DISAPPOINTING this gen has been JOURNALISM.....
Alan Wake was rightfully shredded by critics, like Gran Turismo it is low 80's on Metacritic after a massive development schedule and hype. Alan Wake bombed in sales while Gran Turismo is at 4 million +.
Anyway, why do people say that critics bash Sony and the PS3? Total hogwash, look at Little Big Planet and Uncharted 2, countless game of the year awards and are rated higher than any XBox 360 exclusive. Critics bash disappointing games not the PS3 or Sony. Plenty of big XBox 360 games got ripped to pieces this year (Fable 3, Alan Wake, Kinect Sports, and Splinter Cell Conviction).
It annoys me how people act as though professional game critics have some sort of vendetta against the PS3 because 1 hugely hyped game gets lukewarm reviews...
To the comment above mine Bubble. I don't why Ps3 games get nitpicked like crazy and games like FF13 and Gears of War get 9.5's like candy XD it's funny.
"the only thing DISAPPOINTING this gen has been JOURNALISM..... "
Truer words have never been spoken. People that have actually played GT5 for a significant time know what a great game it is. It's just a pity the childish media can't give it the recognition it deserves. I just don't understand why the bias media hates the PS3 so much.
Some people are fuckin retarded. GT5 was no where near disappointing. You want disappointing? Add Black Ops. With 7000 people and growing adding their name to the petition to get a refund, I will consider that to be disappointing. I feel bad for all the Christmas noobs who got this game on the PS3 today. A little advice....Take it back! and Merry Christmas
wonder why they chose a pix of GT vs AlanWake..especially since AW scored worse than GT stupid fanboy author, grasphing for attention...lmao should have just put another pix up... like LOST the biggest let down that I could imagine
GT5 has weather, a track creator, night races, rally events, top gear track events, karting events, realistic physics, the best graphics for console racing sims, youtube uploading...I could go on. The most feature rich racing sim on the market, and yet, it's getting ripped a new one by the media...why? Someone please tell me. Because when I go onto PSN, I see loads of people playing it. And apart from a couple of pro-Xbox guys I know, they all love the game to bits. You know somethings wrong when the media hate on a game, yet the consumers love it. Says a lot imo.
^ yep.. and thats why I wait for a bud to buy a game, unless its one I really want, and see his opinions, vs the sites which are either run by 12 year olds or bigger sites just looking for advertisement revenue and wont rock the boat with a honest review. My bud on Live or PSN tells me what games are hot... I have so many playing GT regardless of the reviews
LOL, wow man thanks for reading back the Sony marketing PR for us. Let's tackle each one.
Weather - nice feature, no argument there Track Creator - very limited and time that could have been spent elsewhere to sure up the game Night Races - good stuff Rally Events - limited but fun Top Gear Track - done kind of half assed Karting Events - again limited but fun Realistic Physics - Questionable given some of the YouTube videos out there Best Graphics - At times yes but it's so inconsistent. YouTube Uploading - currently not in the game
While I'm all for features I like them to be done right. Some have been and some have been done half assed. They really needed to put more time into the core game and then maybe added some of these features as free DLC after they got them worked out.
what the fuck? gt5 is a good game. it's my 1st gt game i ever bought and got into and it's good all around. i don't listen to other people's opinions of games they may be biased to. xbros can fuck off.
I just got off playing GT5 using Logitech driving force GT. (it's my brother's) Damn, its awesome. Love GT5! Best game of the year and if i can, I will be playing it throughout all of next year.
I havent read the article but seeing that big picture of GT5. The article mus have listed it as one of the disappointment. Not surprised by this because whoever is disappointed comes from a class of: arcade fanatics, terrible grammar writers, underage kids, hardcore FPS players, xbox fanatics, non professional racing drivers.
I dont know why ppl though Alan wake was a dissapointment..... it was a very very good game imo one of the best on the xbox.... but You can only play once like heavy. In my honest opinion I think I know why it was a dissapointment... .because thre were not many exclusive xbox games when it was released.
IMO i enjoyed Alanwake MUCH more than the overyhyped ahem halo reach.
Talk about just wanting to get hits. What is this garbage?
I've played all the GTs with GT1 being my favorite as it was the first, untill I played GT5! GT5 is my new favorite and best in series to date. Never in my history of gaming has a game kept me up from 9pm till 5:30am the next day in my first sitting. GT5 is the game for any car fanatic out there. The physics are the best by miles on any console (and many reviews agree with this but seem to think it should lose points for minor things and for things they like to make up in their heads!). The graphics look amazing!!! (ignore the minor glitches like in any other game and what you have here is car heaven on earth!) I also spend a lot of time taking photos of my car for my wallpapers. I also still have to do comparisons of a few real life cars like the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (which I own in real life) vs the BMW M3 vs the Lexus ISF. Nurburgring...here I come! :-)
If you love cars, love driving them, thought of a lot of what if scenarios or comparisons that you just won't get the time (or money) to do in real life, then get this game (PS3 console required). It's as simple as that! The GT driving force steering wheel or it's equivalent is a big day/night (no pun intended) improvement to the game. Having a HDTV is a big plus too but that goes without saying.

Most of gamers are playing it, daily since the laucnh, and are not disapointed at all (patchs are goods too).
The patches are a testament to how committed Kaz is to continue to improve the game and fix any bugs that may be present. He's already given us more options on the GT Life menu. BLAH BLAH BLAH, DAMAGE CONTROL. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Most who are playing GT5 deep down are thinking 'I thought this would be better', but they'll never admit to it.
Can you give me next weeks lotto numbers since you're obviously all powerful and can look into people's minds?
I just don't see much improvement from GT5 Prologue to GT5. It's like they said oh crap we need more content and shoved upscaled GT4 assets in. Just a lot of bad decisions throughout a game with such a long development time.

Cry me a river.
@deadreckoning666: Nice edit, I agree with the point you're trying to make but alas it will fall on deaf ears.
@Godmars290: Does putting lipstick and perfume on a pig make it more attractive?
The saying "Jack of all trades master of none" sums GT5 up pretty accurately, more is not always better....
But as of lately i haven't seen how many copies it has sold if someone can post it i will give them a bubble.
