600 million hours of playtime logged since November 9 launch
And.....GO!! Here come a whole ton of COD hate comments. But really, if you don't like it, just don't buy it. Is it really necessary to come out from under all those bridges and hate on this game over and over? Like I said: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT. No complaining or trolling necessary. Let those that want to play it be able to view articles about the COD series in peace without 50 irate rants. Battlefield BC2, for example, is a Fantastic game and a great alternative. Go play that instead of wasting all this time complaining about Black Ops and COD for the thirtieth time in the last 60 days.
Thank you. I'm not personally a fan of COD - I'm more of an RPG gamer - but I don't see any need for the community to continuously bash this game. Let each play what they will without harassment. Nobody is forced to buy and play a game they don't want to...so why hate on this series endlessly?
What you are both forgetting is that many COD fans bought this game expecting the same smooth, crisp, and accurate online experience as MW2 ... and Black Ops is a mess online. Period. I bought Black Ops just because I figured it would be the same structured game with new/different perks. What I got was an even shorter single player campaign and an online experience that feels more like a Beta than the 4th iteration of the most popular online console game this gen. Activision/Treyarch should be held fully accountable for their gimped game and the amount of money this franchise generates and their lack of effort to fix the issues demonstrates their greed even more. Don't defend them.
@Jeseth While I agree some are valid complainers most seem to have never played the game (because they are too smart to do that) and then complain/bash. Some have every right to complain and get frustrated with their online experiences. But most who don't have the game see that and then latch onto that negativity because they simply love to hate the game. If it was any other game it would be blatant griefing. I can't get into one COD-related thread without having someone diss the lack of skill or talk about how the game sucks. I like the game. With that said 1 Billion is ridiculous. They don't deserve it when you consider how much they ride off of the name and not the quality. And there in lies my problem. Activision embodies what gamers hate: doing the least work necessary while making the most profits possible. Since this isn't about the game and more about the sales I think it's fair game for people to complain about this news.
Nothing new, COD is much more addictive than any other FPS out the because of the arcade feel to it which i luv :) I dont have the game again.. My little cuzing broke my CD :( so im gonna buy it again for christmas. PSN ID is jon_abobo add me letsstart WAR :)
I'm not going to b*tch, I've been an Activision shareholder ever since before the MW2 launch. I love this kind of news.
CoD and Warcraft, the two most lucrative IPs this generation. @below: Lucrative, as in profitable. Uncharted and GeoW aren't nearly as profitable as either of Activision's titles.
U forgot to add uncharted and gears of war
@ Jeseth It's not about defending Treyarch or Activision. It's about trolling. How dose ceaselessly ranting on sites unaffiliated with either of those companies make anything better? Sounds to me like such trolling simply creates argumentation, anger, and makes fans of the series - again, i'm NOT a fan of COD, I'm an RPG gamer - uncomfortable.
LOL @ your pre-emptive damage control. I dont think anyone hates call of duty just because its call of duty. Pretty much everyone agrees COD4 was an amazing game but I thought a series was supposed to improve not get progressively worse with each iteration. ... And yeah we know COD sells.
who gives a s**t, it's the Internet, you don't have to be polite or anything. Fighting and stuff is much more fun Cod is crap
Only people hating on CoD are PS3 fanboys
ACTIVISION-Business 101 sell rehashed COD games yearly.
Back, BACK YOU BEAST! Get back under your bridge! @Pogibaldy - You sir, are on to something; if you don't like Activision or Call of Duty: Black Ops, don't buy it. There is no reason to create a bunch of negative comments about the series for months to come, cluttering forums and making it difficult for those that feel different. How many months (years?) have people been ranting and raving about this? If someone doesn't like it, do they really need to troll?
People keep buying it, so there is no incentive for them to change the formula. Also, since consumers vote with their wallet, and people keep buying it, then it could be argued that Activision is giving it's customers exactly what they want.
"In all of entertainment, only Call of Duty and Avatar have ever achieved the billion dollar revenue milestone this quickly." A fitting remark, Mr.Kotick. Hmm, so roughly, this would be around 17 million copies? I guess that means the gaming economy is healthy. Hurray.
I could say that there are far more deserving games and franchises, but not much can stop the force that is Call of Duty and Activision.
Will this mean better servers and suppport for next years iteration then? Nope? Didnt think so... :)
IMO CoD series has hit the high water mark, if they don't fix BO, i can't imagine them selling more with the next installment. CoD is now labeled as a broken franchise, unwilling to fix the many hindrances the plague their games.
While I like playing COD games.. I honestly dont think it would be as fun or popular without killstreaks.. That simple feature alone is what makes COD.. I know I go into a game trying to reach those killstreaks to unleash hell.. Im all for other FPS to copy that and hopefully improve and maybe come up with some better ones..
IMHO the killstreaks is what ruined the game. COD:MW had the perfect balance where the killstreaks were not too overpowered and allowed the gamer to get a majority of the kills. MW2 completely destroyed that formula and the game became about the killstreaks rather than about gamer vs gamer who is the better shot. Now I can't speak for BLOPS because I didn't purchase it but I'm assuming there are too many of em and the game is too focused on them for my taste. Gimme a shooter that revolves around the player getting the kills not the cpu....now this is all just my opinion.I do love the gun combat in COD as I was fully addicted to Modern Warfare like most others were.
Actually I think Black Ops did it right.. In MW your Kill streak kills helped you towards your next kill streak.. So it was easy to get to that helicopter.. In Black Ops.. Only Your kills go towards killstreaks.. Not your kill streak kills.. SO you earn each kill streak.. But as far as shooters go.. Nothing will ever beat Socom for me..
And Bobby goes smiling to the bank.
All that moolah. O_O
I don't like COD but this is a juggernaut. Anyone saying 'Yeah, we will sell better than COD' is delusional IMO.
And they say the economy is slow? puhlease
So much for the boycott. Damn casual gamers.
They do not deserve it that is for sure. I really want a game to come out to knock them off their horse and make them actually make a good game... Bungie could have done it but they signed with them too so makes it kind of pointless.
what Respawn is cooking. Could be huge.
No idea but I hope it is really good. Maybe since they are no longer under Activion they will have more freedom on the games they make.
That's amazing numbers. Wow
This is actually morally wrong.
...avatar did 1-bil in 19days considering that movie tickets dont cost $60 or having a speacial seat for $150.
Sells $1 billion and of that it deserves about $0.01.
Black Ops only sells because Call of Duty is on the cover, I hate how badly this series has gone down hill because of some money hungry CEO knows that the masses will eat it up. Seriously the people that buy this game and DLC actually do more harm than good to this series :(
Congrats to Activision for supporting Treyarch after the loss of Infinity Ward! Congrats to Treyarch for bringing out a game and proving that they can do aswell as Modern Warefare 2! I dont personally like Black Ops I was on the hype before it launched got the game and was hugely disappointed, but there are millions who like the game so enjoy your purchase.
It wasn't a buggy pile of trash and felt more like COD4.
Great game. I was really skeptical after the mess that MW2 was but I'm glad that I bought it. It's the best one since COD 4
People are so gullible nowadays................
Activision must feel really blessed that their average customer is no more intelligent than a sheep. Now, all activision fans, repeat after Bobby: Sheep says baaaa
Guess this means Call of Duty won't die as long they keep selling and selling million of units every Nov. Jeeze now for some more COD next year again. Getting very boring with COD.
And the yet the tightwad morons can't even muster dedicated servers.
I won't be suprised when next November comes around with a new CoD realease and they make the same profit... Still can't believe people actually want to spend 70 bucks a year on this crap.
