January has traditionally been seen as a slow time in the world of video games. Companies try their hardest to get their best products out in time for the big Western buying period at the end of the year and, as a result, there’s not often a lot left for the post mince-pie lull. In Japan, the big buying season is traditionally in March so even when the industry focussed more towards the East it was an awkward time of year to be a gamer.
Perhaps things are changing though because January 2010 saw a slowdown in the frequency of releases but there were still some real quality titles on store shelves. The stand out names are perhaps Darksiders and Bayonetta but the show was undoubtedly stolen at the end of the month by Mass Effect 2.
