BeefJack: "The game was dark and sombre, taking place in dimly-lit underground corridors, ruined cities or lonely forest glades. No wisecracking sidekicks: you spent most of your playing time alone. The script was written entirely in lofty, pseudo-medieval English. And it was neither real-time nor turn-based, with a battle system that frankly made no logical sense. Imagine if something like this came out today. It’d be crucified. Too serious! Too complicated! Too brown! And yet – no lie – I still consider Vagrant Story to be one of the greatest games ever made."
