How does the Playstation 3 work?

The setup of the Cell processor is like having a team of processors all working together on one chip to handle the large computational workload needed to run next-generation video games. In order to understand how the Cell processor works, it helps to look at each of the major parts that comprise this processor.

The "Processing Element" of the Cell is a 3.2-GHz PowerPC core equipped with 512 KB of L2 cache. The PowerPC core is a type of microprocessor similar to the one you would find running the Apple G5. It's a powerful processor on its own and could easily run a computer by itself; but in the Cell, the PowerPC core is not the sole processor. Instead, it's more of a "managing processor." It delegates processing to the eight other processors on the chip, the Synergistic Processing Elements.

Zeus powers it with lightning while a Chuck Norris inside it processes the awesomeness in each Blu-Ray disc so Jesus can show everything on your TV screen.
And that's how the Ps3 works, any questions?

deadreckoning6664876d ago

Yes..where does God and Chris Jericho fit in that equation?

NewMonday4876d ago (Edited 4876d ago )

I think the RAM is the only thing holding it back, and the more developers optimize code the better performance they will get.

MrAwesome4876d ago

Chris Jericho makes sure the consoles keeps running at a strong, steady rate and God simply watches to make sure you have an awesome time by simply casting an awesomeness spell on your Ps3 and a feel happy spell on you.

Godmars2904876d ago

The One True Norris punching awesomeness into Cell chips sounds more likely than cloning millions of times over and installing said clone into each PS3, don't you think?

Here it is a cool pic of the PS3

RonXD4876d ago

I have no clue what the hell is being said in the article but it sounds epic XD.

JohnnyHalo4876d ago

It's not really epic actually. The technology is more than 5 years old. Hell my laptop has TWO processors more powerful than it is. Never the less, it still is pretty good at producing great games with minimal framerate drops and such, ie, Uncharted 2.

MaximusPrime4876d ago

You seriously haven't got a clue.

lol just kidding man. But yeah the PS3s hardware is quite old. But the amazing thing is that it is still able to produce some incredible looking games

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis3h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

anast2h ago

It's worth a play through today.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

jznrpg22h ago

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv7222h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast23h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood23h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK20h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

anast2h ago

The game went downhill at Fallout 3's release. This is when they started to cut corners.

gold_drake19h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.

anast2h ago

Usually, you have good comments but this isn't one of them. It just rides the mob. We can do both condemn the actions and not let them use it for other things.

I can say I received a death threat and everyone needs to shut up. People are not honest and will use horrible things to their advantage.

Armaggedon14h ago

Not all games “look” current.

anast2h ago

Their games always look like the gen before it.
