Mortal Kombat Reboot Gets April Release, Playable Kratos, Retailer Exclusives

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced the next game in the long-running Mortal Kombat series will hit stores in April 2011, with an appearance from God of War's Kratos on the PS3 version.

"When we were approached with the opportunity, it was a no-brainer," said God of War III Director Stig Asmussen, in a statement. "Fans of both games have been asking for this to happen. Kratos belongs in Mortal Kombat, and I'm thrilled about the potential."

Warner Bros. also revealed certain classic in-game fatalities and character skins will be exclusive to versions pre-ordered from specific retailers.

damn....April, why so long? We are in for a wait folks.

VenomProject2919d ago

The wait doesn't hurt so bad with games like Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2 and Killzone 3 releasing first.

Mass Effect 2 release is for stubborn fan boys. Real gamers have already played it.

@Assclown20: you mean all PS3 gamers are not real gamers? WTF with your logic?

Lightsaber2919d ago

All ps3 owners own 20,000 dollar gaming rig pc and already played dont you know anything. No one is buyin it on the ps3

DigitalRaptor2919d ago

Yeah... yeah real gamers have played every single game! /s

Exclusive fatalities that can't be unlocked in the game? That's lame.

I hope Kratos will be underpowered in the game. No hate for Kratos, but if he's overpowered then it will certainly mess up the balance for any future tournament potential for MK.

No, I'm buying it on the PS3 because I love EA/BioWare, plus, I never bought it on the PC - I hate gaming on my PC.

You can take those assumptions of your's and dry those tears.

You rather have a buggy game so that it can be release before it's ready?

scar202919d ago

4 Months i can wait that long and plus we have many other good games coming out so time will fly by even faster.

Dirk Benedict2919d ago

time to clear my shelf for many sequels ending in 3.

the Mortal Kombat reboot will also have a place in my collection.

Bathyj2919d ago

Why is it a reboot?

Everythings reboot now.

Isnt it just MK 10 or whatever its up to?

MASTER_RAIDEN2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

yeah, i too find it really stupid that theyre referring to the game as a reboot (im also a little insulted? is that normal? lol).
but i think the gaming community is now in a habit of referring to new games from old franchises as reboots because so many old IPs are making LEGIT reappearances these days, via full fledged reboots (tomb raider, dmc, nfs).

this mortal kombat is really more of a retelling of the story from the beginning. nothing else from the older mks has much to do with MK9.

ON TOPIC: i know this is N4G, but you guys are doing a mighty fine job riding some serious Kratos dick. i love the guy but hes going to get his own head on a platter. DEAL WIT IT.
also, i thought it was gonna be a damn goose chase trying to get a hold of every piece of content for the game, but i would hope having the tournament edition hooks you up with THAT would be pretty darn cool.

Bathyj - I think 4 games for one IP is enough, after 4 games how much longer can you drag the story. I love MGS but even Kojima his self admitted that at one point he could not keep up with the story. Halo also has to do a rebOot - only thing is that MS is not going to say that out loud and give us a new enamy and world in Halo 4 THE RETURN OF MASTER CHIEF.

Mortal Kombat might not be that story driven but I think they are trying to get away from Lau Kang being the face of MK and focus more on the rivalry of Sub-Zero and Scorpion who I think are two of the most intresting charaters in MK.

Plus how much times can you hold a tournement to determin the fate of the real world?

A reboot is a good idea and it will make the game stray away form the bad test that DC vs MK left on true KM fans.
