Top 10 selling software titles of November NPD have been revealed. Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Gran Turismo 5, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and more make the list.
wow....GT5 in 8th spot? I thought for sure it would have sold better than Fable 3 atleast.
Yeah I'm kinda surprised at that. But good to see Fable 3 is doing great same with Donkey Kong returns. Fallout New Vegas seemed to drop fast. @ziro yes it did that is why I'm surprised it outsold GT5. @neobasch it actually had a whole week (7 days) not just 5 days. Plus Black Friday happened during that week and most games sell the most in the first few days so that really isn't an excuse anymore.
Surprised? O_O Um... GT5 had only five days to sell before the end of November. That sounds insanely good to me. EDIT: @L4DRocks My bad, seven. Regardless, a week does not equal a month. While most don't get a full month to sell, games like Black-Ops release early (November 9th) to pick up word of mouth, which helps it sell during Black Friday. GT5 didn't have that. Neither did Donkey Kong. Those are the only two surprises this month in my honest opinion.
GT5 got crushed, people just dont care like they used to glad to see Hot Pursuit beat it in the USA, the better game won
"glad to see Hot Pursuit beat it in the USA, the better game won " Glad to see GT5 outsold it worldwide, the better game won...
7 Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (PS3, 360, Wii, PC) ELECTRONIC ARTS 8 **Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) SONY Just thought I'd point out the discrepancy most people seem to be unaware of. NPD now charts multiple platforms as one individual entry. GT5 has only been out for a week. Need for Speed? Most of the month, and available for every possible system. Granted, these aren't Halo or Gears numbers, but it's America. What did you expect? : \ Also, the ** means NPD did not count any hardware bundles. Perspective people.
Also didn't Fable 3 come out in Oct too. Edit: Well I guess that explains why Sony hasn't released numbers for GT5 then :s
Yes, GT5 got outsold by a month old game game, of a relatively new franchise compared to GT, and even lower reviews.
Where did you get that 4 million approximation? I'm genuinely curious. Pray tell
Didn't GT5 release Nov. 24? For it to place 8th for the month, with only 6 days of sales, is a solid performance.
Do you guys realize when GT5 released?
Still, it had a week. And being one of the most anticipated games of the year, that number is disappointing. However, with the delay and the lower than expected reviews, it's not too surprising. @sleepy3: I'm a huge GT fan but I can't argue with you on that. I remember people saying that this game will do 10 million easy. At this rate that seems unlikely. It seems to me that the long wait between 4 and 5 has left a tole on the market. People who would have bought GT in the past now have gone out and got Black Ops instead(not a good decision). The landscape of racing videogames seems to have shifted with out GT around. I realize the Prologue can out but that was for the serious fans not the mainstream. This really does make me sad because it's easily one of the best games I've played this year and by far the deepest. Hopefully, sales pick up and the game can burn for a long time. It's the best racing games I've ever played.
donkey kong country was released on the 21st and its higher up the list? Didn't see that one coming....a donkey kong game outselling Gran turismo. To be put in perspective, Halo 3 sold 5 mill in a week to a lower installed base, and i think we can safely say GT is a bigger franchise, or at least that was true up to GT4, whether it still is i don't know. I don't think anyone would have foreseen a halo game selling more than a gran turismo game EVER. But such is this gen. FPS comes first....everything else comes after. But the game doesn't have to sell a billion copies though. Once it sells over 3 million we can be confident of a strong online community so when you get the need to race at 4 in the morning, you will find people on there. On a another note, how in world is wii fit still selling?
@kenkaniff They don't play games, they play NPD. Once a month, that 7 days of availability can be magically equal to 30. Man, 360's should have an NPD application alongside LastFM and Facebook already the way the software starved rally behind it every month. A few months from now when the other half will have moved on to KZ3 and Resistance 3 etc, they'll still be fawning at Black Ops sales from 6 months earlier, lol. Oh well. Being that Greenberg's 2011 PR lineup is pretty much just NPD and timed DLC from old 2010 games, just let 'em have their soothers. ;)
Pay attention to how they combine the SKU's across all platforms for this chart. So for any game to be in the top representing only 1 platform it must be huge sales. Just Dance 2 beat all platforms of Madden for example. Go Donkey Kong! Retro deserved that! :)
Tick tock tick tock now waiting for numbers
pretty sure gt5 is 8th coz it was only out at end of nov , not sure though i know it isnt huge in u.s like europe and japan
It said 25% of the video games sold in November were Black Ops lol, wow
That's America only. GT sold much better in Europe.
Bomb Turismo! Outsold by Just Dance 2, Fable III, Donkey Kong and Assassins Creed (360 SKU).
Does "rest of the world" exist to you?
Return of the King indeed!
Oh...and didn't GT5 release in LATE November? Bomb Toursimo....what manner of xnoob are you??
and Fable was released a MONTH AGO!! Stop making excuses haha This is low for a Gran Turismo game! I know the truth is too hard to handle! Low reviews and lower than expected sales. Sorry!
Oh good, your last bubble for this topic!
N4PS3G.... Yeah I wonder why? Oh it was only released on nov. 24th. 6 days in the US where the ps3 is last & gt5 still manages to get the #8 spot. Total ownage lol.
It's Gran Turismo! This games open with huge front loaded sales! Stop making excuses, This is low for Gran Turismo.
How am I making excuses? 360 fanboys always use the 25 days excuse for kinect over move sales, and now all of sudden u wanna act like 6 day sales in a the US where the ps3 is last in sales is ownage? Thats like me bringing up halo reach japan sales & trying to use that as ownage when we all know the 360 is last in japan.
You would still expect a major franchise like that to be in the top 5 after a week. Nevertheless, I expect it sold like crazy in Europe.
8.4 million by Black Ops is just ridiculous, even across multiple platforms.
it’s the top-selling accessory item in terms of dollar sales on a year-to-date basis.” ITS $150 ...lthat is what we call spin or making something seem different so you get over BUT I CAUGHT U
http://www.bloomberg.com/ne... - PS3: 530k.
GT5 didn't do well. Not surprised. Americans are pretty smart. They saw the fails that GT5 brought. They can see GT5 was pretty much GT4. So many people here like the ignore the fact that GT5 comes with 200 premium cars and 800 PS2 CARS!!!!!! Crash physics is a joke!!! Glitches Galore!!! Weak AI!!! Inconsistent graphics like blocky shadows!!! How many patches are already promised? Such a fail.
The patches are a good and bad thing. The Good: They know the problems and they are supporting it The Bad: With patches coming this close to release and more being planned so quickly, it shows that they knew the game had problems and it wasn't finished.
Every time you post it's a fail
*rubs eyes* GT5 got beat out by almost every game out there. 5 days was plenty to put it over the top. A hyped game usually sells the most in the firt week ( Halo, Gears, MGS4, CoD,) I am shocked.
Times a changin. this gen is about the FPS, not that i mind, i like them. Good to see how DKC did though. The wii now has a couple games that interest me but i still won't buy it till it hits $99.
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood 3. Just Dance 2 4. Madden NFL 11 5. Fable III 6. Donkey Kong Country Returns 7. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 8. Gran Turismo 5 9. NBA 2K11 10. Wii Fit Plus The moral of the story here is that publishers should really just forget about new IPs.
